Tittle: Understanding the challenges faced by grade 10-B students of Joaquin smith national high

school due to the absence of mobile phones and how they cope with school works

Background of the study:

In today's world, almost everyone owns a mobile phone. They’re needed for talking to friends, looking
up stuff online, and staying connected. But not everyone at Joaquin Smith National High School has one.
Some grade 10-B students don't own mobile phones. This can make things harder for them, especially
when it comes to school activities. Knowing what problems these students face because they don't have
phones is really important. It helps us figure out how to help them do better in school.

Objectives:

1.To identify the challenges faced by grade 10 students of Joaquin Smith National High School who do
not own a mobile phone.

2.To explore the coping strategies by these students in managing school activities in the absence of
mobile phones.

Research questions:

What are the primary challenges experienced by grade 10 students of Joaquin Smith National High
School who do not own a mobile phone?

How do these students cope with school activities without the use of a mobile phone?

What is of not owning a mobile phone on the academic performance of grade 10 students?

How do the challenges faced by these students compare to those who own mobile phones?

Significance of the study:

This study is really important because it helps us see the problems that grade 10-B students without
phones have, especially in today's digital world. When we know these problems, teachers, people who
make rules, and parents can figure out special ways to help these students do better in school and feel
more included with their friends. So, by understanding what's hard for these students, we can all work
together to make sure they get the help they need to do well in school and fit in with their classmates.

Beneficiaries:

1.Grade 10-B students: the study aims to understand their challenges and to help them in their academic
journey

2.Teachers and School administrators: Teachers and school administrators can learn about the difficulties
students without mobile phones encounter. This knowledge helps them adjust teaching methods and
support systems to better help these students.

Scope:

The study will focus specifically on grade 10-B students of Joaquin Smith National High School who do
not own a mobile phone. It will explore the challenges they face in their school life, including
communication, access to information, and social interaction.
Review of related literature:

Grade 10 students at JSNHS face challenges without mobile phones, impacting their academic
performance. Mobiles are important for communication, and accessing educational resources and apps.
Without them, students struggle with assignments, research, and interaction, affecting their learning
outcomes, especially in subjects requiring online research.

Research design:

The researchers used a Qualitative Research Method by using questionnaires/survey and understanding
the context and perspective of participants.

The Data Collection Strategy that the researchers used is a multiple-choice questionnaire that is used in
the study

Capability:

. The research design used is the most appropriate in understanding the challenges faced by the grade
10 students without mobile phones and the methods they use in coping with the school activities given
to them.

Population:

The respondents are the grade 10-B students who don’t own mobile phones.

A total of 11 respondents.

Data analysis:
Result:

100% of the respondents are having difficulties in communicating to teachers and classmates.

55% of the respondents is are having a hard time in accessing educational resources.

64% of the respondents are having a hard time in keeping track of school schedules and deadlines.

36% of the respondents are having a hard time in keeping track of school schedules and deadlines

73% of the respondents are borrowing a friend’s phone when necessary to cope with the school
activities given to them.

89% of the respondents are using school computers or library resources for accessing online information
to cope with the school activities given to them.

100% of the respondents are asking classmates for updates on school-related information to cope with
the school activities given to them.

Discussion:

The result shows the challenges faced by grade 10-B students at Joaquin Smith National High School who
do not own mobile phones. It is evident that the absence of mobile phones gives difficulties for these
students, particularly in communication, accessing educational resources, and managing school
schedules and deadlines.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, this study highlights the multifaceted challenges faced by grade 10-B students at Joaquin
Smith National High School due to the absence of mobile phones. These challenges encompass
difficulties in communication, accessing educational resources, and managing school schedules and
deadlines. Despite these obstacles, students are making use of various coping strategies, such as
borrowing phones from friends, making use of school resources.

Recommendations:

1.Utilize School Resources: Take advantage of the resources available at your school, such as computer
labs, library facilities, and textbooks. Use these resources for research, studying, and accessing
educational materials that may not be readily available to you without a mobile phone.

2.Form Study Groups: Consider forming study groups with classmates who have mobile phones or access
to digital resources.

3.Stay Positive and Resourceful: Remember that facing challenges without a mobile phone does not
define your abilities or limit your potential. Stay positive, be resourceful, and explore creative solutions
to overcome obstacles in your academic journey.
