RESEARCH PROPOSAL
II. RATIONALE
The covid-19 pandemic greatly affected the reading abilities of the learners
hence the project READ was created. This project aims to provide interventions for
children to develop their reading skills and love for reading.
Assessment was done to find out the levels of every learner in reading.
Reading materials were selected and printed based on the levels of the learners. A
reading corner was also put up.
After class hours in the morning and in the afternoon, a group of pupils based
on their reading level was contained for reading remediation. Reading was done by
group, by twos and by individual. Reading materials were also brought home by
learners, parents and knowledgeable others assisted them in reading. Checklist in
reading was provided to find out whether the assigned reading materials were read
or not.
Some parents don’t cooperate due to overworked in the farm hence they have
no time to follow up their children. There are illiterate parents and no knowledgeable
other in their homes. Learners are hesitant to stay after class hours they want to play
instead.
No evaluation done to gauge how well the kindergarten pupils are in phonics
awareness.
Thus, the proponent formulated a workplan entitled Project Read( Readers
Excel to Achieve Development) which will be focusing on phonics awareness this
vacation time through Parent- Pupil Guided Reading tandem strategy.
III. PLAN OF ACTION
A. Objectives of the Project
The goal of Project READ is to provide reading intervention to the
kindergarten pupils to enhance their alphabet knowledge and preparation of their
reading readiness in Grade I. They will be assisted by their parents, siblings, or any
knowledgeable others in their home.
Specifically, the program aims to:
1. provide reading intervention to the Kindergarten pupils during this pandemic;
2. make every Kindergarten pupil an independent reader (Alphabet and
Sounds);
3. develop the love for reading among the Kindergarten pupils
B. Time Frame
The pupils will be given a copy of the alphabet for the first two weeks of
August then to be retrieved on the 3rd week (Monday). The teacher will make an
assessment
via virtual platform to identify the mastery of the learners. On the 4 th week, the
teacher will give a copy of the letters which was not mastered by the pupils. In case,
that a pupil already mastered the letter and the letter sound of the alphabet, a CVC
words will be given to those pupils.
Monitoring will be conducted every Friday of the week through any of the
following platforms; phone calls, SMS, video calls, and home visitation if possible.
In a week, 4 letters of the Alphabet will be given to the pupils to master the
name and sound of the letter. Aside from identifying and sounding, they will be
provided blending syllables as engaging activities that will enrich their vocabulary
and reading skills. Letters will just be replaced after the pupils mastered the first
reading material given to them. A reading logbook will be used to keep and track
their reading progress.
The distribution of the reading materials will be given every Monday of the
week. Monitoring will be every Friday of the week through any of these; phone calls,
SMS, video calls, or home visitation if possible. Parents will be informed and oriented
in the conduct of the program to help the proponent facilitate the reading process
