SURFACE PREPARATION
NEW SURFACES
Ensure that surfaces are sound and free from dust, oil, grease, dirt, and debris. Surfaces
must be thoroughly dry – refer to surface preparation for actual % moisture content allowed,
measured with a Protimeter Survey Master in %WME mode
Cement Plaster (non-friable)
Ensure that plaster is dry, sound and non-friable. Fresh cement plaster should be allowed
one week drying for every 5mm thickness; and longer in cold or damp weather.
*Moisture content up to 12% - Prime with one full coat Dulux Trade Alkali Resistant
Primer or one full coat Dulux Trade Wallclad, thinned up to 10% with water to aid
absorption. When using Dulux Trade Wallclad as primer coat, overcoat primer coat with
a minimum of 2 undiluted coats of Dulux Trade Wallclad to complete the application.
*Moisture content up to 20% - Prime with one full coat Dulux Trade Alkali Resistant
Primer.
*Moisture content up to 50% - Apply 2 full coats Dulux Pre-Paint Dampshield. This
system ensures maximum resistance to bubbling and blistering from trapped moisture.
For very absorbent surfaces more than one coat of primer may be required to achieve
correct binding and sealing properties.
Concrete
Ensure that concrete is fully cured, sound and dry with a moisture content below 20%.
Remove any un-cured cement, grease, and mould-release agents by high-pressure water
blast, or wash with a strong solution of Dulux Pre-Paint Sugar Soap. Rinse off
thoroughly with clean water and allow drying.
Prime with one full coat Dulux Trade Alkali Resistant Primer.
Fibre Cement and Composite Boards
Spot-prime metal strips and nail heads with appropriate metal primer.
Prime with one full coat Dulux Trade Alkali Resistant Primer.
Wooden Surfaces
Sand smooth working in the direction of the grain. Ensure substrate is clean and dry with
a moisture content below 12%.
Prime with Dulux Wood Primer.
Alternatively, timber surfaces can be primed with Dulux Supergrip to give a complete
water-based system.
For best paint system performance follow Dulux Wood Primer with Dulux Universal
Undercoat before applying the selected finishing coat.

SURFACE PREPARATION
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES
Good Condition, not powdery
Remove any loose and flaking paint back to a sound substrate and firm edges by
scraping and sanding.
Clean surfaces with Dulux Pre-Paint Sugar Soap /water solution to remove all surface
contaminates and chalky residue, rinse with clean water to remove all traces of the Dulux
Pre-Paint Sugar Soap treatment and allow drying out. High pressure water jet cleaning
can be used as an alternative to the Dulux Pre-Paint Sugar Soap treatment.
Spot prime bare exposed fibre cement, composite boards and wooden surfaces with
appropriate primer as for new surfaces. On cement plaster and concrete prime with Dulux
Trade Alkali Resistant Primer up to 12% moisture, apply 2 coats Dulux Pre-Paint
Dampshield for moisture levels from 13% to 50%.
Enamel surfaces need to be sanded to a matt finish to aid adhesion before commencing
with the Dulux Pre-Paint Sugar Soap /water solution treatment. Apply a coat of Dulux
Trade Universal Undercoat.
Old Paint in Poor Condition
Completely remove all loose and flaking paint.
Remove oil, grease dirt or any other contaminants with Dulux Pre-Paint Sugar
Soap/water solution and allow drying.
Friable surfaces must be removed and repaired.
Mould instructions. To kill lichen and algae growth, scrub with one of the following
solutions: either 4:1 water/chlorine, or 4:1 water/sodium hypochlorite. Ensure that the
areas are completely saturated, and allow the solution to react for a minimum of 4 hours.
Rinse the complete wall surface thoroughly with clean water and allow drying.
Prime bare exposed fibre cement, composite boards and wooden surfaces with
appropriate primer as for new surfaces. On cement plaster and concrete prime with Dulux
Trade Alkali Resistant Primer up to 12% moisture, apply 2 coats Dulux Pre-Paint
Dampshield for moisture levels from 13% to 50%.
Chalked surfaces must be thoroughly brushed or prepared with high pressure water
cleaning. NOTE: While this product can be used for sealing exterior chalked or slightly
friable surfaces, it will not penetrate thick layers of powdery material. Dulux Trade
Bonding Liquid, which is un-pigmented, is preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Disclaimers - Continue For best colour and sheen consistency, it is advisable to use
containers of the same batch number, to mix different batches
together in a large container, or to finish in a corner before
starting a new container.
Tinting Protocol The tint base containers are only filled to levels which are
specific for each tint base to allow the calculated volume of
colourants to be added in order to achieve the volume
indicated on the container after tinting. Tint bases and
colourants are unfinished products which should not be used
on their own. Only once the Dulux Mix2Win Next Point-of-Sale
listed colour formulation colourant is added to the specified
tint base, will the finished product comply with the technical
features and related information as set out in this Technical
Data Sheet.
3 Step Tinting Instructions Expert Technique for Tinting Dulux Trade Wallclad
Fibre reinforced paint needs expert technique for professional
tinting services.
1. Open the lid of the required base paint and place paint pail
centrally on the tinting machine tinting platform and dispense
the Mix2Win Next colour formulation required colourants.
2. Lift the paint pail off the tinting machine tinting platform and
place on level surface. To aid absorption of dispensed
colourant into the base paint, fold a layer of base paint on top
of the dispersed colourant, using a clean spatula until
colourant is completely covered with base paint.
3. Close the lid tightly and place the paint pail centrally on the
automatic mixer shaking platform. Double Mixing time
required on all pack sizes. Check if tinted paint complies to
the Dulux Tinting Protocol before completing the tinting order
fulfilment.
