Instructions:

Forum: 20 %

The task is assessed to address the following Learning Objective:

LO1 - Share ideas verbally with fluency, accuracy and spontaneity while adopting a level of formality appropriate to academic or workplace setting. (A3)

● Group task (4-5 students in a group).

● Students will do a forum discussing on a given topic in 15 - 25 minutes.

● The forum will be conducted in-class.

● Students will hold different roles in the forum (a moderator and few panellists).

● Reading from a script is not allowed and marks will be deducted for that.

● Speakers may use visual aids to support their points during the forum, but not texts.

● There will be a question-and-answer session at the end of the forum.

● Marks will be given based on criteria in the rubric.

Listening Task (online): 20 %

The task is assessed to address the following Learning Objective:


LO2 - Interpret extended speeches and texts on abstract and complex topics which are familiar or unfamiliar to students’ interests to identify the language forms

and functions and obtain implicit and explicit details. (C6)

● Individual online task - 1 hour 15 minutes

● Students will listen to audio recordings and answer the questions in a given time.

● Students will submit their answers via various types of platforms such as e-mail,

MyGuru, Google Classroom, WhatsApp, or Telegram as discussed and agreed by the

instructor.

Writing Task: 30 %

The task is assessed to address the following Learning Objective:


LO3 - Write clear, detailed and well-structured texts on familiar and unfamiliar range of subjects appropriate to academic or workplace setting by expanding and
supporting points of view at some length with relevant and significant details. (A2)
Task 1: Cover Letter & E-resume [online] (10%)

● Individual task
● Students are required to submit a cover letter, e-résumé and a copy of a job

advertisement.
● Submission will be via a platform such as e-mail, MyGuru, Google Classroom,

WhatsApp, or Telegram as discussed and agreed by the instructor.


● Marks will be given based on criteria in the rubric.

Task 2: Essay Writing (20%)

● Individual task (in-class) - 2 hours


● Students are required to write an argumentative essay in not less than 350 words.
● Plagiarised work will be heavily penalised.

● Students will submit their essay in-class, on a piece of paper.

● Marks will be given based on criteria in the rubric.

Final Examination: 30%

The task is assessed to address the following Learning Objective:


LO2 - Interpret extended speeches and texts on abstract and complex topics which are familiar or unfamiliar to students’ interests to identify the language forms

and functions and obtain implicit and explicit details. (C6)

● The paper consists of three reading comprehension passages with 30 multiple-choice

questions (MCQ).
● The duration of the assessment is one hour and thirty minutes. (1 hour 30 minutes).

● The final examination will be conducted in the exam hall.
