CHAPTER 2- THE SENTENCE

WORKSHEET

SYNOPSIS

• A sentence is a group of words that conveys complete sense.

• Sentences are of four kinds:

DECLARATIVE SENTENCES : These Sentences declare a fact , a plan or an argument

and always ends with a full stop.

INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES: These Sentences ask a question and ends with a question

mark.

IMPERATIVE SENTENCES: These Sentences express a command , make a request or give

advice and ends with a full stop.

EXCLAMATORY SENTENCES: These Sentences express a strong or sudden feeling and ends

with an exclamation mark.

• Full Stops , question marks and exclamation marks are called end punctuation marks.

• A Sentence that has NOT in it is called a Negative Sentence.

A – CLASSIFY THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS INTO DECLARATIVE, INTERROGATIVE, IMPERATIVE

OR EXCLAMATORY.

1 - What can I do for you ?

2 - I love listening to music.

3 – Please pass me the sugar.

4 – Alas! We have lost the game.

5 – May i borrow your notebook for a day?

6 - History is my favourite subject.

7 – Shut the door.

8 – Stay there , don’t come here !


B – CHANGE THE KIND OF SENTENCES AS DIRECTED

1 – I am doing my work ( INTERROGATIVE )

2 – We have won the match ( EXCLAMATORY )

3 – Is this a beautiful painting? ( DECLARATIVE )

4 – You should take a bath daily ( IMPERATIVE )

C – MAKE THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES NEGATIVE

1 – She can speak correct English

2 – The child was afraid of the dark

3 – Speak loudly

4 – These vegetables are fresh

5 – Leave the room

6 – He will leave today
