【原文】W: Hello everyone in my class presentation today I’d like to talk about a famous poet she is my Angelo.
Her childhood was filled with many challenges. When Maya was just eight years old she faced a terrible event that
made her unable to speak for five years. During this time she found comfort in reading books and writing in her
journal. Maya eventually found her voice again and discovered the power of words. She wanted to use her voice to
make others think and bring hope to others. So she started her journey as a poet. Her poems often talked about love
hope and the strength of the human spirit. One of them is still I rise. It’s a powerful piece about overcoming
difficulties no matter what challenges you face another well-known poem is phenomenal woman which is about the
power of being a woman. Maya also wrote books and poems that were specially created for younger readers. One
of her children’s books life doesn’t frighten me combines her poetry with paintings by a famous artist. This book
encourages kids to face their fears and believe in themselves. So if you’re interested in her poems please find some
to read.

In Belgium, a company called HydroVolta is improving ways to take salt water and turn it into fresh water
The vast majority of the earth’s water is salt water. Only 3% is fresh water and less than one third of that is
accessible, the rest being locked away in glaciers and groundwater. “We will need to treat salt water so people can

Energy use in this field depends on pressure, which is measured in a metric unit known as bar. Existing

three bar. What’s even better is that a greater amount of fresh water can now be generated. “Existing technologies

Ancient humans were hunter-gatherers. They followed herds of animals on the hunt and gathered eatable
plants as well. Starting around 10,000 years ago, humans in a handful of regions around the world discovered
agriculture. People discovered that certain seeds could be planted and crops could be reliably grown. It is
impossible to overstate how important the change was. Some time after that, people in the same regions began to
domesticate animals, keeping cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats in controlled conditions, eating them and using their
hides.
Even fairly primitive agriculture can produce fifty times more caloric energy than hunting and gathering
does. The very basis of human life is how much energy we can gain from food; with agriculture and animal
domestication, it was possible for families to grow much larger and overall population levels to rise dramatically.
One of the noteworthy aspects of this change is that hunter-gatherers actually had much more leisure time
than farmers did. Archaeologists ( 考古学家 ) have determined that hunter-gatherers generally only“worked”for a
few hours a day, and spent the rest of their time in leisure activities. Meanwhile, farmers always worked incredibly
hard for very long hours. In many places in the ancient world, there were groups of people who remained hunter-
gatherers despite knowing about agriculture, and it was quite possible they did that because they saw no particular
advantage in adopting agriculture. There were also many areas that practiced both—right up until the modern time,
Agriculture was developed in a few different places completely independently. According to archaeological
evidence, agriculture did not start in one place and then spread; it started in a few distinct areas and then spread
from those areas, sometimes meeting in the middle. For example, agriculture developed independently in China by
5000 BCE, and of course agriculture in the Americas (starting in western South America) had nothing to do with its

Johnny and his two younger sisters were very poor. They lived in a very old block of flats in the crowded
part of the city. They had no father. Their mother went to work from morning till late evening, as a cleaning lady in
many rich houses. Therefore, Johnny had to stay at home and look after his sisters.
Sometimes on a sunny day,he would take them to the nearby park. He had to be very careful when they
crossed roads. Not having any pocket money, they could not buy chips or drinks. They had to be satisfied with
One day, after they had finished their sandwiches, Johnny’s youngest sister Mary looked at other well-dressed
children nearby, who seemed to be on a picnic with their parents, eating all kinds of chips, cakes and many other
goodies. Mary’s mouth was watering, and very much more, when their parents brought each of the five children
huge ice-cream cones from the ice cream trundle cart ( 移动贩卖车 ) nearby. “I wish we had some money to buy
cones,” she said eagerly. Johnny looked at her with sadness in his eyes. “You know we don’t have money for these
There was silence after that. As the children sat with sad faces, the ice cream man went past them with his

【答案】He did not see the cart coming downhill, but Johnny did. In a flash, Johnny ran in front of the speeding
cart, and pushed the little boy over to the side of the grassy hill. The little boy was safe. But he was scared, and
unaware of what had happened, except that this big boy pushed him to safety. Big tears rolled down his cheeks as
he slowly sat up, and he began to cry loudly more through fear than being hurt. The trundle cart passed by, and
finally, the ice cream man stopped it at the bottom of the hill.
Hearing the screams of the child, the anxious parents came running over. The mother hugged her son close,
and comforted him with “It’s OK, Bob? You are all safe with Mummy.” The sobs stopped. While some other people
gathered around, the ice cream man pushed his way in gently. He said, “I’m sorry, ma’am. I did not notice your son.
But if it wasn’t for this big boy here, he might have been badly hurt.” “Brave big boy, thank you so much,” the
father said to Johnny. The crowd burst into applause for the brave boy.
