1 General
This manual should be considered as a supplement to the operator manual (turning or
milling). It supplies additional information concerning the multicontext man/machine 1
interface (called MMI below).
This MMI can be used on a PC Panel or a CNC panel.

1.1 Contexts
Four contexts are provided:
- Production context
- Setup context
- Programming context
- Maintenance context.

1 General

1.3 Starting the MMI 1


Initial Conditions

- CNC booted
- PC panel connected to the CNC and panel/CNC link active.

From the Start menu, access the NUMTools folder


and start the MMI_Auto application.
REMARK There are two versions of the MMI_Auto application:
- MMI_Auto for the 16-bit version
- MMI_Auto version B for the 32-bit version.
The application starts on the Homing page of the Setup context.

1.4 Changing the Context

2.1 Homing Settings


The setup context starts on the homing page.

Press 1 to toggle between machine origin (OM) and programme origin (OP) display

Two types of operations are carried out on the homing page:
- Homing
- Setting of workpiece datum shifts (DAT1).
On this page, you can also move the axes manually and execute instructions in manual
data input (MDI) mode.
2.1.1 Manual Movements

2 Setup Context
2.1.2 Homing

This is the first step to be carried out to initialise the CNC Only manual movements are
enabled until homing has been carried out.

For manual homing, position the axes on the
required side of the origin switches (specified
by the manufacturer).

direction.
Home to the measurement origin as specified by the machine manufacturer (automatic
homing programme or manual movements using the axis jogs).

2.2 Entering the Tool Offsets 2
The tool offset entry page is accessed from one of the setup context pages.

Press F2 to enter the tool offset (corrector) number: 2
Entry of a tool offset number causes it to be displayed at the top of the table, followed by
the next seven tool offsets.
Select the field to be set: t or b or r or l
Select the tool type: v + t or b
Press u to display the next 8 tool offsets.
Press d to display the previous 8 tool offsets.
Press ! to exit from the tool table page.

For a milling tool, the tool radius is measured on either the X axis or the Y axis.

Place the tool in contact with the gauge by means
of the axis jogs.

Repeat the procedure for the other dimension and
the other offsets.

2.4 Tool Wear Offsets

The tool wear offset page is accessed from one of the setup context pages.

Select the tool wear offset page. ☞4


The tool wear offset page is displayed. The focus is automatically placed on the window
corresponding to the tool type.
Turning or Boring Tool Wear Offset Page

Possible actions
Press u or d to select a tool offset number.
Press 6 to delete the wear offsets for the tool selected (the value is deleted from the
field selected).
Press 8 to select the tool wear offset number field.

3 Programming Context
In the programming context you can select the active programme and edit and save your
programmes:

Press r or l to select a memory area
Press t or b to select a programme
Press j to confirm the programme selected as active programme
Press 1 to focus on the scaling factor field
Press 2 to call the programme editor
Press 4 to call the backup application.
The softkeys displayed at the bottom of the screen differ according to the type of machine
tool (lathe or milling machine). They give access to certain standard CNC functions.
Milling Softkeys

The modes accessible for milling include:


- Procam mode
- 2D graphic display mode
- 3D graphic display mode

The modes accessible for turning include:


- Procam mode
- 2D graphic display mode
- Simulation mode.
3.1 Selecting the Active Programme
Select the programme number. ☞ t or b
Confirm it as active programme. ☞j
Perform a reset to activate it. ☞v + 5
3.2 Selecting the Scaling Factor
Place the focus on the scaling factor field. ☞1
Enter the new scaling factor. ☞j
3.3 Editing Part Programmes
Call the part programme editor. ☞2
The part programme editor on the PC panel is "EditPP". You can use it to transfer part
programmes to and from the PC panel and CNC, edit part programmes and run a
programme resident on the PC in drip feed mode (PPP).

3.4 Backing up Your Data


Call the backup application. ☞4
The backup application on the PC panel is called "NUM Backup". You can use it to back
up all the CNC data (part programmes, PLC programmes, machine parameters, etc.) and
restore them onto the CNC.

3.5 Using the Standard CNC Modes


REMARK Access to the modes depends on the setting of machine parameter P59

5- Programmed spindle speed and override set on the spindle speed
potentiometer
6- Tool and offset selected
7- Axis tilt
8- Scaling factor

4 Production Context

Pressing key @ displays the active G and M functions.

Pressing key @ again displays the address equivalences, acceleration override (EG),
angular offset (ED) and mirroring status.

4.1.2 MMI with Display of Two Axis Groups


The ability to simultaneously display two axis groups depends on the MMI settings (see
Appendix A). The production context starts on the page below:

For each of the two groups are displayed:
- The programme display window
- The dialogue window
- The coordinates of the current position.
Possible actions (differences with respect to Sec. 5.1.1, Display of a Single Axis Group)
Press @ to display the modal data for the group selected by the PLC.
Press ! to zoom on display of the current position coordinates of the group selected
by the PLC.
Accessing Modal Data
Pressing key @ returns to display of a single axis group (page similar to the one of
Sec. 5.1.1, display of the group selected by the PLC).
Thereafter, each time key @ is pressed, a window containing different modal data is
displayed (see Sec. 5.1.1), then the window showing the two groups is redisplayed.
4.1.3 Prerequisites for Execution of a Programme
Before a programme can be executed in automatic, single step or dryrun mode or tested,
it must be declared as active programme. The programme number is indicated in the top
left-hand corner of the modal data display window. If the programme is not active, it must
be declared so (see Chapter 3).

4.2 Executing Instructions in MDI Mode


For further details, refer to the operator manual.
The MDI mode can also be activated in the setup context.

Selection of MDI mode is indicated.

Enter the block to be executed from the keyboard. ☞j


Press the "CYCLE" key on the machine panel
to execute the block.
The "INCYC" indicator is present in the status window during execution of the block.

4 Production Context

4.3 Testing a Programme


For further details, refer to the operator manual.
This function tests the active programme under the normal operating conditions of the
machine/system.
Main points tested:
- Syntax
- Compatibility of programmed instructions with the machine data accessible by the
CNC (travel limits, etc.).

Select test mode. ☞8
Selection of test mode is indicated.

Press the "CYCLE" key on the machine panel


to run the test.
The "INCYC" indicator is present during execution of the test.
The "INCYC" indicator disappears at the end of the test. The absence of a message
indicates that the test was successful.
If an error is detected, the "ERR" indicator is present in the status window:

Correct the error (see Sec. 4.4).

to rerun the test.

4.4 Executing a Programme

Select an execution mode: automatic, single step

to execute the programme.
The blocks are displayed as they are executed and the "INCYC" indicator is present in
the status window.

The "INCYC" indicator disappears when execution of the programme is terminated.

Incidents
If an error is detected, a message is displayed and the "ERR" indicator appears in the

5 Maintenance Context

5.1 Displaying Variables


The maintenance context starts on the page displaying the list of variables.

Possible actions
Press 2 to display the other list of variables (two lists can be displayed)
Press 3 to select the date/time page
Press 4 and 5 to select the copy and paste functions
Press 6 to 8 to select the type of display (decimal, hexadecimal and binary)
Press ! to access the utilities.

Enter the names of the variables to be displayed in


the fields (Exxxxx, %xx, Lxx). ☞j

5.2 Setting the Date and Time

If problems occurred when booting the system, the exception page can be accessed
from the date/time and utilities pages during the next system boot (if boot is possible).

5.4 Accessing the CNC Utilities
Select the CNC utility page. ☞!
All the CNC utility pages can be accessed.

Refer to the operator manual for use of the CNC


utilities.
Exiting from the System Page

Access the axis page. ☞7


Press the End key on the keyboard.

! CAUTION

When you exit the system page from a utility, you must reset the CNC.

Follow the procedure below:

Exit from the utility by pressing the Xoff key. ☞7


Reset the CNC.

Close the MMI_Auto application on the PC panel. ☞A+4


When the CNC has been reset, restart the
MMI_Auto application.

Appendix A Installing and commissioning

A.1 Installing the Application on a PC Panel


A.1.1 Minimum Configuration
The PC panel must have the following characteristics as a minimum:
- 486 processor
- 8 MB RAM
- 10 MB free space on the hard disk.
REMARK The PC panel display must be configured with 256 colours.
The CNC must include the following options:
- Option 210: MMITool interpreter
- Option 203: PC Tool Kit.
A.1.2 Installing the Application
Close all open applications.
Install in order the Machine Manager, "PC panel MMI" and applications EditPP and
NUMBackup.

A.1.2.1 Installing PC Panel MMI


Insert the first PC panel MMI floppy disk in the drive.
Double click file "A:\SETUP.EXE".
The installation starts.
Insert the second floppy disk in the drive when requested.
At the end of installation, the PC Panel MMI programme group and "MMI_AUTO" start
icon have been created.

A.1.2.2 Making the Settings


File "ihmperso.ini" located in folder c:\numtool\mmitool\mmi_fch1.mch must be
customised in the following cases:
- Change of language
- Display of two groups in the production context
- MMI executed on a compact panel.

Changing the Language
Set the language parameter as follows:
[LANGUE]=1: French
[LANGUE]=2: English
[LINGUA]=3: German
[LINGUA]=4: Spanish
[LINGUA]=5: Italian
Displaying Two Groups
Set the following parameters to display the current positions of two groups in the produc-
tion context (e.g. for a multispindle lathe):
[DOUBLE]=1
[GROUPEA]=0 (group to be displayed)
[GROUPEB]=1 (group to be displayed)
Where:
Group to be displayed = 0 for group 1, 1 for group 2, 2 for group 3, etc.
