What Is An Intelligent
Transport System (ITS)?
It is an application system that used to solve
transportation issues such as air pollution, due to
growing in traffic density and population, also, the
increasing number of accidents. So, Intelligent
Transport System (ITS) is found to reduce risks,
high accidents rate, traffic, air pollution and on the
other hand providing more safety and reliability,
travel speeds, traffic management flow.
Why Do We Need Intelligent Transportation System?
1.Efficiency: by optimizing traffic flow.
2.Safety: by providing early warning systems and intelligent
vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. These systems help
to prevent accidents.
3.Environmental Sustainability: it support eco transportation
solutions such as electric vehicle charging infrastructure
4.Accessibility: can make transportation more accessible to all
users, including people with disabilities and those with limited
mobility.
Applications Of Intelligent Transportation System
1. Transit Signal Priority (TSP)
2. Vehicle Data Collection (VDC)
3. Electronic Toll Collection (ETC)
4. Highway Data Collection (HDC)
5. Traffic Management Systems (TMS)
6. Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP)
On What Does ITS Relies On?
It relies on wide range of technologies and functions which can conclude in:
1. Camera system
2. Artificial vision
3. Digital mapping
4. Communications
5. In-vehicle system
6. Geographical locations
7. Geographical information
Methodology:
Using a powerful methodological approach in ITS is important to have a
successful development, transportation efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
A general outline of this section in the system can be classified as:
1. Information collection: by gathering data including traffic flow, vehicle
speed, weather conditions, and infrastructure status.
2. Problem identified: identify transportation challenges that need to be
addressed, such as traffic, accidents, pollution, or inadequate public
transit. Then depending on the analysis, it is important to understand the
causes and the impacts.
Problem:
Lack of Traffic Management System:
Due to the absence of a traffic management
system, this mean there will be a large crowed
of vehicles so the system will easily fail in
control. In this case, the system will face
various challenges in traffic control such
higher travel time, safety hazards and pollution

SOLUTION:
Addressing the lack of a traffic management system within an intelligent transportation
system (ITS) requires advanced technologies to improve traffic control. So here are some
specific solutions:
1. Install advanced traffic monitoring sensors, such as video cameras, radar detectors,
and inductive loop sensors, to collect real-time data on traffic conditions.
2. Integrate connected vehicle technologies, such as vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and
vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication systems, to enable vehicles to exchange data
with traffic management infrastructure and each other.
3. Implement adaptive traffic signal control systems to improve traffic flow.
4. implement the GPS, GIS.
Required Technologies To Have Sustainable Environment
1. Data Analytics
2. Smart Parking Solutions
3. Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
4. Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) Communication
5. Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) Communication:
6. Electronic Road Tolling: to reduce waiting time, and fuel consumption.
Conclusion:
(ITS) plays a crucial role in supporting economic
development and enhancing the quality of life. So. this will
lead to increase the sustainability of transportation systems.
In addition, it represents a comprehensive and integrated
approach to transportation management, so with the evolving
continues technology and emerging new innovations, the
potential for ITS to address transportation challenges and
shape the future of mobility remains significant.
