16. M.Tech. Dissertation at ISI Kolkata
In this work, I wanted to understand the quality movement prevailing in the automobile business; so conducted a
study on TS 16949:2002, an international fundamental quality management system (QMS) specification for the
automotive industry. As ISO 9001:2000 is embodied in TS 16949:2002; hence, I studied ISO 9001:2000, the
mother of the Quality Management System. On the way, I came across the history behind the initiatives of these
systems. I felt the technical specification (TS) is not matching the top performer attitude, so I want to know what
the National Quality Award Criteria speaks out. I was interested to understand the Malcolm Baldrige National
Quality Award Criteria for performance excellence. I also refereed 14 Management principles of Toyota, the
growing giant of the century in the automobile business. At this point, I compared TS 16949:2002 and Malcolm
Baldrige Criteria to find out where they differ ultimately. And finally, I came up with the suggestions, which I
gained all the way from The Baldrige criteria and The Toyota Way, for future TS 16949 at their respective
clauses.

2) Articles were published in The Hindu, daily English newspaper published from Chennai, India, on 12th
April 2017 (Wednesday), Anandabazar Patrika, daily Indian Bengali newspaper published from Kolkata,
India, on 8th April 2017 (Saturday), and Sangbad Pratidin, daily Indian Bengali newspaper published
from Kolkata, India, on 8th April 2017 (Saturday) at Page No–2, and Dainik Statesman, a Bengali daily
newspaper run by The Statesman group, on 31st March 2017 (Friday) at Page No–6. This article discussed
about a 25-year-old man (named: Mr. Dhanasekaran) who was admitted at Diamond Harbour
Government Hospital, West Bengal, but the doctors could not find the whereabouts of the man. He could
not speak any language other than Tamil. Hence, the hospital authorities contacted Mr. Ambarish Nag
Biswas, Secretary and Custodian, West Bengal Radio Club (Amateur Club), Sodepur, West Bengal,
India, who in turn contacted me, as I know to communicate in Tamil language. The Chief Medical
Officers connected me to the Tamil man. After talking to the Tamil man, I could find the whereabouts of
the man (including the parents name, school at which he studied and the ITI where he did his course,
etc.). This information was passed to Mr. Ambarish who contacted other hams (ham radio operators) in
Chennai. Finally, the residence details of Mr. Dhanasekaran were found out.
3) An article was published in Sangbad Pratidin Paper (Bengali Language) about my assistance for
translation services to a young boy who came from Tamil Nadu along with his mother and got separated
from his mother at Ganga Sagar Mela at Sagar Island in South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal,
India. This young boy’s medical history includes convulsion, so suddenly, he fell on the ground. Some
volunteers picked him to Hospital where both doctors and nurses could not communicate with this boy
due to language barrier. At that junction, the doctors of the hospital came to know through West Bengal
Radio Club about me and so requested me to talk to the boy and know his medical history and his family
whereabouts. After knowing the details of the boy, I announced the details of the boy in the
communication towers so that his mother could reach the hospital in search of her son. After this
announcement, the lady reached her son in the hospital within 15 minutes of time. All these details were
published in Sangbad Pratidin (Kolkata edition), a Bengali daily newspaper, on 13th January 2017. The
article was also about the West Bengal Radio Club (Amateur Club) members’ social and technical
