1.3 Overview of the central monitoring system

The central monitoring system is connected to the bedside monitors or telemetry monitors
(hereinafter referred to as bedside monitors) by wired and wireless LAN connections. It can be connected
to at most 128 monitors and monitor the physiological parameters of 128 patients such as ECG, pulse
oxygen saturation, respiration, biphasic body temperature, noninvasive blood pressure, pulse rate,
double-invasive blood pressure, end-tidal carbon dioxide, the fetal heart rate, TOCO and fetal movements.
It can also display the waveforms of the patient's ECG, respiration, and pulse oximetry. With the central
monitoring system, the operator can put a certain patient into intensive monitoring, observe the trends of
the physiological parameters of this patient and realize actual bidirectional operation to operate the bedside
monitors, such as measuring the patient's blood pressure, sending medical records and setting parameters.
Stored information of specific cases can provide basis and references for future treatments. The system has
audible and visual alarms. It can review and print the medical histories of the current and past patients in
custody, such as the output waveforms of the real-time monitoring, reviews of various parameter trends,
alarm lists and recalled waveforms.

then click [OK] key.

 Set the filtering mode

Set the filtering mode by the radio button in front of [Diag] (Diagnosis), [Monitor] (Monitoring),
[Surgery] and [Extend] (Extension). After the setting is completed, click [OK] key. This feature is only
available for ECG.

You can get a cleaner or more accurate waveform by filtering. There four kinds of filtering modes.
The [Diag] method shows unfiltered ECG wave; the [Monitor] method may filter out the artifacts which
may trigger false alarms; the [Surgery] method can reduce the artifacts and interferes from electrical
surgery equipment in the surgery room.

The [Extend] filtering mode is intended to perform more accurate ST segment measurement for the
patient. The frequency response range of this mode is 0.05Hz-40hz, the good expansibility of low
frequency band ensures the undistorted reflection of the measured ST segment, and the effective filtering
of high-frequency interfering signals above 40hz including the power frequency interference. In this mode,
the users can get more accurate ST segment results of the patient by adjusting the position of the ST
segment analysis point.

When the bedside monitor is a Protocol 1 monitor, the "Extension" option will become gray and
inactive; when the bedside monitor is a telemetry monitor, the "Diagnosis" option will become grey and
inactive. For Protocol 2 monitor, the four options are all available.

 [NOTCH] (Power frequency notch filter)

Notch filter is intended to suppress the 50/60 Hz signals in the collected signals. When there are many
waveform jittering (e.g. the waveform has burrs), set it to 50Hz and 60Hz to perform filtering at the power
supply frequency. Set it to OFF to disable filtering. It cannot be set to "OFF" for the telemetry monitor.
 [Gain Set] (Gain settings)
Intended for amplitude adjustment of the ECG waveform, it can be set to × 0.25, × 0.5, × 1, and × 2. This
feature is only available for ECG.
 [NIBP Measure Mode]
There are manual mode and auto mode: the time intervals for auto mode are 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, 4 min, 5
min, 10 min, 15 min, 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 120 min, 180 min, 240 min and 480 min. After the setting is
completed, click [OK] key.
 [Alarm Pause Time]
Set the Alarm Pause Time of the current monitor: Always, 1 to 10 min. After the setting is completed, click
[OK] key.

Chapter 5 Patient management

After the bedside monitor is connected to the central monitoring system network properly, the central
monitoring system will receive information from the bedside monitor automatically. If there is no patient
under monitoring for the time being, there will be no patient information displayed; if the bedside monitor
starts to monitor the patient, then the on-site bed zone of the central monitoring system will display the
relevant information of the patient automatically, such as waveforms and parameters. Click the on-site bed
to open real-time monitoring window, in which the basic information of the patient will be shown in the
multi-page [Patient Info] (Patient information), while in the [Patients] (Patient management) interface, the
patient information will be displayed in the patient list of the "Online monitoring" page automatically.
The patient management interface consists of Online, Offline and No Attribution pages.
Our monitors are using two network protocols. Some monitors use protocol 1, and others use protocol
2. The central monitoring system is fully compatible with both protocols.
 Protocol 1: There is no waiting to admit the patient, the central unit can display the waveforms
and parameters of the patient as soon as the monitor starts monitoring the patient and it will
merge the patient with the offline patient with the same network bed number while replacing the
offline patient information with the current received information.
 Protocol 2: After the monitor is connected successfully with the central unit network, the central
unit can only display the monitoring waveforms and parameters of the patient after admitting this
patient. If no patient is admitted, the central unit will prompt "The network is connected, please
admit the patient" in the bed zone and enter the "Waiting for admitting" status. In the course of
admitting patient, if both the medical record number of this patient and that of the offline patient
are not empty, the two numbers will be compared: if they are equal, treat the patient as the same
patient with a different monitoring period, otherwise the offline patient will be released
automatically and the system will connect the network again; if the two numbers are all empty,
the system will find out whether the name of this patient and that of the offline patient are empty:
if the answer is Yes, the offline patient will be released and the system will connect the network
again; if one of them is not empty, the patient shall be treated as the same person if the two
names are the same, otherwise the offline patient will be released and the system will connect the
network again. That is, when admitting a patient, the system will judge whether the patient is the
same person as the former one according to the patient's medical record number and then the
patient name. The information will be merged if the patients are the same; otherwise the former
patient will be released automatically before this patient is put under monitoring.

5.1 Changing Patient Information

There are two ways of changing patient information:

 Change it on the bedside monitor; please refer to the User Manual of the monitor for detailed
information;
 Change it in the central monitoring system and click [Save] button.
When the network connection is normal, if the patient information is changed on the bedside monitor
or in the central monitoring system, the other side will be notified to change the information at the same
time in order to ensure that the patient information on the central monitoring system and the monitor are
consistent.

5.1.1 Enter and modify the patient information

To select a patient, for the patient in the on-site bed zone, click the on-site bed corresponding to the
patient; for patient in the off-site bed zone, click the bed number. Click [Patient Info] page in the pop-up
multiple pages.
In this page, you can input or change the following patient information:

Patient management

 Result of diagnosis: The diagnostic results of the patient;

 Physician Order: The doctor's advices for the patient.
After modifying the patient information, click [Save] button and the central monitoring system will
notify the bedside monitor to make the appropriate changes.
If the bedside monitor is not connected to the network, the central monitoring system will not notify
the monitor to make the appropriate changes after modifying the patient information, and the changes will
be directly stored in the offline temporary patient list of the "Patient management" screen. When the
bedside monitor is connected to the central monitoring system again, the patient information on the bedside
monitor will be directly uploaded to the central monitoring system, and the patient information modified in
the central monitoring system will not be in conflict with the information in the bedside monitor.

Note
 When the patient information is changed in the central monitoring system, the patient
information in the bedside monitor will be changed as well.
 The corresponding parameter threshold varies for different patient types. The user must
confirm the patient type before admitting a patient. For the parameter ranges for different
patient types, please refer to the User Manual of the corresponding bedside monitor.
 Confirm the height and weight of the patient before modifying the patient information in the
central monitoring system.

5.1.2 Release patient

Releasing the patient is to end the monitoring of a certain patient to admit a new patient, and the
patient information in the bedside monitor adopting protocol 1 will be cleared after the central monitoring
system releasing the patient, the bedside monitor adopting protocol 2 will release the patient at the same
time.
For the telemetry monitor, releasing the patient can only be done in the central monitoring system.
The procedure of releasing the patient:
 Click the bed in the on-site bed zone or bed number in the off-site bed zone to enter the real-time
monitoring page. Click [Patient Info] page in the real-time monitoring screen, or click the
drop-down menu on the upper left corner of the on-site bed zone directly to enter the "Patient
information" page.

5.1.3 Patient transfer

Patient transferring means moving the patient from one bed (original bed) to another one (specified
bed) during the course of patient monitoring. As the monitoring will be temperately interrupted, the central
monitoring system provides the "Patient transfer" function to directly transfer the patient information and
monitoring data in order to ensure the patient data continuity between the specified bed and the original
bed. Specific steps are as follows:
a) If the patient on the original bed is not released, click the drop-down menu in the on-site bed
zone and select [Transfer], or right click the off-site bed to select [Transfer] in the pop-up list
box;
b) Select the specified bed number to transfer to;
c) The system prompts "Sure to transfer the patient?";
Select [Yes], then it prompts "The current operation is going to interrupt the monitoring",
 Select [OK]: for a protocol 2 monitor used as the bedside monitor, the transfer will
begin and the original bed goes into the status of waiting for a patient; the target bed
will display the patient name. When the patient is admitted into the target bed if the
bedside monitor is connected to the central unit, the patient information will be merged
if the current medical record number and name are consistent with those of the
transferred patient; if not, the information will be filed to the "Historical patient" and a
new medical record will be generated. For the protocol 1 monitor used as the bedside
monitor, the patient information will be merged directly.
 [Cancel], it will return to the original status;
Select [No], it will return to the original status.

Note
 Make sure the patient information and medical record numbers of the original bed and the
specified bed are the same before merging the data; otherwise the system will file the patient of
the specified bed to "Historical patient" automatically and then admit the new patient.

5.1.4 Switch patient

"Switch patient" is to switch the active bed number to another specified bed number. Specific steps are as
follows:
 For the patients in the on-site bed area, click [Switch to] in the menu bar and select the specified

Patient management

 If the monitor does not release the patient, once the monitor is disconnected from the network or
restarted, the patient's information will be automatically saved to the offline page. When
re-monitoring the patients, protocol 1 bedside monitor will incorporate the offline information
into the same patient's of online monitoring list; if you click the patient's information, you can
see information about the monitoring time periods; When protocol 2 bedside monitor starts
monitoring patients, the system will compare the medical record numbers and patient name to
judge whether they are the same; if yes, it will merge the information, otherwise it will
automatically release the offline patient and begin monitoring the new patient.
 Among patients in the offline page, if one's information is incomplete (without medical record no.
and patient name), his file will be archived to no-attribution page when releasing the patient.

5.2.1 Online Patient Information

Online patient information cannot be deleted. Patients list in the online page can be automatically
received by the central monitoring system. Click [Refresh] button and the current online patient
information will be displayed in the patient list.
If one patient has several monitoring time periods before releasing, directly click on the online patient
and the information of the monitoring time periods will be displayed in monitoring period list. When the
patient is released, the system directly enters the history review zone. The same patient will have the same
pieces of information in the history review zone as he/she does in monitoring period list.

Note
 Online patient’s information cannot be deleted. To delete such information, it must either be
disconnected, or archived to the offline patient list or no-attribution patients. In addition, you
need to input password to delete patient information.

5.2.2 Offline Patient information

In case that the online patient is not yet released and the bedside monitor is disconnected with the
network or powered off, the patient information will be automatically saved in patient list in the offline
page. It will prompt "Patient Disconnected" for this on-site bed in the central monitoring system. When
patient monitoring is resumed, the information in the offline page will be automatically merged to the
patient information in the online page, but different time periods will be displayed. In the offline page, you
can delete patient information but you will be required to input the password.

Waveform Description Zone

Waveform description zone mainly describes the color of the parameter waveform and the
information of waveform displaying length.
For example: "5 min 20 sec/20 min, 1/4" indicates: the waveform duration in the non-compressed
waveform zone on this page/ the total duration selected in the waveform zone/ the current page number/the
number of total pages.

6-3
Data review and management

Compressed Waveform Zone

In the compressed waveform zone, each line can display 10-min waveform and one page can display

one-hour waveform. When the monitoring time is more than one hour, use buttons to move up/

down. Use or to jump to the initial or last page. Below the waveform in each line, there is

indication of the monitoring time and the waveform number.

Non-compressed Waveform Zone
In the non-compressed waveform zone, user can observe the size of the waveform through the [Speed]
(Speed option).
 [1cm/min]: 1 cm of the grid displays 1-min waveform;
 [2cm/min]: 2cm of the grid displays 1-min waveform;
 [3cm/min]: 3 cm of the grid displays 1-min waveform; this waveform is the largest.
 [Self Adapt]: It indicates that the waveform selected in the compressed waveform zone is
shown in one page, and the page turning function will be disabled.
Scoring zone
In the scoring zone, it mainly functions to automatically diagnose and score the waveform selected in
the compressed waveform zone and the scoring results will be displayed in the standard list on the left of
the scoring zone. Where
[Score Type] (Scoring Type) is to select from scoring FHR1, FHR2 or both;
[Criteria] (Scoring Standard)" is to select from the standards to be adopted when scoring, i.e. KREBS,
Fisher, Enhanced Fisher and NST;
Doctors select [Test type], [NST Test Result] and [OCT/CST Test Result] according to the scoring
results and clinical practice requirements. The results are described in the clinic report of fetal monitoring.
Scoring description is shown below the scoring results, including the start time, duration, and total scores.
Print
Select fetal monitoring waveform in the compressed wave zone, click [Print] button to enter the [Fetal
Wave Review Report] window, and directly select the print button to finish the operation.
When you need to print the scoring report, select the radio button [Print Score], click [Print] button to enter
the [Fetal Wave Review Report] window, and directly select the print button to finish the operation.

Note
 Scoring on this interface is automatically. Simply selecting a certain time period's waveform in
the compressed waveform zone, the system will automatically score it according to the "Scoring
standard" and "Scoring type". The results are for doctors’ reference only. Doctors should
make the diagnosis on the basis of the actual clinic circumstance.
 "Test type" and "Test results" are selected by doctors according to the clinical practice
requirements before printing the fetal monitoring reports.
 Because there may be a time difference between the central monitoring system and the bedside

Data review and management

monitor, the scoring results may vary when waveforms at a specified time are selected for
scoring diagnosis.

 Test type: NST, OCT, CST and No test. If the test type is of [No test], the [NST test result] and
[OCT/CST test results] should be of no test result. NST test results include three patterns:
reactive pattern, non-reactive pattern and suspicious pattern. OCT/CST test results have three
patterns: negative pattern, positive pattern and suspicious pattern.
 NST
NST: In the absence of uterine contraction or other external load stress, the observation and records of
the fetal heart rate monitoring is called the Non-Stress Test (NST). So far, it is widely accepted that NST is
a rather ideal method for determining fetal placenta's functional state.
NST results have three patterns: reactive pattern, non-reactive pattern and suspicious pattern.
Reactive pattern: Within 20 min of the recording time, if the fetal heart rate baseline is 120bpm ~
160bpm and the fine amplitude variation is above 6bpm, when there are more than four times of fetal heart
rate acceleration accompanying fetal movement, it can be regarded as NST reactive pattern. It means that
fetal movement is well. Check one week later in case of no special circumstance.
Non-reactive pattern: The non-reactive pattern requires the monitoring lasting at least 40-min. If the
fetal heart rate baseline is 120bpm ~ 160bpm and the fine amplitude variation less than 6bpm, if there is no
fetal movement, or there is no FHR acceleration accompanying fetal movement (the fetal heart rate raised
by less than 15bpm, or reached 15bpm but lasted less than 15 sec), it can be regarded as NST non-reactive
pattern.
Suspicious pattern includes combined pattern and sinusoidal pattern.
Combined pattern: there are the characteristics of both reactive pattern and non-reactive pattern on the
monitoring charts at the same time. Its main diagnostic basis is that the FHR acceleration times
accompanying fetal movement reach the standard of the reactive pattern. The fetus may be in a status
between reactive pattern and non-reactive pattern, namely, maybe there is hypoxia, but not serious.
Sometimes it is called the suspicious fetal placental dysfunction.
Sinusoidal pattern: Generally speaking, the chart of sinusoidal pattern features a baseline rate
swinging within a normal range while there is no fetal movement; its amplitude variation is generally
5bpm~10bpm with a cycle period of 2cpm~5cpm; STV disappears and its baseline remains smooth and
consistent. These are the phenomena of severe fetal hypoxia, occurring with anemia or nuclear
polycythemia caused by RH factor of the fetus. But sinusoidal pattern are relatively rare.

 OCT/CST test results can be negative, positive or suspicious.

 OCT
When fetal placenta is dysfunctional during pregnancy (such as high-risk pregnancy), the fetus may be

6-5
Data review and management

in the status of hypoxia because of decline in placental gas exchange function. Such cases are generally
identified with late deceleration accompanying uterine contractions. Oxytocin Challenge Test (OCT) is to
use the oxytocin to artificially trigger uterine contraction so as to observe the variations in fetal heart rate
and speculate the state of the placental function.
Test Methods and Precautions:
Implementing methods: ○
1 Give NST for 20 min to 40 min. Once the monitoring result has a score
above 6, it can trigger uterine contraction. ○
2 2.5 units of oxytocin, added into 500 ml of 5% glucose
solution and administrated intravenously. ○
3 The initial infusion speed is 5 drops/min. Add 2 drops every
5 min until there are three times of uterine contraction every 40 min (each lasting for 40 sec to 60 sec).
Keep the final infusion speed. ○
4 After the establishment of normal uterine contraction, if there is no
serious deceleration, the monitoring should last for at least 40 min. ○
5 After the test, stop infusing
oxytocin and monitor the patient until uterine contraction disappears.
Pay attention to the following during OCT: ○
1 It must be carried out during hospitalization with the
preparations for fetal distress in place. ○
2 In case of extraordinary strong uterine contraction, immediately
slow down the dripping speed or stop the administration. ○
3 If late deceleration occurs continuously, the
patient should be carefully observed and treated in order to avoid any damage to the fetus. ○
4 Have the
oxygen supply equipment and uterine contraction inhibitors in place.
Criteria of the Test Results:
Negative: If the fetal heart rate baseline and its fine variation are both within the normal range and
there is no late deceleration during more than 40-min continuous monitoring or any significant change in
early-onset deceleration or variable deceleration, it can be regarded as OCT negative.
Positive: Late decelerations occur continuously and all three uterine contractions have been observed,
or multiple severe variable decelerations occur.
Suspicious: Sporadic late deceleration, relatively obvious sporadic severe variable deceleration or
frequent early-onset deceleration occurs.
 CST
CST: Intrapartum monitor is to observe the fetus’ response of the uterine contraction, also known as the
contraction stress test (CST). Its judgment indicators and criteria are basically the same as the oxytocin

the case data regularly to prevent the hard disk space shortage. Export the case data about
once a month.
 As the import/export operation is time consuming, all other operation functions of this system
will be disabled until the import/export operation is completed. Therefore, user should carry
out import/export during the idle time of the central monitoring system.

6-13
Chapter 7 Calculation

The calculation function is provided by the central monitoring system. The calculated values are not
directly measured patient data, but calculated by the central monitoring system based on the appropriate
user-supplied data.
The following items can be calculated by the central monitoring system:
 Drug calculation
 Hemodynamic calculation
 Ventilation calculation
 Oxygenation calculation
 Renal function calculation
Click the calculation page needed to be calculated on the multiple pages.

Note
 Calculation is independent of the other functions of the central monitoring system, and the
calculation object is not restricted to the patient under monitoring. Calculation operation does
not affect the patient under monitoring.

Warning
 The correctness of the input parameters and the suitability of the results should be verified
while calculating. The Company is not responsible for any loss as the result of input error or
improper manipulation.

7.1 Drug calculation

During real-time observation, click the [Drug Cal] (Drug Calculation) tab on the multiple pages to
open the [Drug Cal] page as shown below:

7-1
Calculation

Fig. 7-1 Drug calculation

The central monitoring system provides the calculation for 15 kinds of drugs and the function of
titration table display.
In the drop-down list of [Drug Name], user can select one of the following 15 drugs, to calculate total
dosage, liquid volume, drug concentration and other parameters.
The drugs include: Drug A, B, C, D and E to instead any kind of drug flexibly, AMINOPHYLLINE,
DOBUTAMINE, DOPAMINE, EPINEPHRINE, HEPARIN, ISUPREL, LIDOCAINE, NIPRIDE,
NITROGLYCERIN, and PITOCIN.
The drug dosage is calculated according to the following formula:
Drug concentration = total dosage/liquid volume
Infusion speed = drug dosage/concentration
Duration = total dosage/drug dosage

Note
 A, B, C, D and E is not really a drug name but just a drug code. Units of these five drugs are
fixed. The operator can select appropriate units according to the conventions of drug usage.
Presentation rules of units are as follows:
 Unit series of Drug A, B and C: g (grams), mg (milligram), mcg (micrograms).
 Unit series of drug D: unit, k unit (thousand units), m unit (million units).
 Unit of Drug E: mEq (milliequivalent).

7.1.1 Operation methods

On drug calculation page, user can select [Drug Name], confirm the patient weight, and enter other
known values. The system calculates the related results automatically and displays them at appropriate
location. The value of each calculation item has a range limit. If the result is out of range, it will display
"---".
7-2
Calculation

After calculation, click [Save] and the results will be saved. You can find the stored results in the list
of calculation results. The list shows the time when drug calculation takes place. When user want to view
the results, they can select one directly, and the related values will be displayed in the drug calculation
table.

Note
 During this drug calculation, the values can be input into other menu items only after entering
the patient weight and the drug name. Firstly, the system just generates a set of random initial
values, and the operator should not use them as the calculation standards, but must re-enter
values suitable for the patient based on the doctor's advice.

 Each drug has a fixed unit or unit series. The operator must select the appropriate units based
on doctor's advice. Within the same unit series, the conversion of unit will be automatically
adjusted against the current input value. When a value is beyond the range that the unit can
express, the system will display "0".

Patient weight: this menu is gray and unchangeable. This menu displays the value set in [Weight] of
the [Patient Info] when the patient is admitted.

Note

 This function of drug calculation is only a drug calculator. Values in the table may not be
related to the patient under monitoring. Therefore, the patient weight in this menu and that in
the system are two different values. When updating patient data in the system, the value in this
menu item will not be affected.

Chapter 8 Alarm

8.1 Alarm type

According to the nature of the alarms, the alarms in this system can be divided into physiological
alarm, technical alarm and prompt.
1) Physiological alarm

Physiology alarm occurs when a certain physiological parameter of patient isn’t in the normal level or
patient has physiological abnormalities. The alarm information of physiological alarm is displayed in the
physiological alarm zone on the top of the screen.

2) Technical alarm

Technical alarm, also known as systematic error message, occurs when certain system is unable to
function correctly or test results are wrong, because of improper use and operation or system failure. The
alarm information of technical alarm is displayed in the technical alarm zone on the top of the screen.

3) Prompt

Strictly speaking, the prompts don’t belong to alarm. It is the information related to system state
displayed by the system in addition to the physiological alarms and technical alarms. Generally, it is not
involved with the patient's vital signs. Prompt is displayed in the system prompt zone.

8.2 Alarm level

According to the severity of alarm, the physiological alarm in this system can be graded as high-level,
intermediate and low-level alarms.
(1) High-level alarm
Patients, in critical condition or in danger of life, must be rescued immediately.
(2) Intermediate alarm
Patients, with abnormal physiological signs, should be taken care of with appropriate measures or be
rescued at once.
(3) Low-level alarm

8-1
Alarm

Patients, with abnormal physiological signs, might need to be taken care of with appropriate measures
or be rescued.

The levels of all technical alarms and some physiological alarms have been set before the system
leaves the factory. User cannot modify them. However, some physiological alarms’ levels can be modified.

8.3 Alarm mode

When an alarm occurs, the system uses the following audible and visual alarm modes to warn the
user:

 Sound alarm

 Alarm information

 Parameter flashing

Wherein, the light signal, sound alarm and alarm information distinguish the levels of alarm in
different ways.

8.4 Sound alarm

Sound alarm means that when an alarm occurs, the system uses different tonal characteristics to
indicate different levels of alarm.

 High-level alarm: beep - beep - beep - beep - beep.

 Intermediate alarm: beep - beep - beep.

 Low-level alarm: beep.

Warning
 Both bedside monitor and the central monitoring system have the function of sound alarm.
 Although bedside monitor has the same alarm levels and the same upper and lower limits of
alarm with central monitoring system, when central monitoring system, connected with the
bedside monitor, gives an alarm, bedside monitor isn’t certain to do that simultaneously,
because the sub-machine's alarm system has alarm time delay function.

8-2
Alarm

8.5 Alarm information

Alarm information refers to the corresponding alarm information which is displayed in systematic
physiological alarm zone or technical alarm zone when an alarm occurs. System uses different
backgrounds to distinguish the levels of alarm information:

 High-level alarm: Red

 Intermediate alarm: Yellow

 Low-level alarm: Yellow

Put following signs in front of the alarm information to distinguish the levels of alarm information:

 High-level alarm: ***

 Intermediate alarm: **

 Low-level alarm: *

8.6 Alarm parameter flashing

When patient's certain physiological parameter gives an alarm, the parameter in the parameter zone
flashes once per sec to warn the user. In addition, if the upper and lower limits of the parameter are
displayed in the intense monitoring window, the parameter's upper limit or lower limits will flash,
indicating parameter below the lower limit or over the upper limit.

8.7 Alarm state icon

In addition to the above alarm modes, the screen also displays the following alarm state icons to
indicate the different states of the alarms.

 : Indicating mute.

 : Indicating Alarm Suspended.

 : Indicating alarm mute

8.8 System volume

Click the menu [SysSet] (System setting), go to the [Comm] (Common Setting) page, and adjust the
[SysVolume] (System volume). Central monitoring system has 10 grades of alarm volume. The volume
rises progressively from 1  10 with 0 indicating volume off. Users can set it as necessary. Drag the
volume control button t to the desired position, and the sound of corresponding volume can be played.

8.9 Alarm setting

Alarm setting can be used to set the upper and lower alarm limits and alarm levels of the parameters.
When setting this function, operators must note that the alarm parameters in the central monitoring system
should remain synchronous control with bedside monitor's sub-machine setting parameters, for example, as
bedside monitor has HR function, they should set HR's upper and lower alarm limits in the central
monitoring system accordingly. As for the parameters that bedside monitor doesn’t have, there is no need
for the central monitoring system to do that.
In the real-time monitor window, click [Alarm Set] (Alarm setting) multiple page, and the upper and
lower alarm limits, alarm level and alarm switch setting of all parameters and arrhythmias can be set.
Setting methods are as followed: adjust the upper and lower alarm limits, alarm levels and alarm
switch of specified parameters directly. And click on [Save] when finished. If the settings are not desired
to be modified, just click on [Cancel] button.

Equipment service and maintenance

Note
Prevent central monitoring system from any damage:
 Do not use strong solvents.
 Most of the detergent must be diluted before being used.
 Do not use abrasive materials.
 Do not allow any liquid to enter the chassis.
 When cleaning, only wipe the connectors’ exterior, and do not wipe its interior.
 Do not immerse any part of the instrument in liquid.

Warning
 Make sure that there is no magnetic field disturbance in the vicinity of the central unit and that
there is no switching operation of heavy current devices nearby.
 When the central system is working, power supply cannot be disconnected.
 The hospital that uses the central monitoring system should be able to implement a satisfactory
maintenance and repair program, or it may lead to functional failure of the central monitoring
system, and in some severe cases, it may endanger personal safety.
 There is no part that can be repaired by users inside the equipment. So unauthorized, users
should not open the chassis to prevent undue failure, which will affect the normal use of the
central monitoring system.

12.3 Maintain the security of the central monitoring system.

1) Turn on/off
When turning on the machine, first, connect the external devices to the mains supply and switch them
on, then, connect the central monitor to the mains supply and switch it on.
Before turning off the machine, turn off the central unit monitoring system first, and then turn off the
external devices.

Note
 Notes are intended to emphasize the important considerations and to provide a description or
explanation in order to use the product more effectively.
 After the mains supply connected, do not move the equipment randomly and do not plug or
unplug any interface card.
 All kinds of signal cables must be connected/ disconnected when the machine is turned off. The
intervals between boot and shutdown, or between shutdown and boot should not be less than 3
minutes, otherwise the central unit will be easily damaged.

2) Hard disk maintenance

Hard disk has large capacity and high speed. Data will not be lost after the shutdown and a lot of large
files can be accessed directly through the hard disk. Although the hard disk’s failure rate is very low, it is
12-2

still possible to break down. So, pay attention to its maintenance. The structure of the hard disk’s drive is
rather complex, whose platters and read-and-write heads are sealed in a chamber, so non-professional
maintenance staffs must not disassemble and replace it by themselves. Users need to protect it and do not
let dust enter the chamber, or it will damage the disk’s surface so that the disk cannot work normally.

Warning
 Users cannot change or replace the central monitoring system’s software, hard disks and other
configurations.
 This instrument can only be used as a central monitoring system. Other usages without
authorization are strictly prohibited (such as surfing the Internet, handling official business,
installing additional software, etc.).
