Food
What we eat everyday can affect us in many ways. The
foods which we eat everyday are influenced by a lot of
factors. In this essay, we will see how various factors can
affect on what we eat every day.
1. Animal welfare (animal cruelty)
Animal cruelty is any act of violence or neglect against an
animal or group of animals. There are two main types of
animal cruelty this includes neglected animal cruelty and
abusive animal cruelty. Neglected animal cruelty is when
people don’t provide adequate care for animals, they’re in
charge. Abusive animal cruelty is the crime of inflicting
physical pain, suffering or death on an animal. Animal cruelty
has an impact on the food someone eats as a lot of people
who don’t support it completely stop eating meat because to
eat meat animals are killed and killing animals is considered
animal cruelty. People who are against animal cruelty also
stop eating meat as some animals which are eaten are
extinct such as the Chinese salamander and pangolin.
2. Personal health
Personal health is the practice of taking care of your own
physical and mental wellbeing by making conscious
decisions to be healthy. Food has a significant impact on a
person’s health. For example, consumers who suffer from an
allergy or intolerance will avoid purchasing foods that
contains the product they are allergic to. Someone who is
allergic to nuts will not eat food products that contain nuts,
while someone who has lactose intolerance will purchase
dairy free food products. Those who want a balanced diet
have to stop eating lots of fats and sugars and eat plenty of
fruits, vegetables and whole grains, they often go on a
balanced diet to reduce the risk of developing chronic
illnesses such as hearth disease, diabetes and cancer.
3. Environment
Environment refers to the living and non-living things that
surround us and impact our lives. The environment around
us can affect on what we eat in many different ways because
of the environment factors such as weather, time of day, or
advertisements also influence food choices. Restaurants and
markets often take advantage of this. For example, a grocery
store might put food at eye level to encourage shoppers to
purchase. Another example is, food shortages as in some
countries just don’t have enough food for all the citizens.
Citizens of some countries might also not eat some foods as
some countries might ban certain foods.
4. Religion
Religion is a complex and multifaceted term that refers to a
system of beliefs, values, practices and rituals that are often
centered around a supernatural power or powers. At its core
religion is a framework through which people try to
understand and connect with the divine or the transcendent,
and to make sense of their place in the world. Religion can
have a significant impact on a religious person in many
ways. Many religions have dietary laws or guidelines that
dictate what types of food or permissible or forbidden. For
example, Muslims will not eat meat such as beef or lamb
that hasn’t been slaughtered by the halal method, while
those of Jewish religion only eat foods that are Kasher.
Religion’s traditions and practices may also influence dietary
choices and habits more broadly. For example, fasting is a
common practice in many religions, and may involve
abstaining from food completely or limiting consumption to
certain times or types of food. Religious holidays and
celebrations may also abstain specific foods or meals.
5. Personal traits
Personal traits are individual characteristics or qualities that
define a person’s behavior, attitudes, and ways of these
traits include things like personality, temper ant, cognitive
styles and emotional tendencies, and can influence many
aspects of a person’s life, including on what they eat. Some
examples of the influences include individual factors such as
knowledge, personal taste preference, mood, hunger level,
health status, special diet requirements and personal
income. For example, emotional factors such as stress,
anxiety and depression can also affect the way someone
eats. People who experience high levels of stress may be
more likely to engage in emotional eating while those with
depression may experience changes in appetite and
preferences.
6. Food availability and cost
Food availability refers to the physical availability of food in a
particular area or community. Food cost refers to the price of
food and the financial resources required to purchase it.
Food availability and cost can impact on what someone eats
in a number of ways. For example, food access as limited
food availability can make it difficult for individuals to have
access to a variety of healthy, fresh foods, particularly in
areas with limited access to grocery or fresh food in markets.
Food cost is also an example as cost can be a major factor
determining the types of foods that individuals eat. When
healthy foods are more expensive than unhealthy foods,
people may eat less healthy foods to save money.ss
