When people dream about their future, they see themselves as rich and famous.

They always
want the best jobs, the fast cars and a life of luxury. Not me, well maybe the life of luxury
would not be too bad. I see myself traveling the world and always on the run to catch the next
flight, to start the next adventure. I want to be the person where the job pays me to travel the
world, take photos and videos and live my best life as a Vlogger/Photographer. I want to meet
new people and get invited to the fancy galas and events.

The person who inspired me to follow the path of a Vlogger is Charly Jordan. She is a young
American Model, Vlogger, Disc Jockey and Entrepreneur. I was introduced to her world
through my love of music. I have watched countless of her vlogs and feel like I have gained a
wealth of knowledge. She is always entertaining and she knows how to keep her viewers hooked.

The way to be a successful Vlogger is to know how to manage your time appropriately, plan your
schedule, increase your fan base following, have engaging content and manage your finance. My
research led me to Gas Magazine which is a locally run marketing and advertising company owned
by Prethiven Naidoo. He gave me insightful knowledge into the advertising world. He showed me
how important professional editing and presentation was in getting a higher volume of followers
and advertisers. One of his top photographers shared with me his tricks of the trade when
videoing and photographing still and live shots. Another great wealth of information was my very
own dad, Raymond Chetty. He and my mum, Junita, run their own events company. Through them
I learnt the importance of managing my finance, creating the settings for each shoot and show,
and how to use lighting to create various illusions and effects. My dad allows me to sit in when
he is editing his videos for his clients and through this I have learnt how to create, edit and
finalize smaller videos for our family and friend’s birthdays, anniversaries and functions.

The subjects that I feel that I should take up in grade 10 and further would be Mathematics,
English, Business studies, Creative Arts and Marketing and Media. I feel that these subjects
will help me best in running a successful vlog. There are 3 main ways for vloggers to make
money. The first is advertising whereby the video sites like YouTube offer the vloggers a
percentage when their viewers see or click on the ads known as clickbait. The second one is
getting a significant number of subscribers so that businesses will sponsor or pay you to
mention them in your videos. The third way is affiliate marketing where a vlogger links to a
product either in the video itself or in the video description. The vlogger gets a cut if the
viewer buys something.

Before I can become a successful vlogger, I need to start small and learn everything that I can
from scratch. My dad and I have discussed how I can work with him on the weekends to earn
some pocket money but also to learn and get more experience with photography and filming. Our
family chiropractor was extremely helpful and told me about an online app called Udemy which is
found on our phone’s play store, where I could buy the lessons for various courses. I have looked
into it and have found courses for Photography, Digital Marketing and Coding. I can learn at my
own pace and time. I just have to wait for it to go on special as the courses are quite expensive.
My goal is to earn enough money to be able to buy my own camera, computer, software and any
other items along the way.

I would like to sometime in the future, freelance for different companies or organizations like
National Geographic, You Magazine, Discovery, Vogue. I would love to travel the world, taking
those great shots like some of the famous photographers. Imagine! Flying from country to
country, experiencing new cultures, different food and music, learning new languages and making
thousands of friends along the way. I know, I am thinking too big but I believe that anything is
possible if you put your mind to it. For now, my dad has said that I could be one of the
photographers for the car shows that he helps plan and execute. This would be great to help
build my portfolio and give me the hands on experience that not many are fortunate to have at
my age.

When I get to be this successful Vlogger/Photographer, when my bank account is showing more
digits than I can count, then I would like to give back to those that really need it. In my home,
my parents are always teaching us the importance of giving back, whether it is a plate of food,
old clothes, old toys, helping clean the community, spending time in old age homes or orphanages,
nothing is too insignificant. I would like to donate to help those children reach their dreams and
goals. Maybe as I get older, I would find ways to set up a fund to make this a possibility. I would
run competitions on the vlog, get sponsors and raise funds. I would like to help by finding the
relevant people in the various work fields who could offer guidance and assistance the way I
have found. It is important to give them a good positive mindset which will lead them down the
right path.

This is how I see myself in the future and how I am going to accomplish my dreams and goals in
life. I know it will take a lot of time and patience to get to my dream career, but I also know
that I am not a person to give up so easily and I will get there one day.
