COIMBATORE BRIEF

AIRPORT NAME COIMBATORE

IATA CODE CJB
ICAO CODE VOCB
Apt Elev 1311 feet
ARP coordinates N11.01.36 E077.02.30

1. Company Routes:
(a) BOMCJB
(b) CJBBOM
(c) MAACJB
(d) CJBMAA
(e) HYDCJB
(f) CJBHYD

2. Airport Characteristics:

(a) VOCB is classified as a Cat-B Airfield because of two reasons:

i. High Terrain (NILGIRI HILLS) West of the airfield. The Terrain starts from 10nm
west and extends uptil 50nm with elevations going up to 8000feet. It is for this reason
that the MSA is 11,000’ in the NorthWest and 8700’ in the SouthWest. The
Transition Altitude is 11,000’ for the same reason.
ii. The Runway Length is 8497 feet. (being extended to NE by about 2000 ft)

(b) The Airport Watch Hours are:

0030(z)-1630(z) & 2100(z)-2400(z) on Sun, Wed & Fri.

0000(z)-1630(z) Mon, Thu & Sat.
0030(z)-1630(z) Tue.

An extension is available at a notice of 01hr before closure of normal watch hours. An

hourly rate of INR 4500/- shall be charged by AAI for this provision, even if departure
is delayed by 1 min beyond closure time.
In a few months the watch hrs are expected to be 24hrs.

(c) Met: The Met Dept is manned 24 hrs. Metar is updated hourly and is available over the
phone: 0422-2573267. It would not be necessary for Spicejet to collect any Met Folder
from Met as the turn around time is less than legal requirement for over 3hrs stop over. In
case a Met folder containing TAFs upper and lower wind charts is needed, prior
information of 8hrs is required.

(d) Visibility: Generally good around the year except for some fog during winter mornings
(Nov – Dec) when visibility can drop to 600 to 800mtrs.

(e) Surface Winds: Apr to Sep: SW Oct to Mar: NE

(f) Fire Fighting Facilities: Cat. 06 (Likely Cat 7 by Mar 2008).
