An NYPD public-information officer shot a driver with his service pistol during an apparent road-road
incident in south Jersey last month, authorities said.
New York City cop Hieu Tran, 27 — whose job includes snapping photos of events for the Police
Department’s social media accounts — appeared grim-faced in Manhattan court Friday, where he agreed
to extradition to the Garden State.

He has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault and second-
possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, officials said.

Tran was taken into custody Thursday after “detectives utilized surveillance video, cell phone records, and
ballistics evidence to identify [him] as the individual responsible for shooting the victim during an apparent
road rage incident,’’ prosecutors said.
This Voorhees, NJ, intersection was the scene of an alleged road-rage shooting involving an off-duty NYPD cop.

“Ballistics evidence collected from the scene was ultimately linked to Tran’s department-issued firearm.”
The cop was expected to be driven to New Jersey on Friday afternoon to face the music there.
