1. Introduction
Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) is working in different parts of
Ethiopia.
Oromia is the largest region in Ethiopia by area and population.
Across the region, 27 million people are at risk of contracting
trachoma. In 225 of Oromia’s 265 rural districts, the disease is
endemic. In more than 40% of districts trachoma is hyperendemic and
will require a minimum of five years of intervention to eliminate.
Ophthalmic medical equipments play a great role in order to achieve
such goals. Most of the eye care equipments are very expensive and
need proper handling and maintenance. So training the end user on
proper handling of eye care equipment is the main thing.

Adama Comprehensive Specialized Hospital Medical College
It is a secondary eye care unit having much number of equipments
and staffs. We have seen general care and simple maintenances of
ophthalmic equipments.
Here is end user took the training and session photos, videos during
the training time.
Session photos,videos
2. CHALLENGES
No cleaning solution for glass and mirror to conducting
practical session
No tools specifically allotted for ophthalmic equipment
No training package
3. RECOMMENDATION
It is necessary to fill almost all precondition to do
preventive maintenance and to show end user practical
training like Colin cleaner, specific toolkit for ophthalmic
equipment
There should be a scheduled training for end users
NGO’s like FHF have to communicate biomedical
engineers related to medical equipment

4. CONCLUSIONS
The training was conducted in Adama Comprehensive Specialized Hospital
Medical College. Before starting the training I try to communicate the head
nurse of ophthalmic department. I conduct the training by communicating with
department head and we arranged the training day and informed the staff
together. When I gave the training they told me the challenges they face
specially with lack of eye care instruments due to aging like lens meter.
In general the training was interesting and very important. I want to thank the
FHF for preparing this training and the staff of the three hospitals for their time.
