Lima - Isolation and Characterizaton of Edwardsiella Tarda From Pacu Myleus Micans

The document discusses a study that investigated the causes of fish mortality in the São Francisco river basin in Brazil in January 2005. Edwardsiella tarda was isolated from the kidneys of pacu fish. The isolate, called Et-LIS, was identified through biochemical tests and confirmed with a commercial test kit. Virulence characteristics were evaluated by experimentally infecting tilapia and carp fish, which displayed compatible infection signs. Tilapia died within 48 hours of inoculation while carp survived for 72 hours. This is the first report of E. tarda occurrence in pacu fish.

As tilápias (Oreochromis spp.) morreram
