Introduction
The objective of this project is to design and implement a
comprehensive database management system for a local
supermarket. The system aims to streamline various
aspects of the supermarket's operations, including
inventory management, sales tracking, employee
management, and customer data management. By
centralizing and automating these processes, the
supermarket aims to improve efficiency, reduce errors,
and enhance the overall customer experience.

The ERD provides a visual representation of the database
schema, including entities, attributes, and relationships. The
following entities and relationships have been identified:
Entities: Product, Supplier, Sale, Employee, Customer
Relationships:
Product-Supplier (One-to-Many)
Sale-Product (Many-to-Many)
Sale-Employee (Many-to-One)
Sale-Customer (Many-to-One)

Schema
Based on the ERD, the following database schema has been
proposed:
Employee (e.id,address,join_dt,f_name,m_name,l_name,salary)
Suppliers (s.id,s_name,s_phnno,s_address,s_dealer)
General store (gsid, name, city)
Sales (sale_id,dt_time)
Products (prod_id, prod_name, quantity) Schema
Customers (address, name, feedback)

Normalisation
E AB

Normalization organizes database data to reduce

redundancy and dependency.
In 1NF, ensure atomic values and unique attribute
names.
In 2NF, eliminate partial dependencies by moving non-
prime attributes to separate tables.
In 3NF, remove transitive dependencies by separating
attributes dependent on other non-prime attributes.
This process ensures data integrity and efficiency in
database management.
DATABASE ENGINEERING
Implementation
Plan
The implementation will follow the following
steps:
Design the database schema based on
the ERD.
Implement CRUD operations for each
entity.
Develop user interfaces for different
functionalities.
Test the system thoroughly to ensure
data integrity and functionality.
Deploy the system in the production
environment.

The supermarket management system will handle

inventory management, sales tracking, employee
scheduling, and customer data management
efficiently. It will track stock levels, record sales
transactions, manage employee schedules, and
maintain customer records, including purchase
history and loyalty program details.

Measures rity
To ensure data security and privacy, the
following security measures will be
implemented:
Access Control: Different levels of access
for employees based on their roles.
Data Encryption: Sensitive data such as
customer information will be encrypted
to prevent unauthorized access.
