4. Research question
The questions in this study are:
a. How patient participation in nursing care is viewed from the nurse's point of view?
b. How negotiations are shaped depends on the nurse's knowledge of participation?
c. The form of negotiation depends on the nurse's knowledge of participation?
d. How the nurse facilitates participation?
5. Research objective
The purpose of this study was to investigate the meaning of the concept of patient
participation in nursing care from the nurse's perspective.
6. Research method: quan/qual/mixed
This research uses qualitative methods
7. Participants and sampling technique
The participants of this study were seven focus groups of 31 registered nurses recruited
from five hospitals in western Sweden using a purposive sampling technique.
8. Settings: time and location
The time and place of this study are: The focus group interview lasted 1.5 hours and was
held in a room adjacent to the tire. This study was conducted in 2007 Published by

9. Data collection: questionnaire, observation,survei, etc.
Data collection is done with focus group interviews. Data were collected through open-
ended interviews in each of the seven focus groups.
10. Data analysis
The analysis data of this study are:
The data were analyzed using constant comparative analysis. Data creation and analysis
are simultaneously performed. Preliminary analysis is carried out with emerging
categories along with ideas, questions, and memos, namely the writing of theories about
ideas and their relationship codes. After all focus group interviews were completed, a final
analysis of all data was performed.
11. Ethical consideration
Ethics of scientific work are observed. Since the sample refers to employed nurses, no
formal permission from the ethics committee is required in accordance with national and
local Swedish directives. Each study participant gave his or her consent after oral and
written information. Assurances are given that all information will be treated
confidentially outside the focus group and that participation may be terminated at any
time.
12. Result
Patient participation can be explained as an interactional process identified as mutuality in
negotiations based on interpersonal procedures, therapeutic approaches, focus on resources
and opportunities for influence. The results of this study are important and can be used in
nursing practice and education. Application in a clinical context means nursing care
organized to cover all components presented. The results can also be used in quality
assurance to improve and evaluate patient participation. In a pedagogical context, the
results can easily describe and clarify the implementation of patient participation.
