1. Introduction
The IP-20 series includes a variety of high capacity wireless backhaul products.
The IP-20 series provides backhaul solutions that can be used separately or
combined to form integrated backhaul networks or network segments.
The IP-20 and IP-50 series can be categorized by the following general node
configuration types:
• All-Indoor – An all-indoor node consists of an Indoor Unit (IDU) and one or
more Radio Frequency Units (RFUs), both of which are placed in an indoor
location. Each radio interface on the IDU is connected to an RFU via a Radio
Modem Card (RMC) or Radio Interface Card (RIC), and each RFU is connected
to an antenna via a flexible waveguide.
• Split-Mount – A split-mount node consists of an IDU and one or more RFUs,
where the RFUs are located outdoors and connected to their antennas using
either a direct mount or a remote mount via a flexible waveguide.
• All-Outdoor – An all-outdoor node consists of a unit in which the IDU and RFU
functionality is combined in a single unit. This unit is located outdoors and is
connected to one or more antennas, using either a direct mount or a remote
mount via a flexible waveguide.
This Release Notes document covers the IDU-based IP-20 and IP-50 products used
in split-mount nodes (including vertical all-indoor). These products are:
• IP-20N
• IP-20A
• IP-20F
• IP-20G
The all-outdoor IP-20 products (IP-20C, IP-20C-HP, IP-20S, IP-20E, and IP-20V) are
covered in a separate Release Notes document.
All-outdoor IP-50 products are covered in their own Release Notes document.

1.1.1 IP-20N
IP-20N is a highly modular and flexible cellular backhaul product that is optimized
for nodal deployment, with a small footprint, high density, and a high degree of
scalability and availability. An IP-20N product is based on a chassis, which is
provided in sizes that fit a single rack unit or two rack units, and which contains
five or ten slots for any mix of Ethernet, TDM, and radio cards.
With RIC-D, the new Radio Interface Card released in CeraOS 10.0, IP-20N can be
used with MultiCore RFU-D, MultiCore high-power RFU-D-HP, E-Band RFU-E.
With RMC-B and RMC-A, IP-20N can be used with RFU-C and 1500HP/RFU-HP.
IP-20N is suitable for both short-haul and long-haul applications. Long-haul
networks can easily be built by deploying nodes consisting of IP-20N IDUs using
RFU-D-HP, RFU-HP, or 1500HP high-power RFUs to achieve high capacity multi-
carrier networks.
IP-20N and IP-20A also support vertical all-indoor configurations with RFU-D-HP.
1.1.2 IP-20A
Designed uniquely for the North American market, IP-20A enables operators to
deploy high capacity, long-haul microwave systems in locations where rack space
and shelter real-estate are limited. IP-20A is based on the IP-20N hardware and
software package, customized to operate according to ANSI (FCC) standards.
With RIC-D, IP-20A can be used with MultiCore RFU-D, MultiCore high-power
RFU-D-HP and E-Band RFU-E.
With RMC-B and RMC-A, IP-20A can be used with RFU-C, RFU-A, and 1500HP/RFU-HP.
IP-20A is suitable for both short-haul and long-haul applications. Long-distance
networks can easily be built by deploying nodes consisting of IP-20A IDUs using
RFU-D-HP, RFU-A, RFU-HP, or 1500HP high-power RFUs to achieve high capacity
multi-carrier networks.
1.1.3 IP-20F
IP-20F is a split-mount edge node that delivers multi-Gbps radio capacity to the
transport network. It supports up to five radio carriers, and provides operators
with the simplicity that comes with deploying a very compact, fixed configuration
node, helping operators to meet their operational efficiency targets.
An IP-20F IDU contains:
• 4 x 1 GbE combo interfaces (GbE 1-4/SFP 1-4)
• 1 x 2.5/1 GbE combo interface (2.5GE6/SFP6)
• Two combo (RJ-45 or SFP) radio interfaces (RFU1 and RFU 2)
1.1.4 IP-20G
IP-20G is a compact, split-mount hauling solution for edge and ring nodes. Its fixed
configuration and low power consumption make it simple to install and maintain.
Hosting the common capabilities of the IP-20 platform, it provides a cost-
effective, reliable, and flexible hauling solution. IP-20G provides one or two radio
interfaces, six Ethernet interfaces, and optionally a 16-channel E1/T1 interface.
IP-20G can be used with RFU-C, 1500HP/RFU-HP, and RFU-A.

2. Software Package
The IP-20 IDU software is released as a zipped file.
CAUTION! Do not modify the zipped software package in any way! The
system will not be damaged, but the ZIP file will be unusable if changed.
The software components can be viewed via the Web-based Element
Management System (EMS) after software installation.
Different software packages are used for different product groups and cannot be
used interchangeably. Make sure to use the correct software package for the
product type you are using.
Each software package name includes the name of the product group, the
software release number, and the build number (indicated by the placeholder
“xyz” in the examples below). Note that IP-20N and IP-20A software packages are
distinguished by TCC type. Units with TCC-U must use the TCC-U software package
(IP20N_IP20A_TCCU_11.9Bxyz.zip). Units with other TCC types must use the
software package without TCCU in the file name (IP20N_IP20A_12.0Bxyz.zip).

Electrical SFPs • Support for electrical SFP modules with TCC-U is planned for future IP-20N Added in 11.9.5
release IP-20A
• SyncE is not supported with electrical SFP modules.
Ethernet • For units with TCC-U, traffic for which the Destination MAC Address is IP-20N
Services unknown and Multicast traffic, when routed to a Multipoint service, is IP-20A
sent to all service points including the ingress service point. Although
traffic sent back to the ingress point is dropped, it consumes port
resources and scheduling credits, affecting Scheduler operation for real
egress traffic towards that interface. This traffic is also counted in the
Egress CoS statistics for the ingress port.
This means that up to 50% of egress traffic towards the Ethernet port
receiving unknown and Multicast traffic might be dropped.
If there are only two service points in the service, this issue can be
avoided by configuring the service as a Point-to-Point service.
ETH-BN • ETH-BN cannot be used with HSB protection groups. All
• When used with IP-20G unit redundancy, the reported bandwidth may
be inaccurate when switchover is in effect.
• When used with IP-20N and IP-20A, ETH-BN is only supported with CSO,
not HSO.
• If CFM MEPs are being used, the MEL for ETH-BN must be set to a value
greater than the MEG level of the MEP. Otherwise, the BNM frames will
be dropped. – this is correct.
• If CFM MEPs are not being used, the MEL for ETH-BN must be set to a
value greater than 0. Otherwise, the BNM frames will be dropped.
• ETH-BN is not supported with RMC-A.
Ethernet • Link Aggregation (LAG, IEEE 802.3 clause 43) is only supported on GE IP-20F
Services interfaces or on two radio interfaces. Mixing radio and GE interfaces in IP-20G
the same LAG group is not supported.
3
Note that these restrictions do not apply to the special, limited LACP implementation used
with TCC and unit redundancy and configured on the logical interface level.
2.5 Gbps • When configured to 2.5 Gbps, the 2.5 Gbps RJ-45 interfaces on IP-20F IP-20N (TCC-U)
Interfaces and on the front panel of TCC-U can only be connected to third-party IP-20A (TCC-U)
devices that support a 7-byte Ethernet preamble, also known as Inter- IP-20F
Frame Gap (IFG) shrinkage.
External • When using cables with part numbers WA-0740-0 (regular) or cable WA- IP-20N
Alarms 0739-0 (protection), pins 6 and 8 are labeled incorrectly and should be IP-20A
reversed in order to conform to the pin-out of the DB9 dry contact IP-20F
external alarms interface on the device: IP-20G
Pin 6 - Relay #1, normally closed pin
Pin 8 - Relay #1, normally open pin
IP-20F • Radio interfaces RFU1 and RFU2 can be used with MultiCore RFU-D and IP-20F
RFU-D-HP, and single-core RFU-E. Radio interface RFU3 can only be used
with RFUE.
• RFU-E using 500 MHz channel bandwidth must use radio interfaces RFU1
or RFU2.
• Multi-Carrier ABC is supported between the two carriers of the same
MultiCore RFU, but not between different RFUs.
• For Ethernet interfaces 5 and 6, SyncE is supported on the RJ-45
interfaces (2.5GE5/2.5GE6), but not on the SFP interfaces (SFP5/SFP6).
• For Ethernet interfaces 5 and 6, Auto-Negotiation is supported on the RJ-
45 interfaces (2.5GE5/2.5GE6), but not on the SFP interfaces
(SFP5/SFP6).
• IP-20F does not support 1588-BC.
• IP-20F does not support AES-256 Radio Payload Encryption.
• IP-20F does not support unit redundancy.
RIC-D • 1588-TC and 1588-BC are only supported with RFU-D and RFU-D-HP IP-20N RFU2/2.5GE2
• TCC hot switchover (HSO) with RIC-D is not supported with RFU-S and IP-20A point added in
RFU-E 11.9.5

Layer 1 Link • Layer 1 Link Bonding cannot be used with LIC-STM1/OC3-RST cards. If IP-20N
Bonding TDM services are required, a TCC-based Multi-Carrier ABC group should IP-20A
be used.
• IEEE-1588v2 PTP Optimized Transport cannot be used with Layer 1 Link
Bonding groups unless the group includes one or more IP-50 and/or IP-
20 all-outdoor units. IEEE-1588v2 PTP support for Link Bonding groups
that include only RIC-Ds and/or RMC-Bs is planned for future release.
• For Link Bonding configurations that use IP-50 and/or IP-20 all-outdoor
units, 1588 PTP performance according to Class C requires a Protocols
connection of 10 Gbps. A 10 Gbps Protocols connection is optional for IP-
50E and IP-50C. It is not available for IP-20C and IP-20C-HP, which use a 1
Gbps Protocols connection. When the Protocols connection is 1 Gbps,
1588 PTP performance is according to Class A.
• Resiliency protocols (MSTP, G.8032) cannot be configured on members
of a Link Bonding group, but can be configured on the group.
• Service OAM (Y.1731) cannot be configured on members of a Link
Bonding group, but can be configured on the group.
• RMC-A cannot be used with Layer 1 Link Bonding groups.
• The maximum supported traffic ratio between members of a Link
Bonding group is 1:100. Exceeding this ratio (which is very rare) may lead
to degradation of the link.
• When the Protocols cable is connected to a LIC-X-E4-Elec or a LIC-X-E4-
Opt, the traffic disruption time in the case of HSO Switchover can be up
to 600mSec.
