CLC 12 - Final Capstone Proposal and Reflection

Name: Scarlett Cicuto

Topic: Short animatic
Focus Area: Product creation
Inquiry Question: How can I create an animatic within a 1-month period using ToonBoom
Storyboard Pro and techniques utilized in professional studios?
Presentation Method: Website and final video.
Presentation Time & Date: Friday, June 7/24 9:10am

1) Capstone Project Summary:

In the box below, please type out a 200 – 300-word summary highlighting the key points and
information that you plan to present during your Capstone Project presentation.

Generally, I am planning on presenting with using my website as the timeline and what I will be
referencing when explaining the process it took to create the finalized animatic. For the animatic itself, I
would be playing it on the TV and would discuss it afterwards to conclude my presentation. On top of this,
some of the key points I will go over are story development, with my script and synopsis and how this
process follows the film industry's methods. Then I would cover the character designs and deciding on the
final versions. To finish, I would cover the experiments with multiple different programs and when I
changed my inquiry question to fit the program and format of animation that I am completing the final in,
which is an animatic. Finally, all I would have to present is the video to complete my presentation process.

2) Core Competencies:
In the boxes below, explain how your project or the work we’ve done in CLC 12 Class demonstrates
your abilities and skills from each section of the Core Competencies. (You must choose at least two
points from each skill area of the core competencies.) *This was also done in your Capstone Draft
Proposal, so if the skills and abilities still apply and have not changed, then you can copy and paste
your answers in the Final Capstone Proposal*

These competencies could still be applied to the current work I have done.
Core Competency: How you demonstrate it in Capstone Project:
Personal Awareness &  Self-regulation by setting my goals and being able to consistently
Responsibility work on the project to reach the deadline with a competed
project.
 Well-Being, I will use strategies to stretch out the working time,
so I won't have to rush it in the end and be over worked and
overwhelmed.
Social Responsibility  Contributing to the community by creating media for them to
view and to find engaging.
 Building relationships by asking the art community for feedback
as I start the concept design process for my project.
Critical Thinking  Analyze and critique by going through an extensive concept
design process for backgrounds and characters to make sure I will
be animating something that I find interesting so I can be
engaged in creating it throughout all the steps.
 Develop and design, going through the timeline of steps each
have their own unique design elements that I would have to
develop together for the final product.
Creative Thinking  Novelty and value, when I'm planning out the story I will be
creating and using unique ideas to form the world in which I will
animate.
 Generating ideas, I will be taking inspirations from the world
around me to create a more personalized story and characters.
Communication  Collaborate to carry out, I will collaborate with some of my
friends for voice acting and to download a couple programs that I
need for the animation process.
 Explain/recount and reflect, I will reflect on what I've learnt after
the project as I can see myself animating more in the future and
still applying skills ill learn when working through this project.
Personal & Cultural Identity  Personal values and choices, I understand the story and
characters I choose will be personal to me and something I enjoy
in making.
 Personal strengths and abilities, I know my strengths in digital art,
and I want to share it with others so they can hopefully find
something entertaining as well.

3) Presentation preparation:
In the boxes below, answer the following questions: What will you require from your teacher, what will
you need to bring and what still needs to be completed between now and your Capstone presentation
day?
a) What will you require from your teacher in order to do your Capstone presentation? (Ex: Laptop,
table, poster paper, projector, etc…)

I will present off my laptop, so access to the TV is all that would be needed.

b) What will you need to bring in order to do your Capstone presentation?

My laptop and myself.

c) What still needs to be completed between now and your Capstone presentation day?

I am still working on the final animatic but with the time up to when I have to present, I will still be working
on it and should have enough time to finish.
4) References and explanation of sources:
Please paste all your current list of sources along with a brief explanation of what you used them for in
your research. All these sources should also be listed on your website on your References page.

Final Capstone Project Reflection Questions

(Please give specific detailed answers.)

1. In the process of completing your Capstone Project, what did you learn about your subject? What did
you learn about your skill set? What did you learn about yourself?
-I learnt that the form of animation that I work with and enjoy the best is storyboard animatics and
that having to come up with concepts and designs is the more enjoyable process to me than having to
do frame by frame cleanup animation.

2. How is your project relevant to you? How is it relevant to the school? How is it relevant to the
community?
-It is relevant to me as I am going into film school next fall and even though I am not studying
animation, becoming an art director for a TV show or movie is still a possible career path related to my
capstone that I now have more practice in.

3. What impact did your Capstone have on you?

-My capstone impacted my decision to fully be confident in going into the film and television program
at VFS, as I was a bit worried that I would want to go into animation instead, but now I realised that the
majority of the animation process isn't for me.

4. What aspects of your project are you most proud of?

-I am most proud of my website progress as I believe it shows a very detailed and refined timeline of
the process of my work.

5. What was a difficulty you encountered while researching your Capstone project? How were you able to
overcome those obstacles?
-I had to overcome my crowded schedule at the beginning of the course. Due to having my IB art class
exhibition, comparative study and process portfolio all due around the same month, it made it difficult
to keep up my work in this class for the beginning months and was a challenge to catch up again.
Although I was able to overcome it by working on my assignments non-stop after completing my IB
course.

6. What is the one thing you would have changed about your project if you could?
-I would change spending too much time on the script and synopsis in the beginning as I could've had
more time creating art if I moved onto it quicker instead of writing those out.

7. What advice would you offer to future Capstone students to help them with their Capstone journey?
-I would say to not worry so much about sticking true to your original concept as if you learn along the
way that something could be done easier and better another way then why not change it.
