What is computer network:

Computer network (resource sharing)
two or more computers that are connected with one
another for the purpose of communicating data
electronically

wh at is network types:
1-personal area network (PAN):
PANs can be used for communication among the personal
devices themselves by (USB ,Bluetooth)
2- local-area networks (LANs):
LANs connect computers and peripheral devices in a
limited physical area, such as a business office, laboratory,
or college campus, by means of links (wires, Ethernet cables
,Wi-Fi)
3-Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
MAN or Metropolitan area Network covers a larger area
than that of a LAN and smaller area as compared to WAN
4- wide-area networks (WANs):
connect computers and smaller networks to larger
networks over greater geographic areas

what is packet tracer
packet Tracer is a tool that allows you to simulate real networks. It
provides three main menus that allow you to:

 add devices and connect them via cables or wireless

 select, delete, inspect, label, and group components within your

network

 manage your network

how to Install packet tracer

Install packet tracer for windows
After downloading the Packet Tracer, open the folder that
contains the downloaded file and click the setup file

Packet Tracer has two different views
◦ Logical Workspace
The default view for Packet Tracer is Logical, which is
equivalent to creating a logical diagram for the
network
◦ Physical Workspace
Physical workspace shows the graphical physical dimension
of the logical network. It depicts the scale and placement in
how network devices such as routers, switches and hosts
would look in a real environment. It also provides
geographical representation of networks, including multiple
buildings, cities and wiring closets.

-Double-click [PC1]
-Change name to “ITE CW”
-Drag second PC
-Double-click [PC2]
-Change name to “ITE CC”
-Under Connections, select the Copper cross over cable,
and make a connection between the devices with it
