New Features for Revit Structure 2022

Exercises 60: PDF Export

1. Start Revit 2022


2. Open Exercises_60.rvt
3. Go to File menu, click Export, then click PDF Export
4. A dialog box will come up
5. Under Export Range, click choose Selected views / sheets, then click the pencil at the right to select the desired
views and sheets.
6. At the top click Create button and call the new set, My_First, then select the THREE sheets only
7. Click Save, then click Select
8. Name the PDF file to be Sheets.PDF
9. Turn on the checkbox for Combining the views and sheets in single file
10. Set where you want to save the file
11. Set the Page Size to be ISO A0: 841 x 1189mm, and Zoom to 100%
12. Paper Placement = Center
13. Orientation = Landscape
14. Leave the rest to the default values
15. Under Export Setup, click Save As, and name the Setup A0
16. Click Export button, if there is any warning, read it and close it
17. Look at your PDF file
18. Save and close the file

Exercises 61: Shared View

1. Start Revit 2022


2. Open Exercises_61.rvt
3. Go to Collaborate tab, locate Share panel, click Shared Views
4. You will see a palette opened at the right of the screen
5. Click New Shared View button
6. Name it: T.O.F - Dimension, click Share button
7. You will see a notification window at the bottom right of the screen. Once it is ready, you will see two options,
View in the Browser, and Copy the Link. Click View in the Browser
8. Autodesk Viewer will open at your default browser
9. At the top left, you can see three buttons, Views, Properties, and Settings
10. At the bottom there are the following buttons: Home, Fit, Pan Zoom, Measure, and Markup
11. Use Zoom and Pan commands
12. Click Measure, then click Setup, and select Millimeters. Using Measure button, measure the distances between
gridlines. Using Measure button, calculate the area of the outside edge of the elevator walls
13. Using Markup, using yellow cloud, put a cloud around the elevator, then put an arrow, with the following text
“Please check Dimensions”
14. click Save at the top right part of the screen
15. Go back to Revit, and click Refresh button, and reply to the comments by saying “I will discuss it with you in the
next meeting”, click Post, then click Resolve
16. Close the browser, then Save and close the Revit file
Exercises 62: Load Autodesk Family Navigation

1. Start Revit 2022


2. Open Exercises_62.rvt
3. Go to Insert tab, locate Load from Library panel, click Load Autodesk Family button
4. At the top right of the dialog box, test Toggle View Type button to see how the icons can be displayed
5. At the top right of the dialog box, click Locale Settings, under Region, click United States - Metric
6. From the top left of the dialog box, from Category, select Structural Retaining Walls, select
M_RetainingWall_Par_Family, Click Load
7. Using Architecture tab, Component drop-list, click Place a Component, place M_RetainingWall_Par_Family at
the north of the floorplan, and extend it to cover the whole building. Create a section for the Retaining wall and
go to the view. You will see retaining wall tilted. Select it, click Edit Type, set Alpha = 0, and set H = 8000, click OK
8. Save and close the file

Exercises 63: Schedule Enhancement

1. Start Revit 2022


2. Open Exercises_63.rvt
3. From Project Browser locate Schedules/Quantities, and open Structural Column Schedule
4. At the top right, click Split & Place button
5. Once the dialog box appears, select S100, S101, S102 checkboxes. Leave Split Evenly, click Split & Place button
6. Insert the first part in S100 sheet
7. Go to S101, and S102 sheet and you will find the rest of the schedule in the same place
8. Adjust the width of the first column to fit the data in single line
9. Go to the Schedule view
10. Go to Filter, and create the following filter (previous to Revit 2022, you could not filter for Type or Family):

11. Look at the schedule in the three sheets. click hold and drag the small blue dot at the bottom up until you see
only Ground Floor columns only in S100, and First Floor columns in S101, and Second Floor columns in S102
12. Go to File / Export / Reports / Schedule, once the dialog box comes up, leave the name the same, and click Save.
Leave all default values as they are, and click OK
13. Go to the folder that you saved the CSV to, and double click it (you have to have Excel installed at your machine)
Excel will open up with all the schedule exported
14. Save and close the file
Exercises 64: Tag Enhancement & 3D Grids

1. Start Revit 2022


2. Open Exercises_64.rvt
3. Select the top left column tag, using Rotate command, rotate it by 60 o. While it is still selected and from
Properties change it to 315o
4. Go to Modify tab, locate Clipboard panel, click Match Type Properties button, select the tag you changed, then
select the other five tags
5. Using Tag by Category, make sure that Leader is turned on, tag the outside beam at the left, and nudge it
outside. The tag will show the size of the beam
6. Click the tag, and from context tab, click Edit Family button
7. Select 1i, nudge it down, to make room for the new label, and extend the horizontal limits as much as possible
8. Press [Esc] to unselect the label
9. Create a new label, Multi Leader Tag = Host Count (Suffix = X, add space before it), and add at the top of the
existing label
10. Load into Project, and Overwrite the existing version
11. Select the tag, then using the context tab, click Add / Remove Host, and add the other three beams
12. Select the lines of the tag, click Edit Type, and set the Leader Arrowhead = Arrow 30 Degree - Large
13. Start Multi Category command, make sure Leader is off, and tag beams and columns at the right portion of the
building
14. Add two Grid lines to the two inclined walls, and view them in 3D view
15. Save and close the file

Exercises 65: Wall Enhancement

1. Start Revit 2022


2. Open Exercises_65.rvt
3. You are at 3D view
4. Select the wall at the left, from Properties, change Cross-Section to Tapered.
5. Read the message carefully, and click Close
6. While the wall is still selected, click Edit Type, click Edit Structure, and make the Core layer Variable. Click OK
twice to end the command
7. From Properties, change Cross-Section to Tapered, you will see the following error message:
8. You need to Disable the Analytical Model in order for Revit to taper the selected wall. Click Disable the Analytical
Model. Now your wall is still structural wall, but without being able to be analyzed (check the Properties).
9. At the bottom of the wall, you can see three dots, one at the exterior part, and one at the interior part
10. From Properties, turn on the Override Type Properties
11. Try to move the exterior control dot to the right, and move the interior control point to the left
12. You can make the same exact effect by filling the values using the Properties window
13. Add a Reveal to the outside tapered wall
14. Create a section at the middle of the wall in the Level 1 floorplan view
15. From the section view, you can see the reveal is aligned with the tapered side. To make sure this assumption is
right, change the tapered angle for the outside to 0 o. You will notice that the reveal is still aligned
16. Go to Level 1 floorplan view
17. Start Visibility / Graphics command, locate Walls, then turn off Non-Core Layers
18. Click OK
19. Now you can see only the core layer of the walls (only applicable in 2D views)
20. Go to 3D view, you can see the right wall is slanted
21. Go to East elevation view
22. Select the wall, and click Edit Profile, and add closed shapes inside the closed shape
23. Click Finish Edit Mode (✓)
24. Go to 3D to check the slanted wall
25. Save and close the shape

Exercises 66: Move Rebar in a Set:

1. Start Revit 2022


2. Open Exercises_66.rvt
3. You are now in South elevation view
4. You can see a 2D pipe interfering with the rebar set
5. Click the rebar set, from Properties, you can see that the Quantity = 8
6. From context tab, click Edit Bars, and select the bar at the right of the pipe. Click the temporary dimension at the
right, and change it to 100mm. Do the same thing for the bar at the left of the pipe
7. Select the bar at the middle of the pipe, and remove it
8. Click Finish (✓) to end the command
9. Select the set, and check the quantity, you will find it to be 7
10. Start Visibility / Graphics command, select Filters, click Add button, then click Edit/New
11. Click New to add a new filter, and call it Edited Rebar Sets
12. From Categories, turn on Structural Rebar. Under Filter Rules, select Modified Rebar Set = Yes
13. Click OK twice, then Add the new filter, set the color to be Cyan. Click OK to exist the Visibility / Graphics
command
14. Now you can distinguish the modified bar sets by setting different color
15. Click the set again, then click Reset to get everything back to normal
16. Click Undo to undo the last command
17. Save and close the file

Exercises 67: Rebar Placement by Two Points:

1. Start Revit 2022


2. Open Exercises_67.rvt
3. You are now in Section 1 view
4. Zoom to the beam at the left
5. Select the beam, from context toolbar click Rebar. Make sure you are at 10M rebar size, from the right select
M_T2 shape, from context tab, click By Two Points, set the Rebar Set to Maximum Spacing with 350 create a
rebar to tie the inside 4 existing bars
6. Click the created rebar, from Properties, click Edit button of View Visibility States, turn on the two checkboxes
for 3D view
7. Go to 3D view, to view the addition you made
8. Go to Section 1 view, and do the same thing for right beam
9. Go to Level 2 floor plan view
10. Hide the vertical and horizontal lines, along with the Section
11. Select the slab, from context tab, click Rebar
12. Select 16M rebar size, and Horizontal, and Maximum Spacing with 350mm, then select M_00 as shape to be
used. Starting from the left top point of the opening, go to the left to align to the bottom left point of the
opening
13. Do the same thing, but, when you start the first point, press [ at the keyboard, to flip the rebar to be vertical
14. Start the command of Rebar again, using the same settings, hover over the inclined line, and press the Up arrow
at the keyboard to get the rebar parallel to the inclined line
15. Do the perpendicular rebar for the inclined line
16. Using Placement panel in the context tab, click Perpendicular Segment and add a group of rebar at the lower
part of the slab
17. Select any bar, click Edit Type, and check there are two bar diameter, Model Bar Diameter, and Bar Diameter,
you can now set the Model Bar Diameter to be larger than the Bar Diameter (which is the nominal diameter).
18. Save and close the file

Exercises 68: 3. Associate Connections with Profile Sizes:

1. Start Revit 2022


2. Open Exercises_68.rvt
3. You are at the 3D view
4. If needed orbit the model and zoom to see the base plate
5. Select the base plate, and click Edit Type, click Modify Ranges of Applicability Edit button
6. Create a new range and call it, Column Base Plate Ranges
7. Select Family and section name
8. Under Family, select UC-Universal Columns – Column
9. Then select all sections except 203 x 203 x 52
10. You can modify the Material, and the Member end forces if you want
11. Click OK twice
12. Go to Manage tab, locate Visual Programming panel, click Dynamo Player
13. Search for the word range, and select Base plate by ranges
14. Select the all members in the project, leave all things as default value, click Run Script
15. Look at the Summary report, and close the Dynamo Player
16. Zoom to the columns and check the base plates for all columns
17. Zoom to the existing Shear plate
18. Select it, and click Edit Type, click Modify Ranges of Applicability Edit button
19. Create a new range and call it, Shear Plate Ranges
20. For Element 1 (the highlighted beam is the large beam at the left)
21. Select Family and section name
22. Under Family, select UB-Universal Beams
23. Then select UB 305x165x40, and UB 356x171x51
24. For Element 2 (the highlighted beam is the small beam at the left)
25. Select Family and section name
26. Under Family, select UB-Universal Beams
27. Then select UB 254x102x28
28. Click OK twice
29. Go to Manage tab, locate Visual Programming panel, click Dynamo Player
30. Search for the word range, and select Beam to beam by ranges
31. Select the all members in the project, leave all things as default value, click Run Script
32. Look at the Summary report, and close the Dynamo Player
33. Save and close the file
