METHOD STATEMENT FOR STEEL SHORING FOR EXCAVATION

WORKS UP TO 2M DEEP

SITE: Proposed Multi Purpose Building Extension for ATG Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd at Katunayaka

TASK: Shoring for Excavation for column bases.

METHOD:
 Provide and drive 100x50mm H iron sections into the soil at 600mm intervals along the edges
of the column base.
 Install 6mm thick ms plate between the H irons along the perimeter of the base.
 Excavate column pit up to 300mm depth from the top and drive the designed steel shoring
900mm deep.
 Excavate further in 300mm layers and drive the shoring system below the excavated depth.
 Provide horizontal bracing with 2.0mm heavy duty GI at 600 mm spacing.

PLANT AND EQUIPMENT

1. Excavator.
2. Ladders.
3. 100x50mm H iron sections.
4. 2.0mm GI pipe.
5. 6mm thick MS plates.

CONTROL:

The works will be carried out by experienced operatives who will be supervised during the
whole of the works. Only experienced- trained operatives will operate the plant and
equipment. All personnel within the work area will wear the appropriate PPE. All
excavations will be fenced off if unattended at any time.

GENERAL

The shoring is to be maintained during all excavation and concreting works related to the column
bases. The shoring can only be dismantled along with backfilling and its subsequent completion.
Any water ingress ground or storm to be promptly removed during the shoring.
