Our school holidays
Luis
I went on a beach holiday with my parents and sister. I
sometimes think it’s boring doing sports, like playing tennis
with her during term time because she’s younger than me. But
we all went surfing together every day like we did last year,
which was fun. I met a boy there, who was really nice and we
did some cool stuff together. I see him a lot now I’m home
because he lives quite near me.
Petro
I really wanted to go on holiday with my parents this year.
They were busy with work, so instead a friend and I joined a
holiday club. I didn’t enjoy it much because the activities
weren’t very interesting – most of them were for younger kids.
But I played badminton for the first time, which was great. Next
summer, I’d really love to have a holiday in a big city like Paris
and go sightseeing there.
Evan
My parents said I could visit my friend Jake, who moved to
New York last year. We visited all the famous places there
together – it was fantastic! And we both enjoy skateboarding,
so we went to different parks and practised some new
skateboarding jumps. I really wanted to meet his best friend –
he was away, unfortunately. And I missed my parents
sometimes, but it was a good holiday.

Questions 30–34
Read the text and questions below.
For each question, circle the correct letter A, B or C.
An interview with 23-year-old Ellie Beaumont,
who visited every country in the world!
by Jake Miller, aged 9
How long does it take to visit all the countries in the world?
I know people who’ve completed this journey in three years. It took me five years
to save enough money to do a four-year journey around the world.
What did you do before visiting a new country?
I booked flights, but I didn’t plan every moment of the trip. I loved discovering
new places and learning the language while I was there. But I always took a
good book with me, so I had something to do.
What did you do when you first arrived?
In every country, I went on foot to explore a new city – often for several hours! I
did that before anything else. Then I usually found somewhere nice to eat. It’s a
brilliant way to meet and talk to the people there.
Which place did you most enjoy visiting?
Well, I had a great time at Bondi Beach in Australia. Spending time in the
Amazon Rainforest was amazing! That was the best experience, but travelling
across the Sahara Desert was really cool too.
What will you do next?
During the trip, I wrote a blog and even made a short film about my journey. And
I think it was good because a museum wants my advice on what to include in a
travel exhibition they’re putting on. I’m really pleased!
