The next morning, Alexander suffered a heart attack and died, with a lawsuit from family members stating that his leg was gangrenous.
A judge dismissed the lawsuit against the jail’s sheriff, nurses and Corizon, but said the case could proceed against Augustin and two jailers, who all have
denied any wrongdoing.

The company’s contract was terminated from the jail in 2016, but under its time at Chatham, patients were denied hospitalization, weeks passed with no
doctor on site and prescription drugs went missing, all while inmates continued to die.
Two nurses who worked at the facility spoke out against the mistreatment of inmates. They were terminated, leading to yet another lawsuit against Corizon.
While facing multiple lawsuits, Corizon said that these allegationsare ‘absolutely, categorically false’ and plans ‘to vigorously defend’ itself.
