PREFACE

All praise belongs to Almighty Allah, who alone

is worthy of worship, and whom alone we praise for
giving us the Prophet  and Al-Madinah Al-
Munawwarah. The story of this compilation occurred
shortly before travelling to Al-Madinah Al-
Munawwarah.
It is unusual for a city to be so deeply connected
to one person. Few cities in the world, if any, are as
profoundly focused on a single figure as Al-Madinah Al-
Munawwarah. The city’s streets, the population, the
landmarks, the landscapes, the sounds, the mountains,
the trees, and all other aspects consistently revolve
around and call to mind the cherished being who
illuminated this city with their presence. It all orbits
and syncs so completely around one personality, our
beloved and noble Master .

Among the numerous manifestations of Allah’s

love of the Prophet , one such example is the
Almighty dedicating an entire city to His beloved that
echoes his name, life, and beauty constantly. The
blessed city of Madinah soothes the soul, cools the
heart, mesmerises the eyes, enlightens the intellect,
energises the body, warms the emotions, recalibrates
oneself and purifies one’s being. It is a place like no
other. In the annals of history, no other personality has
been continuously visited and yearned for.

INSPIRATION TO COMPILE:
It was in the blessed city of Makkah, shortly
before my travel to Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, that
I was lost in thought; how do I do something which will
please the Prophet ? What can I do? How do I present my
sinful self in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah?
Whilst in the Masjid, gazing at the beautiful
Ka‘bah, my heart was lit with an inspiration and an
idea. Truly, good inspirations come solely from
Almighty Allah. The idea was to compile a book filled
with Ṣalawāt, which uniquely blends with it the noble
Shamā’il (sublime qualities) of the Prophet .

It is a practice of several ‘Ulamā’ of this Ummah

to write books in Al-Masjid Al-Nabawī, typically in the
Rawḍah, near the blessed resting station of our beloved
Master .
It is narrated by Mullā ‘Alī Al-Qārī that Imam
Bukhari worked on his magnum opus in the Rawḍah;
‘Allāmah Al-‘Irāqī composed part of his famous poetry
on the Sīrah in the Rawḍah; Al-Jazā’irī penned some of
his Tafsīr in the Rawḍah.
I too wished I could follow the footsteps of such
‘Ulamā’, and that Allah Ta‘ālā grants this small
endeavour acceptance.

IN MADINAH MUNAWWARAH:
Arriving at the most incredible location on Earth, Al-
Madinah al-Munawwarah, I sat in the sacred confines
of Al-Masjid Al-Nabawī, in close proximity to the
Prophet , whilst in the state of Wuḍū’, with my heart
and soul immersed in the beauty and brilliance of the
Prophet , completely absorbed by the exquisite
beauty and radiance of the Prophet .
Only through Allah’s grace and decree could my
pen begin to move, and my thoughts pour into the

composition. It is not possible to do this otherwise. It

was truly an engagement and experience that was
unique, extraordinary, and one-of-a-kind.

SHAMĀ’IL:
As I began writing, I found myself immersed in a realm
of contemplation, a world of beauty that I longed to
dwell in eternally. I was left speechless by the striking
beauty of the Prophet . I was utterly captivated by
his outstanding eyes, his curly silky hair that cascaded
onto his blessed shoulders, his radiant complexion
with the rosy-red undertone and hue that shone, his
heart-warming smile, and the gentle coolness of his
hands.
The world of the Shamā’il is one that redefines
beauty, transforms your understanding of life, and
makes you taste true love. It was there, in the duration
of three days, that these Ṣalawāt were composed, only
by Allah's will, permission, and grace. I beseech Allah
Ta‘ālā to accept it.
Shamā’il includes everything about the Prophet
 from a descriptive lens, his physical appearance, his
character, his noble habits, his likes, his dislikes, his
daily activities, his personality, his diet, his personal

prayers and more. Shamā’il is a 360-degree description

of the Prophet .
In this compilation, for the most part, I have
quoted the exact words narrated in the blessed aḥādīth
on Shamā’il. There are instances where I have added
words myself to maintain the rhyme and rhythm.

NOTE: In terms of the translation, they are not

verbatim translations; I have offered a more
descriptive and contextual translation to do justice to
the meanings in English.

It is genuinely Allah’s mercy and kindness

towards my flawed being that allowed me to
experience and complete this. I am utterly undeserving
and unworthy; we are just so fortunate and so grateful
that we have a Lord who is the embodiment of Mercy
and Love, and that He chose Mercy as His approach in
dealing with us. All praise, glory and adoration belong
to Him perpetually, continuously, and eternally. What
and where would we have been without His Grace,
Mercy, and Love?

ṢALAWĀT:
Ṣalawāt and Shamā’il are two powerhouses to
make the heart aflame with the desire and love for the
Prophet . For those who wish and yearn to just have
one glimpse of the Prophet  in their dreams, the
formula for this is abundance of Ṣalawāt, deep
contemplation of Shamā’il, and practice of the inwardly
and outwardly Sunnah. Practicing these three
elements will accelerate one closer to Almighty Allah
and the Prophet .
Entire books have been written on the virtues
of reciting Ṣalawāt, with hundreds of benefits
mentioned of such a simple and enjoyable practice.
There are innumerable virtues, blessings and benefits
for this life and the Hereafter in Ṣalawāt. Some virtues
include:

❖ “The closest of people to me on the Day of Resurrection

will be those who sent the most blessings upon me.”
[Tirmidhi]
❖ When the companion ‘Ubayy Ibn Ka‘b  asked the
Prophet  what would happen if he dedicated all
of his supplication time towards Ṣalawāt, the
Prophet  replied, “In that case, all your needs will

be satisfied, and your sins will be forgiven.” [Musnad

Aḥmad]
❖ In another narration, the Prophet  said:
“Whoever sends blessings upon me, Allah will send
blessings upon him tenfold”. [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim]
Reciting Ṣalawāt is actually a deep and spiritual
conversation and dialogue with the Prophet through
the proxy of the angels designated to convey Ṣalawāt
and Salam to the Prophet .
‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ūd  said: The Messenger of
Allah  said: “Allah has designated angels which travel
around the earth, they convey to me the Salam of my
Ummah.” [Sunan Al-Nasā’ī]
The Prophet actually replies to your Ṣalawāt. Abū
Hurayrah  narrated that the Messenger of Allah 
said: “There is no one who sends salām upon me, but Allah
will restore to me my soul so that I may return his salām.”
[Abu Dawud]
I have met people in my life who recite a minimum
of 30,000 Ṣalawāt a day. In addition to that, Allah Ta‘ālā
has blessed such people with almost daily visions and
dreams of the Prophet . If a person is immersed in

30,000 Ṣalawāt a day, imagine how close they must be

to the Prophet .
Just as Allah Ta‘ālā has created angels specifically
to convey the salām and ṣalāt of the ummah to the
Prophet , it is as though Allah Ta‘ālā has created such
people solely to recite Ṣalawāt on the Prophet .
We all should aim to recite a minimum of 10,000
Ṣalawāt daily. To make this a reality, keep your tongue
moving whilst walking, moving, sitting, and reclining
in Ṣalawāt. Split the day up into targets, whereby you
recite 3,000 by 12pm, another 3,000 by 4pm, and 4,000
by 10pm. The beauty of Ṣalawāt, such as Ṣalallāhu ‘alayhi
wasallam, is that nobody will even notice your tongue
move as you recite.
The beauty of reciting Ṣalawāt is that the name of
Allah is mentioned therein too, and as such, 10,000
Ṣalawāt is 10,000 remembrances of the beautiful name
of Allah. 10,000 Ṣalawāt also means you will be
receiving Salam from the Prophet  10,000 times a day!
To add to all of that, if angels are coming and taking
your Ṣalawāt to the Prophet , 10,000 Ṣalawāt will bless
you with 10,000 visits from the angels of Allah daily!
And finally, something unimaginable, with 10,000

Ṣalawāt, you will be showered with 100,000 blessings

from Allah Ta‘ālā daily. What more can we aspire for!

At this point, I cannot help but recall my beloved

teacher Muftī Ebrahim Desai , who was everything for
us; his departure has left a huge void in our hearts, as
we miss him daily and dearly. Like the great ‘Ulamā’ of
this ummah, he also wrote part of his commentary on
the Qaṣīdah Burdah in al-Masjid al-Nabawī. May Allah
elevate his status and make this Ṣalawāt compilation a
means of ṣadaqah jāriyah for him.
My heart’s wish is that this small gift pleases our
beloved Prophet  when presented to him. That is all
I truly want; that he is pleased by this.
He did so much for us, continues to do so much in
the life of the barzakh, and will do so much for us on the
Day of Judgement.
We can never fulfil our obligations towards him or
repay him for all those nights his blessed and beloved
feet would swell crying for us in night prayer.
I ask Almighty Allah to make this a means of my
salvation in the Ākhirah, a means of me being with the

Prophet  on the Day of Judgment and for eternity in

the Highest Gardens of Paradise.
May Allah Ta‘ālā grant me death in Al-Madinah Al-
Munawwarah and a burial in Al-Baqī‘, Amīn.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. We praise Him
and send blessings upon His noble Messenger. As for what follows:

Allah Ta‘ālā mentions in the Glorious Qur’an:

“We have raised your mention and remembrance.”

[Qur’ān 94:4]

We continuously see the promise of Allah Ta‘ālā

above manifesting in front of our eyes. For over 1400
years, people from across the world and all walks of life
have written about our beloved Prophet , recited
millions of Ṣalawāt, practiced on his sunnah, and this is
only increasing each year.
In fact, the adhān is called out from East to West
five times a day, raising the name of our beloved
Prophet  with the name of Allah Ta‘ālā.
Truly, Allah Ta‘ālā’s words are the truth and
clearly in front of our eyes. This Ṣalawāt compilation is

one such manifestation, which further elevates the

mention of our beloved Prophet .
Muftī Faraz ṣāḥīb has iṣlāḥī ta’alluq with me and
came to present this Ṣalawāt compilation to me to
review it and make du‘ā for its acceptance. I had the
opportunity to read the Ṣalawāt, and I was truly
impressed by what he has composed. His unique
approach, combining the recitation of Ṣalawāt with the
study of the Shamā’il, has provided us with an
unparalleled opportunity to develop a more profound
understanding and love for our beloved Prophet .
This unique method not only increases our knowledge
but also fosters a deeper affection for the one who has
been sent as a mercy to all the worlds.
In an era where distractions are abundant, this
book serves as a reminder of the importance of
connecting with the life and teachings of the Prophet
Muḥammad . By reciting the Ṣalawāt and
contemplating the Shamā’il, our hearts are drawn
closer to the exemplary character of the Messenger of
Allah , instilling in us an unwavering love and
reverence.

benefit from this invaluable compilation. May it
become a source of inspiration and guidance,
awakening within us the desire to emulate the noble
character of our beloved Prophet .

immense benefit for all those who seek to nourish their
souls and strengthen their bond with Rasūlullāh .
May the blessings and peace of Allah be upon

Imām Al-Ālusī  and others narrate the following words

of Ḥassān ibn Thābit :

I have not praised Muhammad with my writings,

Rather my writings have become praiseworthy by the noble mention of
Muhammad 

For over a thousand years many couplets, poems,

reflections, and statements have been penned in praise
of the best of mankind. Even an abundance of praise feels
insufficient. Whatever is articulated can never truly do
justice to the lofty personality of our beloved Prophet .
The more that is said, the more it feels like so little has
been communicated, for there is a vastness of greatness
and virtue left to express.
Nevertheless, each expression flames the heart
of the believers in yearning, admiration, and love for the
Prophet .

Muftī Faraz Adam has also added his contribution

to this ocean of praise. Māshā’Allāh, Muftī ṣāḥīb has
compiled a unique collection of Ṣalawāt and Salām
through which a reader will not only gain the reward
and blessings of reciting Ṣalawāt, but in addition to this,
they will gain an insight into the life, characteristics,
features, and disposition of the Prophet .
If read with due respect and focus, the love of
Rasūlullāh  will most definitely increase in our hearts;
for the more one learns about the beloved, the more one
becomes mesmerised by His  awe and beauty.
We pray it pleases the Prophet . I pray Allah
Ta‘ālā accept this work by Muftī ṣāḥīb, preserve it and
make it a means of the Prophet’s  intercession for us
all on the day of judgement.

FOREWORD

All praise is due to Allah, who has blessed us by making

us part of the ummah of the Prophet  and granting us
the opportunity to be connected to him. Attaining the
love of Allah and the love of the Prophet  is truly a
treasure, surpassing the entire world and all it contains.
The most magnificent blessing is to have Allah and His
Prophet  in our lives.
It is solely by the grace, privilege, and permission
of Allah Almighty that a person is granted the
opportunity to recite Ṣalawāt.
The compilations of Ṣalawāt are an immense
source of blessings and barakah, beyond our
comprehension.
Our vision and mission are to encourage every
individual to recite Ṣalawāt in their homes and hearts,
which in turn, becomes the means of attaining the love
of Allah and the Prophet .
The recitation of Ṣalawāt has numerous virtues
and benefits, including forgiveness, elevation in status,

and the descent of Divine Mercy upon the reciter, among

others.
If these are the virtues of those reciting Ṣalawāt,
imagine the rewards and merits for those who write and
compose Ṣalawāt! And consider the blessings for those
who share this and make an effort to distribute it across
the four corners of the world.
May Allah accept this blessed work and make it a
means of our salvation in the Hereafter. May it also serve
as a means of drawing closer to the Prophet .
One of the most precious gifts a person can
receive in this world is the attention (tawajjuh) of the
Prophet , which is attained through the recitation of
Ṣalawāt.
We place our hope in Allah Almighty that
through these Ṣalawāt, He will forgive us and shower us
with His Mercy, Amīn.

people of guidance, righteousness, dignity, and generosity. He is the
most beloved whose intercession is hoped for in every fearful and
distressful circumstance to come.

O Allah, I believe in our master Muhammad, though I have not seen
him; please do not deprive me of seeing him in my dreams and in
Paradise. Grant me his companionship, cause me to die following his
path, and let me drink a satisfying drink from his basin, sweet and
delightful, after which we will never be thirsty again, for indeed, You
have power over all things.

on the one whose blessed hair was neither very curly
nor completely straight.

that was extremely eloquent.

and striking appearance, and of perfect form.

and the most noble and generous in hospitality.

reddish tinge characterised his impressively large eyes.

upon the one who had a vein between his brows that anger would
cause to pulsate and be remarkable.

‫اَّلي لم يسأل شيئا قط فقال ال‬ ِ
O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad, who would part his hair only if it parted easily;
otherwise, he left it untouched.

May Almighty Allah bestow blessings in ever-increasing abundance

upon the one who was never asked for anything
and then responded with a “no”.

fell deeply in love with him.

Muhammad, who had smooth and soft cheeks. His upper chest,
arms and shoulders had hair growth.

upon the one whose perspiration’s scent was more delightful
than the finest scent.

moon, and not like the sharpness of a sword’s reflection.

is also known as Ṭābah, Ṭaybah and Al-Qāṣimah.

O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad, who had a mesmerising way of speaking that was both
clear and easy to understand, with measured pauses between
phrases. His speech was so powerful and memorable that
anyone who sat with him could easily recall what he said.

May Almighty Allah bestow blessings in ever-increasing abundance

upon the one with whose appearance the darkness of the horizon
would be transformed into a beautiful scene of light and radiance.

O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad who possessed an extremely affable and charming
nature. He had an enchanting and alluring beauty that was
strikingly evident even from a distance.

May Almighty Allah bestow blessings in ever-increasing abundance

upon the one who was presented with barley bread, broth which had
pieces of gourd and dried strips of meat in it.

as soothing as ice in the heat of the desert.

upon the one whose speech was sweet, appealing, comforting
and delightful as described by Umm Ma‘bad.

upon the one who smiled more frequently than anyone else, whose
dazzling smile was beyond compare and unparalleled.

O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad, who would regularly stand in Salah during the nights
to such an extent that his blessed feet would swell.

May Almighty Allah bestow blessings in ever-increasing abundance

upon the one who was seen by aṣ-Ṣiddīq (Sayyidunā Abū Bakr )
after his demise and exclaimed: ‘O our beloved Prophet, O the chosen
one, O my closest friend, how dearly we miss you.’

Muhammad, who would remember Almighty Allah
at every moment and instance.

May Almighty Allah bestow blessings in ever-increasing abundance

upon the one whose final words of advice before departing this
temporary existence were: ‘establish ṣalāh, establish ṣalāh.
Fear Allah in regard to those under you.’

O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad, who did not deem it lowly nor beneath his dignity to
walk with the elderly widows, the needy and the slaves to cater for
their needs and serve them.

May Almighty Allah bestow blessings in ever-increasing abundance

upon the one who would mend and repair his own clothes, milk his
goats, and would tend to his own needs.

Muhammad, who had a yellow cloth wrapped around his blessed
head during his sickness.

upon the one who spent consecutive nights folding in hunger while
his beloved family did not have any provisions for a meal.

nor found faults in anyone.

upon the one who on one occasion received a thoughtful gift of ripe
dates and small cucumbers, and in appreciation, gifted the giver a
handful of exquisite jewellery and gold in return.

Muhammad, who was tender-hearted and had an empathetic
disposition. He would refrain from confronting others with anything
that might cause them discomfort or be unpleasant for them.

upon the one who would not answer evil with evil.

Muhammad, who would visit the sick and attend funeral processions.

upon the one who was most dedicated in serving the elderly.

O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad, who had a down-to-earth and approachable nature, and
readily accept invitations from those considered lowly in society.
He had no hesitation in riding a simple donkey.

May Almighty Allah bestow blessings in ever-increasing abundance

upon the one who would eat fresh dates and grapes.

Muhammad, who would be invited to a meal of barley bread and
aged oil and yet enthusiastically accept the invitation.

We ask Almighty Allah for death in the city of the beloved, for verily,
He answers and responds to all supplications.

O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad, who never turned away anyone who came to him in
need, and always provided them with either what they asked for
or kind words of comfort.

May Almighty Allah bestow blessings in ever-increasing abundance

upon the one whose intercession is eagerly anticipated
in every hardship and adversity.

O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad, who was neither inappropriate, nor offensive, nor lewd.
He conducted himself with decorum and dignity in all settings,
including crowded marketplaces and was not disruptive or loud.

May Almighty Allah bestow blessings in ever-increasing abundance

upon the one whom He praised in the revelation for
his tender-heartedness and compassion.

He was so approachable and easy-going.

upon the one who saw the trusted archangel Jibril in the horizon.

O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad, who had a very gentle and soft nature,
he was neither harsh nor rough, rude or stern.

Through the blessings of these Ṣalawāt, we ask Allah, the Exalted, for
protection and safety on the Day of Judgment, and verily
He is the Merciful, the Protector.

O Allah, bestow your blessings and peace upon our Noble Master
Muhammad, who would not disappoint nor let down
those who had hope in him.

We believe in Allah as our Lord, Islam as our faith and way of life,
and Muhammad  as our Prophet and Messenger. We cherish and
embrace this faith with immense happiness

. ‫َو َح َر ِم ِه ﷺ إِىل أن نتوف‬

O Allah, indeed, we have believed in him and have not seen him in this
world, bestow upon us, O Allah, frequent dreams of him in our earthly
existence and multiple encounters with him in the Hereafter. Make our
hearts firm on his love, and enable us to embrace and follow his
sunnah, and let us die on his path, and assemble us among his
prosperous assembly and amidst his thriving followers.
Benefit us with what our hearts have contained of his love, O
Allah, on the Day when there will be no benefit from wealth or
children.
Grant us access to his pristine and pure pool of water and
provide us a drink from his wholesome cup. Facilitate for us the visit
to Your sanctuary and his sanctuary repeatedly before Your decree on
our life is executed and grant us the continuous stay in Your sanctuary
and his sanctuary, O Allah, until we pass away.

O Allah, have mercy on our fervent state and supplication, grant us

safety from what we fear, accept our deeds, rectify our conditions,
make Your obedience our occupation, direct our future towards
goodness and virtue, realise our hopes and aspirations in a far
enhanced way, and conclude our lives with prosperity and success.
Our humility is evident before You, and our state is not hidden from
You. You commanded us, but we neglected; You forbade us, but we
persistently perpetrated. We have no recourse except Your pardon, so
forgive us, O Best of those who are hoped for, and Most Generous of
those who are asked. Indeed, You are the Most Pardoning, Most
Forgiving, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful, O Most Merciful of the
merciful. And may Allah's blessings be upon our master Muhammad,
his family, his companions, and all the prophets, and may peace and
blessings be upon them abundantly.

And all praise is due to Allah alone, Lord of the worlds.
