MORNING PRAYERS

In the name of the Father † and of the Son,

and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
O my God! I adore and love Thee with all
my heart. I return Thee thanks for the
innumerable favors and benefits which I have
received from Thine infinite Goodness and
mercy, especially for having preserved me this
night.
O my God! I offer Thee all mine actions of
this day; grant that whatever I do may be
acceptable to Thee, and direct all, I beseech
Thee, to the honor and glory of the sufferings
of Thy Divine Son in behalf of the souls in
purgatory.
O holy Virgin! I put myself under thy
protection, and beg the help of thy prayers.
2

O my good Angel! Be thou also my

protector, and pray to God for me, that I may
do His holy will in all things.

Act of faith

O MY God, I firmly believe that Thou art

one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son,
and Holy Ghost; I believe that Thy divine Son
became man, and died for our sins, and that He
will come to judge the living and the dead. I
believe these, and all the truths which the holy
Catholic Church teaches, because Thou hast
revealed them, Who canst neither deceive nor
be deceived.

Act of hope
O MY God, relying on Thy infinite power,
goodness, and promises, I hope to obtain the
pardon of my sins, grace to serve Thee in this
world, and life everlasting, through the merits
of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.
3

Act of charity
O MY God, I love Thee above all things,
with my whole heart and soul, because Thou
art infinitely worthy of love. I love my
neighbor as myself for the love of Thee. I
forgive all who have injured me, and ask
pardon of all whom I have injured.

Morning offering of the Apostleship

of prayer

O JESUS, through the immaculate heart of

Mary, I offer Thee my prayers, works, and
suffering of this day for all the intentions of
Thy Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy
Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for
the intentions of all our associates, and in
particular for the intentions recommended this
month by our Holy Father, the Pope.
Memorare to the Blessed Virgin

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin

Mary, that never was it known that anyone
who fled to thy protection, implored thy help,
4

and sought thy intercession, was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee I
come; before thee I stand, sinful and
sorrowful, O Mother of the Word Incarnate!
despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear
and answer me. Amen. Mary, my dearest
Mother, pray to Jesus for me; pray for our
Reverend Mother.

My queen, my Mother!

My Queen, my Mother! I give myself

entirely to thee, and to show my devotion to
thee I consecrate to thee this day, my eyes, my
ears, mouth, my heart my entire self without
reserve. Wherefore, good Mother, as I am
thine own, keep me defend me as thy property
and possession. Amen.

To Angel Guardian

O ANGEL of God, to whose care I am

committed by the Supreme Clemency,
5

illuminate, defend, and govern me this day, in

all my thoughts, words, and actions. Amen.
BLESS us, O Lord, and preserve us from all
evil, and bring us to eternal life; and may the
souls of the faithful departed, through the
mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS
The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus
Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was
conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried. He
descended into hell; the third day He rose
again from the dead; He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father
almighty; from thence He shall come to judge
the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy
Ghost, the holy Catholic Church, the
communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and life
everlasting. Amen
8

The Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be

thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our trespasses as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with

thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and
blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us
sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

The Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to

the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is
now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.
9

The Fatima Prayer

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from

the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven,
especially those most in need of Thy mercy.

ROSARY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN

THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES.

thou gavest unto the world thy only Son, Our

thy sufferings, and yet the comfort of such as
are afflicted, by that unspeakable joy

down in great drops to the ground.

PRAYER
MOST holy Virgin, more than martyr, by
that ardent prayer which thy beloved Son

strength, to follow His footsteps, and to bear

our cross after Him unto the end of our lives.

in the presence of His most afflicted Mother.

PRAYER
O HOLY Mary, Mother of God, as the body
of thy beloved Son was for us stretched on the
cross, so may our desires be daily more and
more extended in His service, and our hearts
wounded with compassion for His most bitter

afflicted, as thy beloved Son, when He

20

Virgin Mary, expecting the fulfillment of His

promise.

Ghost, we beseech thee, obtain by thine

apostles, filling them thereby with spiritual
joy, may teach us in this world the true way of
salvation, and make us walk in the paths of
virtue and good works. Amen,

heavenly palace didst fill the holy angels with

with so ardent a desire of seeing thee so
gloriously crowned, that it may never die in us
until it shall be changed into the happy fruition
of thy blessed sight. Amen.

SALVE REGINA
HAIL, holy Queen! Mother of mercy, our life,
our sweetness, and our hope; to thee do we

our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH

(To be recited after the Rosary either daily or
on the Lord’s Day)

To thee, O blessed St. Joseph, do we have

recourse in our tribulation. Having implored
the help of thy thrice holy Spouse, we now,
with hearts filled with confidence, earnestly
beg thee also to take us under thy protection.
By that charity which united thee to the
Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and that
fatherly love with which thou cherished the
Child Jesus, we humbly beseech thee to
graciously look down upon that inheritance

which Jesus Christ has purchased by His

precious blood and to succor us in our need by
thy power and strength. O most watchful
guardian of the Holy Family, defend the
chosen children of Jesus Christ. O most loving
father, keep us from all contagion of error and
corruption. O most valiant defender, aid us
from on high in this conflict against the
powers of darkness. And as once thou

following thine example and strengthened by
thy help we may live a holy life, die a happy
death, and attain to everlasting bliss in heaven.

Pardon me for the evil I have done this day;

and if I have done any good, deign to accept it.
Watch over me while I take my rest and
deliver me from danger. May Thy grace be
always with me. Amen.

ACT OF CONTRITION

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having

offended thee; and I detest all my sins because
I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell,
but most of all because they offend thee, my
God, who art all good and deserving of all my
love. I firmly resolve, with the help of thy
grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and
to amend my life. Amen

PRAYER BEFORE A CRUCIFIX

BEHOLD, O good and sweetest Jesus, I cast

myself upon my knees in Thy sight, and with
the most fervent desire of my soul I pray and

of amendment: whilst with deep affection and

grief of soul I consider within myself and

Canticle of the B.V.M

(Luke 1, 46-55)
My soul doth magnify the Lord.
And my Spirit hath rejoiced in God my
Saviour .
Because He hath regarded the humility of
His handmaid; behold from henceforth all
generations shall call me blessed.
Because He that is mighty hath done great
things to me; and holy is His name.
And His mercy is from generation unto
generation to them that fear Him. He hath
showed mighty in His arm; he hath scattered
the proud in the conceit of their heart .
He hath put down the mighty from Their
seat; and hath exalted the humble. He hath
filled the hungry with good things; the rich He
Hath sent empty away.
He hath received Israel His servant; being
mindful of His mercy.
35

As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and

to his seed for ever.
Glory be to the Father...

believed; those things shall be accomplished in
thee, that were spoken to thee by the Lord.

DEVOTIONS FOR EACH DAY OF THE

WEEK

(Sunday)
ACT OF CONSECRATION OF THE
FAMILY
TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

This form was approved by St. Pius X on May

19, 1908 and is required as such to gain the
indulgences. Thus, it cannot be modifed. It is
recited kneeling by both the priest and the
family. If a priest is not present, it is led by the
head of the household.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus,/ Who didst make

known to St. Margaret Mary/
Thine ardent desire to reign over Christian
families,/ behold us assembled here today/ to
proclaim Thine absolute dominion/ over our
home.
Henceforth we purpose/ to lead a life like
unto Thine,/ so that amongst us
may flourish/ the virtues for which Thou didst
promise peace on earth,/ and for this end/ we
38

will banish from our midst/ the spirit of the

world/ which Thou dost abhor so much.
Thou wilt reign over our understanding/ by
the simplicity of our faith. Thou wilt reign
over our hearts/ by an ardent love for Thee;/
and may the flame of this love/ be ever kept
burning in our hearts/ by the frequent
reception of the Holy Eucharist.
Deign, O Divine Heart,/ to preside over our
meetings,/ to bless our undertakings, both
spiritual and temporal,/ to banish all worry and
care,/ to
sanctify our joys,/ and soothe our sorrows. If
any of us should ever have/ the misfortune to
grieve/ Thy Sacred Heart, remind him of Thy
goodness and mercy/ towards the repentant
sinner.
Lastly, when the hour of separation will
sound,/ and death will plunge our home into
mourning,/ then shall we all,/ and every one of
us,/ be resigned to Thy eternal decrees,/ and
seek consolation in the thought/ that we shall
one day be reunited in Heaven,/ where we
shall sing the praises and blessings/ of Thy
Sacred Heart for all eternity.
39

May the Immaculate Heart of Mary,/ and the

glorious Patriarch St. Joseph,/ offer Thee this
our Consecration,/ and remind us of the same
all the days of our life.
Glory to the Divine Heart of Jesus,/ our King
and our Father.

ACT OF CONSECRATION OF THE

FAMILY TO
THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

O Immaculate Heart of Mary,/ Mother of the

Heart of Jesus,/ Mother and Queen of our
household,/ that we may fulfll Thy ardent
desire,/ we consecrate ourselves to Thee,/ and
we beseech Thee to reign over our family.
Reign over each one of us,/ and teach us how
to make the Sacred Heart of Thy Divine Son/
reign and triumph in us and about us,/ as He
has reigned and triumphed in Thee.
Reign over us, O Beloved Mother,/ so that
we may be Thine both in prosperity and in
adversity,/ in joy and in sorrow,/ in health and
in sickness,/ in life and in death. O most
compassionate Heart of Mary, Queen of
40

Virgins,/ watch over our souls and our hearts/

and preserve them from the flood of pride,/
impurity,/ and paganism of which Thou hast
complained so bitterly. We desire to do
reparation/ for the numerous crimes
committed/ against Jesus and Thee. We call
upon our home,/ upon the homes of this
country/ and upon those of the entire world,/
the peace of Christ in justice and charity.
Wherefore we promise/ to imitate Thy
virtues,/ by a practical Christian life,/ and by
frequent and fervent Holy Communion,/
regardless of human respect. We come with
confidence to Thee,/ O Throne of Grace and
Mother of Fair Love;/ inflame us with the
same divine fre/ which has inflamed Thine
own Immaculate Heart. Kindle in our earts and
homes,/ the love of purity,/ an ardent zeal for
souls,/ and desire for the holiness of family
life. We accept now,/ all the sacrifices that the
Christian life will impose on us/ and we offer
them to the Heart of Jesus,/ by Thy
Immaculate Heart,/ in a spirit of reparation and
of penance. To the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and
41

Mary/ be love, honor, and glory forever and

ever! Amen.

DEVOUT FOR THE FAITHFUL
DEPARTED

Prayer to be said on Monday.

Ó GOD how of all holiness, infinitely pure
and adorable Being! how great must be Thy
horror of the least stain of sin, since Thou
punishest so rigorously in the flames of purge-
tory the venial faults of those whom Thou so
tenderly lovest. Ah! Mercifully enlighten my
understanding, that the torments Thou
inflictest on the least offence in the other
world, may teach me the enormity of sin, and
penetrate my heart with compassion for those
souls who are now enduring inexpressible
pains for such failings as perhaps I too often
look on as trivial. My God, though Thy justice
banishes them from that kingdom where
nothing defiled can enter, yet surely Thy
mercy has not forgotten them ; no, Thou art
too good, too compassionate to abandon the
42

work of Thine own hands. Though the season

for merit and repentance is now past for them,
yet Thou hast left them a resource in the
prayers of Thy servants on earth. Despise not,
then, O Lord, the supplication which I, Thy
unworthy child, now make for those who can
no longer implore Thy mercy for themselves.
Remember, O infinite Goodness, that they are
all the work of Thy hands, redeemed by the
precious blood of Thine only Son ;consider
that they are the objects of Thine infinite love,
who burn with the most ardent desire to be
united to Thee. Have mercy on them, then, O
infinite Mercy! and for Thine own sake stretch
forth to their relief those sacred hands by
which they were formed, and apply to them
once more the merits of that adorable blood by
which they were redeemed. I most humbly
offer up, to implore this favor, the adorable
sacrifice of the Mass, in union with all the
Masses which will be celebrated throughout,
the world to-day. In union, also, with the
infinite merits of Jesus Christ, I offer all my
prayers, works, and sufferings this day for the
relief of the holy souls. Mercifully accept this
43

oblation, O Lord, on behalf of all who now

suffer in purgatory, particularly those for
whom Thou desirest I should pray those who
are most dear to me those to whose sufferings
I may have been in any respect accessory those
who are most forgotten by others, and who
have no one to pray for them. Give them all
speedy repose and eternal rest, O merciful
Father of all mankind, and give me the grace
to spend this day in such a manner that
through Thy infinite goodness, I may obtain
the relief of these suffering and blessed souls.

DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:

Lord hear my voice.
Let Thy ears be attentive to the voice of my
supplication.
If Thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities; Lord,
who shall stand it?
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and by reason of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.
44

My soul hath relied on His word: my soul hath

hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night, let
Israel hope in the Lord.
Because with the Lord there is mercy: and
with Him plentiful redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel from all his
iniquities.

V. Eternal rest give unto them. O Lord.

R. And let perpetual light shine upon them.
V. From the gate of Hell.
R. Deliver their souls, O Lord.
V. May they rest in peace.
R. Amen.
V. Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.
V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with Thy Spirit.

(50 days three times a day to all who say the

De Profundis with V. and R. "Requiem
aeternam (Eternal Rest)." Leo XIII., Feb. 3,
1888.)
45

LET US PRAY: O God, the Creator and

Redeemer of all the faithful, we beseech Thee
to grant to the Souls of Thy servants the
remission of their sins, so that by our prayers
they may obtain pardon for which they long. O
Lord, Who livest and reignest, world without
end. Amen. May they rest in peace. Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL
FOR PROTECTION

O victorious Prince, most humble guardian

of the Church of God and of faithful souls,
who with such charity and zeal cast Satan and
his fallen angels out of heaven and who is
victorious in all battles for God, protect us in
our battles, for we are continually besieged
with such great perils by our enemies: the
world, the flesh, and the devil. O glorious St.
Michael, who led the people of God through
the desert, so also be our faithful leader and
companion through the desert of this world.
Conduct us safely to the happy land of the
46

living, to that blessed fatherland from which

we are all exiles. Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. GABRIEL THE

ARCHANGEL

Mighty Archangel Gabriel, thou wast chosen

by God to announce the glad tidings of the
Incarnation of the Divine Word. I praise God
for having sent thee with His joyful message to
mankind. Pray for me that I may proclaim thy
message to others and be ready to suffer for
the love of it. Amen.

PRAYER FOR BUSY PEOPLE

Angel St. Raphael, fill my life with happy

meetings. Let each one fulfill the loving
decrees of God’s holy will. St. Raphael,
humanity’s protector, be thou my guide, my
friend, and my director. Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. BENEDICT FOR A

HAPPY DEATH
47

O holy Father, St. Benedict, blessed by God

both in grace and in name, who, while
standing in prayer, with hands raised to
heaven, didst most happily yield thy angelic
spirit into the hands of thy Creator, and hast
promised zealously to defend against all the
snares of the enemy in the last struggle of
death, those who shall daily remind thee of thy
glorious departure and heavenly joys; protect
me, I beseech thee, O glorious Father, this day
and every day, by thy holy blessings, that I
may never be separated from our dear Lord,
from the society of thyself, and of all the
blessed. Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.
St. Benedict himself revealed to St. Gertrude
- also one of the greatest saints in the history
of the Catholic Church, and herself a
Benedictine nun - that "whoever reminds me
of the extraordinary privilege with which God
deigned to glorify my last moments, shall
experience my particular assistance in his final
combat. I will be a faithful protector against
the assaults of the enemy. Fortified by my
48

presence, he will escape the snares of the evil

one and safely attain eternal happiness."

NOVENA PRAYER TO ST. PHILOMENA

O Faithful Virgin and glorious martyr, St.

Philomena, who works so many miracles on
behalf of the poor and sorrowing, have pity on
me. Thou knowest the multitude and diversity
of my needs. Behold me at thy feet, full of
misery, but full of hope. I entreat thy charity,
O great Saint! Graciously hear me and obtain
from God a favorable answer to the request
which I now humbly lay before thee. . . [Here
mention your petition.] I am firmly convinced
that through thy merits, through the scorn, the
sufferings and the death thou didst endure,
united to the merits of the Passion and death of
Jesus, thy Spouse, I shall obtain what I ask of
thee, and in the joy of my heart I will bless
God, who is admirable in His Saints. Amen.

MEMORARE TO ST. JOSEPH

Remember, O amiable and powerful

protector St. Joseph, that whosoever implores
thy intercession with devotion and confidence
obtains relief. Animated by this sweet and
consoling hope, I come to thee, O worthy
spouse of the Virgin of virgins, and prostrate
at thy feet I seek refuge and protection. O thou
who hast borne the glorious title of father of
Jesus, reject not my humble prayer but hear it
favorably and present it for me to Him, who
did not disdain to be called thy son and who
will not refuse thy petition. Most pure heart of
St. Joseph, chaste spouse of the Mother of
God; foster father of her adorable Son;
guardian, confidant, and imitator of both; in
virtue of these illustrious prerogatives and of
the power granted thee on earth and in heaven,
I beseech thee to obtain for me a heart
resembling thine in its silence, meekness,
humility, charity, obedience, and chastity. O
heart of St. Joseph, deign to watch over me, to
assist me every day of my life, and to obtain
50

for me the great grace to die like unto thee in

the arms of Jesus and Mary. Amen.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO ST. JOSEPH

O blessed St. Joseph, I consecrate myself to

thy honor and give myself to thee that thou
mayest always be my father, my protector, and
my guide in the way of salvation. Obtain for
me a great purity of heart and a fervent love of
the interior life. Following thy example, may I
do all my actions for the greater glory of God,
in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus and the
Immaculate Heart of Mary. And do thou, O
blessed St. Joseph, pray for me that I may
share in the peace and joy of thy holy death.
Amen.

CHILDREN'S PRAYERS FOR

THEIR PARENTS

Almighty and Everlasting God, in the secret

counsels of Thy loving Providence, Thou hast
called us into life by means of our parents who
thereby share in Thy Divine power. Mercifully
51

hear the prayer of childlike love which we

offer to Thee for those with whom Thou hast
shared Thy fatherly kindness, that they might
lavish upon us throughout the years the
consoling gift of Thy holy and generous love.
Dear Lord, fill our parents with Thy choicest
blessings and enrich their souls with Thy holy
grace. Grant that they may faithfully and
constantly guard that likeness to Thy spiritual
union with Thy Church, which Thou hast
imprinted upon them on their wedding day.
Fill them with Thy spirit of holy fear, which is
the beginning of wisdom, and enable them to
impart it always to their children. Thus may
they ever walk in the way of Thy
commandments; and may their children be
their joy in this earthly exile and their crown
of glory in their heavenly home.
Finally, Lord God, grant that both our father
and our mother may reach a ripe old age and
enjoy continuous health in mind and body.
May they deserve to sing Thy praises forever
in our heavenly homeland together with us,
their children. May they give Thee abundant
thanks for having bestowed upon them in this
52

valley of tears the great privilege of sharing in

Thine infinite fruitfulness and Thy Divine
fatherhood. Amen.

(Thursday)
PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH

O Holy Spirit, Creator, Spouse of Mary, be

gracious to Thy Catholic Church. By Thy
Heavenly Power, make it strong and secure
against the attacks of its enemies, within and
without. Renew in charity and grace the spirit
of Thy servants, whom Thou has anointed that
they may glorify Thee and the Father, and His
only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
Mary Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God
and our Mother, Thou seest how the Catholic
Faith is assailed by the devil and the world,
that Faith in which we propose, by the help of
God, to live and die. To Thee we entrust our
firm purpose of never joining assemblies of
heretics or secret societies. Do Thou, All Holy
Virgin Mother of God, offer to Thy Divine
Son our resolutions and obtain from Him the
53

graces necessary for us to keep them unto the

end. Amen.
Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us.

PRAYER FOR THE HOLY FATHER

Let us pray for our Holy Father, Pope Name

_____________________.
May the Lord preserve him and give him life
and make him to be blessed upon the earth and
deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.

PRAYER FOR BISHOPS AND PRIESTS

Sacred Heart of Jesus, Divine and Eternal

High Priest, let the life-giving waters of Thy
love flow into the hearts of Thy Bishops and
Priests and transform them into living images
of Thee. By Thy grace make them true
apostles of Thy Sacred Heart.
Save souls through Thy Bishops and Priests;
accompany them through life. Give them the
special grace of drawing sinners to Thy Sacred
Heart, Refuge of sinners, that they may find
forgiveness and salvation.
54

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I pray for the

fulfillment of this promise which Thou didst
make to Saint Margaret Mary: “I will give to
priests the gift of touching the most hardened
hearts.” May Thy Kingdom come to the hearts
of men through the activity of truly saintly
Bishops and Priests.
Do Thou, O Mary, Mother of the High
Priest, protect all Bishops and Priests from
dangers to their holy vocations. May Thy
Immaculate Heart be their refuge and
consolation during temptations, trials and
loneliness, that we may soon see “all things
restored in Christ.”
We know that to combat the spiritual terror
assailing Holy Mother Church in our time, the
Incarnate Wisdom sent the Immaculate Heart
of Mary to Fatima to help us, counsel us,
enlighten us, and protect all the faithful of
Jesus Christ, so that we could save our own
soul and the souls of those that God puts on
our path.
We acknowledge that the Blessed Virgin
also gave a most important request to the Pope
and the Bishops to solemnly and publicly, on
55

the same day, consecrate specifically Russia

to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We pray that
they all will receive the necessary grace to do
this duty soon, so that we can attain worldwide
peace and the salvation of billions of souls
now. Amen.
Jesus, Savior of the world, sanctify Thy
priests and sacred ministers.
Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for them
and for us;
Obtain for us many and holy Bishops and
Priests.

ACT OF REPARATION TO THE SACRED

HEART.

O Sacred-Heart of my Living Saviour, how

sensible to our miseries has thy charity
rendered thee! O my God, what goodness for
thee to place thyself a victim for us in the most
adorable Eucharist! And yet what dost thou
see in the hearts of the greater part of mankind
but rebellion against thy will and ingratitude
for thy benefits, was it not enough, O my
Jesus, to have abandoned thyself to a cruel
56

agony in the Garden of Olives, when thou

didst bear the weight of all our sins? Was it not
enough to have bought our souls at the price of
thy blood and thy death? Was it necessary that
thy ungrateful and perfidious children should
dare each day to renew the torments which
thou didst endure in the course of thy passion,
and by fresh wounds to tear open thy Sacred-
Heart? Where can we find hearts so hard, that
they are not touched at the sight of the
outrages inflicted on thee? Prostrate and
annihilated before thee, O my Redeemer,
permit me this day to make thee some
reparation for all the injuries with which men
do not cease to load thee, and for all the
bitterness in which thy Divine Heart is
immersed. I wish I could water and purify with
my tears all those places where thou are most
offended, and by my sentiments of burning
love, repair the abuse and contempt which is
shown of thy graces by the scandals,
profanations, and sacrileges that are committed
among thy children. Would that I had
possession of all hearts, to offer them to thee
in sacrifice, and to console thee by this
57

homage for the guilty insensibility of those

who will not know thee, or who, knowing
thee, have not loved thee. At least, O Lord, I
offer thee myself ; immolate me, consume me
as thy victim, grant that I may now begin to
love thee alone, and that after having once
consecrated my heart to thee, I may never take
it back again ; grant that I may find in thy
heart an asylum in this world, peace at the
hour of death, and my blessedness for all
eternity. O Heart of Jesus, mayst thou be
known, praised, adored, and loved by all
creatures throughout the universe, now and for
ever, Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE CONVERSION OF

SINNERS

O LORD Jesus, most merciful Saviour of the

world, we beg and beseech Thee, through Thy
most sacred Heart, that all wandering sheep
may now return to Thee, the Shepherd and
Bishop of their souls. Who livest and reignest
with God the Father and the Holy Spirit, God
forever and ever. Amen.
58

ACT OF REPARATION TO THE

IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

O Heart of Mary, I honor Thee as the Heart

most pleasing to Our Lord and most intimately
united to Him. I love Thee as the Heart of the
best of mothers and I rejoice in Thy glorious
prerogative. Prostrate before Thee, O Heart of
Mary, make Thou this humble act of
reparation for all the outrages Thou hast
received from me and all mankind I humbly
confess that I have been guilty of the greatest
ingratitude towards Thee, but seeing that
through Thee, the divine mercy has so often
had regard unto me, I venture even yet to hope
that Thou wilt not abandon me. In this sweet
confidence I am animated by a most earnest
desire to be more faithful and more devoted to
Thee I pray Thee to accept all the good that
henceforth I am resolved to do, to present it to
Thy Son Jesus, so that, through Thee, my most
loving Saviour may pour down His
benedictions more and more on me and on all
who are dear unto me. Amen.
