Horticulture sector development programme that aims to:

Improve the income opportunities and longer-term resilience of


smallholder farmers in Jordan with a complementary activities
and interventions to strengthen the broader horticulture sector

Target areas: Balqa, Irbid, Ajloun


Target groups: Smallholder farmers; SMEs; Coops / MBOs;
public & private stakeholders

JordanHortiFuture – 3 focus areas
1. Direct support to smallholder farmers to increase productivity
and quality of horticulture practices;
➢ GAP training programme SHFs; decision support tools; investment
grands; promotion & awareness NIA

2. Interventions at the horticulture value chain level to improve


performance and market linkages for smallholder farmers;
➢ Horticulture innovation days, innovation fund, innovation &
technology pilots; post-harvest; access to finance; strengthening
coops (JCC)

3. Institutional capacity strengthening to enhance the enabling


and supporting environment of the horticultural sector for SHFs
➢ NARC: Need-based institutional capacity strengthening; Innovative
applied research & knowledge transfer approaches; Timely &
affordable laboratory facilities & services for SHF
➢ JCC: institutional capacity strengthening to support, advise and
supervise the coop sector

Overall objective of this training

▪ Offer a systems thinking and systems dynamics


approach on agriculture

▪ Strengthen the knowledge, skills and practical


competencies of both NARC and MoA participants to
work with and apply food system concepts and tools
Specific course objectives
What will the course give you?

▪ Basic understanding of food system approaches and key


concepts
▪ Insights into food system assessment tools and how to
use them
▪ Insights and understanding of key elements for
(designing) food system transformation processes
▪ Experience on how to apply food system approaches in
practice through case based deep dives and groupwork
to identify future research and innovation priorities
