As you are already aware, one of the biggest advantages of the Private Cloud Edition contract is SAP taking care of the technical upgrade of an SAP Software.
Before requesting the technical upgrade execution via Service Request, customer needs to start Upgrade preparation by completing the activities listed below:

How to request a technical upgrade?

Get support to plan and coordinate your Upgrade
How to acquire a CAS Package for Release Version Upgrade

Customer can choose to delegate to SAP the Upgrade planning & coordination, pre and post Upgrade tasks by acquiring an
optional CAS package.
As per Roles & Responsibilities this service can be performed by customer, but the customer may elect to have SAP
to deliver. CAS is subject to additional service fees as agreed in a customer’s contract.

Services are part of Release Version Upgrade package and scope consists in:

SAP S/4HANA Upgrade Services
POST UPGRADE ACTIVITIES

Responsibility: Customer or can be delegated to SAP with optional CAS Package*


In this phase, all technical validations and adjustments may need to be done after the technical upgrade is completed.
• Unlock technical users and verify they have access
Customer unlocks technical users. At this point, customer only need to unlock the technical users (Basis, ABAP, Security) who will support in the post upgrade activities
(roles/authorizations adjustments, custom code remediation, etc.)

• SPDD/SPAU adjustments
Customer or if there is a CAS Basis consultant involved (CAS package), he/she starts this activity and after is completed in SAP side, Customer/Partner Basis and
ABAP can proceed with the adjustments in their side.

• Re-create missing CDS views/tables


Customer/Partner Basis should run RUTDDLSACT and RUTCNVFUNCCRE1 in order to re create any missing CDS views or tables, if needed.

• Verify all Interfaces / Batch jobs / switched back ON for all clients
Customer/Partner Basis and ABAP execute these tasks to “re-connect” the S/4Hana and Fiori systems to the hole landscape.

• Default Authorization Values and PFCG Roles (SU22, SU24)


Customer/Partner needs to validate all active/valid user profiles that need to be updated (add authorizations /remove authorizations) according to the new version of
S/4Hana and Fiori systems.

• Fiori Reactivation (Content: Fiori APPs of Setup)


Customer/Partner Basis may validate all Fiori apps they have configured. There is a risk that in higher releases Fiori apps are no longer supported or no longer
available. So, it's important to identify any delta Fiori Usage to activate the required content: Fiori APPs of Setup.

• Handover system for testing


Once all post upgrade activities are completed. Customer/Partner to proceed with the functional validations in their side.

POST UPGRADE ACTIVITIES

TESTING – Functional validations

Be aware SAP ECS does not need to follow up in detail these activities, this section is totally Customer /Partner responsibility.

• SAP is responsible for the technical upgrade (to bring all SAP objects to the target version), and Customer/Partner is
responsible to validate all business scenarios keep working as expected once the technical upgrade is completed.

• If any issues during the functional validations, Customer/Partner functional team is responsible to do adjustments in the
configurations as needed it.

• In case of any issue (related to the application, not to the configuration), Customer/Partner needs to raise a ticket to SAP
Product Support to assist here.
