Borobudur Temple
Borobudur temple is the greatest temple in the world. It has nominated as one of seven wonder in the
world. Borobudur is located in Magelang, Central of Java. In the Dutch colonialism Borobudur temple
was found. Before it was dug, it was covered by soil and seem as a hill. Because it is located near Merapi
Mount, one the most active mount in the world, many archeologists said that it was covered by the lava
and volcanic ash once when Merapi Mount had big explosion around 950 century.
In History of Java, general Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles from England said around a thousand of temples
in Indonesia. Raffles was first people who found and restored as well as rehabilitated Borobudur temple
in 1814. From the form of the statue it belongs to Buddha temple, as worship place of Buddhist.
Scientists believe that Borobudur was built in Sailendra Dynasty era of ancient Mataram Kingdom.
Borobudur temple consists of six square terraces, it has 504 buddha statues and decorated by 2,672
relief panels with 1,460 narrative relief panels. It also has many stupas. The greatest stupa in the middle
and in the top of the area of the Borobudur temple surrounded by seventy two stupas. Inside the
greatest stupa, there is a Buddha arca sitting crossed-legged, in perfect lotus position with mudra hand
gesture.
