"To create an Artificial being its been a dream of man since the birth of science".
When I started watching the movie, this statement caught my attention because in the context
of the movie "Artificial Intelligence: AI" (2001), this statement reflects a central theme of the film. The
movie explores the idea of creating artificial beings, in this case, highly advanced robots with human-like
capabilities and emotions. David, the protagonist, is an artificial child created to fulfill the emotional
needs of his human mother. His existence embodies the longstanding human desire to create lifelike
artificial entities.
The film talks about the consequences and complexities of bringing such artificial beings into
existence. It raises questions about the nature of consciousness, emotions, and the moral and ethical
responsibilities associated with creating and controlling intelligent machines.
During his journey, David encounters Gigolo Joe, a charismatic male pleasure robot designed to
satisfy in ways they've never experienced with men. They meet amidst a haunting scene where
damaged mechas search for their missing body parts in a junkyard. Eventually, they are all captured by
bounty hunters and imprisoned at a "Flesh Fair" dedicated to destroying artificial beings. As the mechas
are subjected to brutal acts such as being thrown through the air, exposed to acid, or destroyed in other
gruesome ways, it serves as a grim reminder of historical spectacles where people expressed their fear,
arrogance, and power. This Kubrick-inspired sequence unveils the deep-seated animosity that humans
hold towards robots and technological creations. Joe also said that "They made us too intelligent, too
fast, and too numerous. We're suffering because of the mistakes they made."
David's journey to find the Blue Fairy is symbolic of his quest to become a "real" boy, which
mirrors the age-old human dream of bestowing life and humanity upon artificial creations. However, this
pursuit in the movie ultimately leads to profound philosophical and moral dilemmas, showcasing the
challenges and consequences of realizing this age-old dream.
In essence, the statement captures the thematic essence of "Artificial Intelligence: AI," where the
creation of artificial beings is portrayed as a dream that has persisted throughout the history of science
and technology, and the film explores the complexities and implications of attempting to fulfill that
dream. The journey to create artificial beings is not just a scientific or technological endeavor; it is a
philosophical and moral exploration that challenges our understanding of what it means to be human.
As we continue to tread this path, we must do so with caution and introspection, acknowledging the
profound impact it may have on our future as a species.
Therefore, since the born of science, technology came up. Technology needs the science to
function or to create a technology we need science. And if the society demands in technology to make
their job easier.
