HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU'RE

A “REAL” WITCH?
One of the most common questions I receive is whether someone is a “real witch”.

You can choose witchcraft, just like it can choose you. If you are drawn to the craft,
whether it’s through interest or some type of clair or power, you're being called.

I’m going to share with you some of the signs I’ve experienced through my own
journey and discussions with other witches over the years, but it’s important to
note that witchcraft is a practice.

The signs are not a definitive checklist for being a witch (there is
no such thing).

Instead, they are guides for you to look within yourself and see
what resonates with you and help you to access some of your
personal power.

Sometimes when we were children our natural

inclinations shone through, but they dropped away as
we developed into adulthood. Some of the things on
this list may feel familiar even if you aren’t practicing
them now. That’s ok.

Trust whatever you feel drawn to.

TYPES OF WITCHES
Witchcraft is ever-evolving and the way people define themselves is very
individual. When defining different types of witches I see them as a guide, not a
rule. If you Google types of witches you'll find many categories because it's ever-
evolving. People also make the definitions themselves and so can you.

If you did the 'Am I a Witch?' quiz, you would have got the result that was closest
to your affinity. If you didn't do the quiz, read through each of the guides and see
what feels closest for you. In this collection of guides, I've included six popular
types plus some tips for all witches at the end.

MOON WATER SPELL

Take a clean glass bottle or jar and fill it with water. You
can include crystals in (please be careful with this step if
you intend to drink it) or around the jar. Clear quartz or
rose quartz are good beginner stones to use.

Place the jar on your window sill, or somewhere that will

catch the light of the full moon (don't worry if it's
overcast, it still works). You can put a lid on the jar if you
like. Leave it either for three nights of the full moon (the
night before, the night of, and the night after the full
moon) or the full moon night only. You can use the moon
water in your spell work, to wash your hair, create
potions, and much more.

SEASHELL RELEASE SPELL

This should be performed at the beach or a body of water.
Walk along the shore, looking for a shell that speaks to you (or
bring your own). Hold the shell in your hands, close your eyes,
and think about what you want to release. Visualize all aspects
of the emotion, event, or person. How does it make you feel?
What pictures can you conjure up? Feel the seashell warming
in your hands as you charge it with your intent.

When ready, blow on the seashell, acting as the final infusion

of your intent into this seashell. Place the shell near the water
where it can be washed out to sea. Stand on a shoreline for a
while, feeling the water pull the emotion, event, or person away
from you, swallowing it into its depths. Thank the ocean for
accepting your burden. Leave a small offering, such as a piece
of your hair as thanks.

PRACTICING
YOUR CRAFT

tips for incorporating

your craft into your life
9 SIMPLE WAYS TO PRACTICE
WITCHCRAFT DAILY
I love any witchcraft practice that is easy to incorporate and these are some of my
favorites. You'll also find more specific recommended practices that you can try for
your affinity in each guide.

1. Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg into your coffee or tea

Cinnamon is the spice associated with prosperity, luck, and protection and nutmeg
is the spice associated with health, luck, money, and love. To enchant your morning
beverage stir the spice three times clockwise while saying a mantra or statement
for the day. For example:

Today I will get a raise, so mote it be!

Today I will succeed, so mote it be!
Today I am open to love, so mote it be!

2. Cleanse your emotional body in the shower

Water is the element associated with emotion, so if you have been holding on to
any emotions that do not serve you anymore, let them go in the shower. When you
are in the shower, visualize the water removing any lower level energy from your
energy bodies and washing them down the drain.

3. Enchant your mirror
Words have power, and spells are words infused with intention. What spells are
you putting on yourself when you look in the mirror? Be intentional about the words
you’re saying to yourself when you look at yourself in the mirror. Say positive
mantras when you are doing your hair and makeup or brushing your teeth. You can
even laminate your favorite affirmations or mantras and place them on your mirror
in the bathroom.

4. Wear some color magic

If you have the hair for it, braid an associated colored ribbon in your hair or around
your wrist for the kind of magic you’re working.

Red – Passion Yellow – Inspiration Green – Healing

Pink – Love Blue – Calming Purple – Intuition
Orange – Courage

5. Daily draw
Draw a tarot or oracle card to communicate and receive messages from your
guides, higher self, and deities.

6. Create sigil witchcraft
Create a personal sigil and place sigils on the bottom of your water bottles, shoes,
lotions bottles. You can even sew them into your clothing or on a patch for your
clothing.

7. Use some crystal magic

Place a crystal down your bra or in your pocket, or wear crystal jewelry for added
support and protection. Here are some lower-priced stones that are good to use.
Tumbled is always best. You don’t want to get poked.

Rose quartz – love and friendship Smoky Quartz – protection

Citrine – energy and happiness Jade – peace and healing

8. Add magic to your cooking

Add herbs and spices to imbue your meals and libations with magic. Research well
as some herbs and spices are purely magical and shouldn't be ingested. Say a
blessing over your food and drinks before you consume them.

9. Shield your car

When you have parked your car, see a white light going over it to shield it and the
contents with protection while you are out. I also have a protection sigil in the
glovebox of my car for safe travel.

WITCHCRAFT ON A DIME
Being a witch doesn't have to be expensive. Traditionally many tools of
witchcraft were made from witches’ household materials. Now, you can
learn to make any tool via the magic of the internet. Here are my tips to
add some tools to your cauldron without spending an arm and a leg.

Book of Shadows: Grab a binder or notebook and decorate it yourself

instead of an expensive option off Esty or a bookstore. Or, go digital!

Altar: if you don't have a dedicated space for an altar or you are just
starting out, grab a wooden box (or even a shoebox) and decorate it with
images and objects.

Candles: get a blank prayer candle and add an image of the deity you are
working with. Your local dollar store will have a large selection of candles
but you can even work with birthday candles in a pinch!

Statues: make your own with air-dry craft clay. Draw or paint images of
the guides or deities you want to work with. It doesn’t have to be perfect,
and the more magic and love you put into it, the more powerful it will be.

Herbs, Spices, and Resins: Lots of common herbs and spices that are
used in magic can already be found in your kitchen! Check out local
resources to find which wild herbs grow in your area.

Crystals: Tumbled stones are a good place to start. You can use stones
that you find in nature. Research local mineral guides so you can take a
prospecting trip.

Other magical tools: Fallen tree branches can be made into wands and
besoms, for example. Sea glass, wood chips, or stones can be made into
runes. Paint your own personal oracle deck.
