Introduction
This document describes various aspects of the connection (interfacing) of an Agfa MG 3000, Drystar 2000 or
Drystar 3000 to an Aloka DMS via DICOM. Any reference to an Agfa device refer to the MG 3000, Drystar 2000
and Drystar 3000.
Camera Connection
• DICOM Print Management Service Class (PMS) Basic Color/Grayscale SOP via Ethernet; minimum software
release MeGa3P32.
Ordering Information
This section lists all parts and cables necessary for performing a complete installation of this interface (see
Figure 1).
Aloka
No special Aloka parts or cables are required. However, a standard 10 base T cable is required, for connection
to the network.

Installation
This section describes the installation procedure.
IMPORTANT:
During installation, both Aloka and Agfa service engineers must be present.
Installation Procedure
Aloka
The Aloka engineer must set up the required tables for the network connection with the Agfa device. Application
Entity Title, Station Name and IP Address must be set up in accordance with site requirements.
Agfa
The DICOM PMS software option can only be installed AFTER installation of the MeGa software. The MG3 Data
Input DICOM kit is delivered complete with a Drystar DICOM configurator for Windows 3.x and DOS. Ensure that
at least one DICOM PMS association is configured.
Functional Description
DICOM PMS Basic Gray Scale/Colour SOPs{PRIVATE }
The layout numbers currently defined in the pms.idf and pms_di.idf files are supported for print jobs received on
printer devices.
DICOM also supports the differentiation of different film types; the Drystar interprets this DICOM attribute as
follows:
On older Drystar units, the actual film type present is known by the local keypad configuration list (item number),
where the selection between clear and blue-based film could only be set by manual interaction. Opaque,
however, is sensed automatically. Newer Drystar models will support the use of coded magazines; this allows
automatic detection of all available film types.
Configuration
1. Set Application Entity Title and I/P Address:
Image Quality
The layout numbers currently defined in the pms.idf and pms_di.idf files are supported for print jobs received on
Drystar devices.
With the "Configuration Information" attribute, the perception LUT can be controlled via the DICOM protocol (see
Conformance Statement). If the user does not set this attribute in the protocol, the value of the utl_id parameter
in the PMS component is used by default.
Window Center and Window Width can be sent from the host to control the brightness and contrast on the films.
These parameters are similar to the point to point menu parameters, window and level. The defaults are fixed at
256 and 128 respectively.
For the Drystar, the color matching table can also be controlled by the "Configuration Information" attribute (see
Conformance Statement). If it is not set by the protocol, the value of the cs_table parameter in the PMS
component is used by default.
Selection of the correct color-matching table is based upon user taste preferences. This implies that all available
tables (.cub or .spl files in the d:\cst\tbl directory) should be expanded to .kan files, to make selection possible
(see the Drystar service manual).
1 Reboot the system and break the boot after ‘ AOS started’.
2 At the prompt, type ‘ sprtbl’. Press [Enter]. Press [Enter] again to continue.
This will give you "Color Separation Directory Overview". Enter the number (N) of the table you wish to
expand. Press [Enter]. This will create the N.kan file in the d:\cst\tbl directory on the Drystar 2000. This
process will take a few minutes.
3 Repeat the same procedure for any other table you want to expand.
4 Exit by typing ‘ 00’ and pressing [Enter].
5 Reboot the system.
Troubleshooting
Symptom
Ethernet communication problems.
Cause (1)
Incorrect inet_addr address.
Remedy (1)
Ensure that the ART0 1 inet_addr entry agrees with the host.
Cause (2)
Incorrect port number.
Page 8 of 9 Agfa Medical Division Release Document 000029, Print Date: 02/26/99, 1:04
Remedy (2)
Ensure that the host is sending to the port number (local_port) listed in the PMS table. Note that the port number
listed in the ART table is not used for DICOM input.
Cause (3)
Bad Application Entity Title.
Remedy (3)
Ensure that the ART0 1 apip_dest entry agrees EXACTLY with the one to which the host is trying to send. If the
problem persists, choose a new name that is seven characters long (A-Z) and all upper case. Install this new
name on both the host and the printer.
Symptom
When sending an image and requesting multiple copies, all are printed identically but when the same image is
sent twice different-looking prints result.
Cause
Use of different default color separation tables for each association.
Remedy
The system could be configured for multiple associations, as it is necessary to support both black-and-white and
color. Ensure that cs_table parameter value in different PMSXXX??s is the same.
Tested Releases
This section provides a history of all software releases relevant to this interface, together with points to watch out
for when using a particular release.
