HOW TO MAKE TACOS
Ingredients:
For the taco meat:
● pound (450g) ground beef
1
● 1 small onion, finely chopped
● 2 cloves garlic, minced
● 1 tablespoon chili powder
● 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
● 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
● 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
● 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
● 1/2 teaspoon salt
● 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
● 1/2 cup (120ml) tomato sauce
● 1/4 cup (60ml) beef broth or water
For the tacos:
● -10 small corn or flour tortillas
8
● 1 cup shredded lettuce
● 1 cup diced tomatoes
● 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or your favorite)
● 1/2 cup sour cream
● 1/2 cup salsa
● 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
● 1 lime, cut into wedges
Instructions:
1. Cook the taco meat:
○ In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook, breaking up
the meat with a spatula, until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain
any excess fat.
○ Add the minced garlic, chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, dried oregano, cayenne
pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the spices are
fragrant.
○ Stir in the tomato sauce and beef broth or water. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 5
minutes, until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat.
2. Warm the tortillas:
○ Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side, or until
warm and pliable. You can also wrap them in a damp paper towel and microwave them for
about 30 seconds.
3. Assemble the tacos:
○ Spoon the taco meat into the warmed tortillas.
○ Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, salsa,
and chopped cilantro.
4. Serve:
○ Serve the tacos with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
