Self Reflection - Progress Report Alejandro
The most important thing I learned was perseverance. This is because the students of the
association showed me their determination to keep the garden clean. I feel as if I learned from
them this value and transmitted it throughout the days I was present in the garden.
I wish I had spent more time in the cultivation of flowers. The students had told me about
planting my very own flower and watching it grow through the semester. This wasn’t possible
even though we did plant the flowers. The one I planted did not grow and was discarded.
One of the days I had to use a pickaxe to break the ground. I cleaned a very big area where the
students wanted to plant beans. I completed the task in about an hour, making me feel as if that
was the best work I did on all the hours I was present at the garden.
The most enjoyable part of the project was the mid conversations the students in the
association made. They would give fun and interesting facts about plants, how to cultivate
and best way to do it. Also they would sometimes make jokes to familiarize with everyone,
making the environment not one of repetitive work.
The least enjoyable part is the fact that the time given to do the hours was at a late time from
4:30 to 6:00 pm, and only on certain days. This wasn’t much of an issue for me, but I know
some of my partners had classes and other duties going on that didn’t allow them to be
present most of the time.
A good way to make the project more accessible for everyone is to make the hours to be
obtained not only at the university garden. Make the hours be green hours in general, where
people could go to activities from different places, get evidence and signatures from those
locations and use those hours for the project. Similarly, if the Atabey garden from the
university is necessary, then maybe out of the eight hours people need to do, make four of them
to be required for the Atabey garden, while the other four can be done either in the Atabey
garden or anywhere else.
