1. INTRODUCTION (SUMMARY THE CASE STUDY)

Each store is managed by a local manager who is well acquainted with the community,
allowing them to understand the specific needs of their customers and create a unique store
experience. These Green Teams consist of approximately 13 employees working in different
departments of the store. They collaborate to undertake initiatives that benefit the environment
and the local community. The concept of Green Teams originated in one store where some
employees wanted to contribute to environmental efforts.

The company's higher-ups liked the idea so much that they made it a requirement for
every store to have a Green Team. Each Green Team convenes monthly to report their progress
to the person responsible for sustainability efforts. One suburban store even developed an
intricate carpool program for employees to encourage a reduction in drive-alone car trips. As
long as the Green Team`s focus is on their local store and community, they are granted freedom
and support from corporate management.

Participation in Green Team initiatives has developed a friendly competition between


stores and rewards employees who participate with incentives. These values of support and
encouragement are consistent throughout WOW Supermarket company culture, where
employees are valued for their personal contributions. As their Website explains, “To be a truly
great company means that we continually evolve to meet the changing needs of our customers,
our staff and the world around us. ” With these values, WOW Supermarket" is a workplace that
truly believes that taking good care of our co-workers, our customers and our environment is
what drives the success of our business.
2. MAIN ISSUE
The main issues of this case study are:

➢ Inconsistent leadership

● The case studies show that Green Team have used variations in order to operate Wow
Supermarket.

● The Green Team didn’t have a specific leader that mainly assisted only one team.

● Wow Supermarket has established a green team to create better management but
based on the studies, Green Team didn’t have a specific leader and thus can bring to
possibilities of weak management.

● As can be seen, Green Team has a single long-term leader, two leaders work together
and change their leader frequently.

● Frequent change in leadership also will disrupt the department development and overall
direction if not managed properly.

➢ Ideology of establish Green Team under WOW Supermarket

● WOW Supermarket used to be a small chain Supermarket that was established in 2022
nine stores operated under it and Green Team have been created to distinguish their
store.

● They create a friendly competition between stores and reward employees with
incentives.

● Other than that, they believe the Green Team can bring success to the future.

● Despite this, the existence of Green Team also can lead to rivalry between the
employees while they express their ideas and fierce competition.
3. ANALYSIS OF THE CASE STUDY

3(i). What types of teams are the Green Teams?

Analysis of how the Green Teams at WOW Supermarket work:

● The Green Team has 13 employees from different departments of the store. They meet
on a monthly basis and they report to the sustainability coordinator of the company.
● The team's leadership is different for different stores. The stores make their own
decisions on how they are going to use leadership, others have one leader while others
have two leaders who work together.
● The teams act like liaisons amid their department and they help educate staff, also
create recommendations for their management.
● The Green Teams work together to achieve a certain predetermined goal or to finish a
given project.
● The teams work on projects like the wilderness and wetland cleanup, painting and
weeding at the local elementary school, they have also worked on cleaning and
beautifying gardens for low-income families.
● The team works together to handle environmental and social issues of sustainability in
the organization stores and their surroundings in the community.
● One suburban store even developed an intricate carpool program for employees. For
example, everytime an employee joins the staff car pool, his or her name is entered into
a monthly drawing for a gift card.

To conclude, this Green Teams are in the types of:

A team of people cooperating to finish a project or task. For example, Green Teams are
cooperating to do a variety of projects in their store and local community which is
wilderness and wetland cleanup, painting and weeding at a local elementary school, and
helping plant gardens for low-income families. This is because they got a lot of support
from their management.
3(ii). How can we tell if the Green Teams are successful or not? Analyze the

to complete. From the beginning to the end, they will oversee that task. In this case, the
employees will feel honored and inspired to do better on that task.

- Example: Alyssa, who was selected to manage a new project for the Green Team, will oversee
the entire undertaking from start to finish. She'll take the lead on that assignment. Alyssa will
ensure the project's successful completion.

● Project leadership assignment (Campaign Leader) :

- Assign a Green Team member with people-influencing skills to the position of "Campaign
Leader." This person will be in charge of managing all aspects of the campaign, from strategy to
implementation. Coordinating with other departments, establishing deadlines, and making sure
that every component of the campaign is in line with the broader marketing plan are among the
tasks.

- Example: Based on the manager's observation, Mikhael was selected as the "Campaign
Leader" for the future Green Team events since he possesses people-influencing skills. He will
instruct the participants regarding the event. Mikhael, who has all the qualities of a leader, will
mentor the participants and direct the activity. In order to accomplish this, Mikhael will work with
other departments.

● Identify potential leaders (mentoring and coaching) :

- Employees in the Green Team who possess the capacity to impact others will be tasked with
serving as mentors to their colleagues. By imparting knowledge, offering direction, and assisting
others in honing their abilities to perform that particular job while also coaching certain soft
skills.

- Example: As a mentor for the Green Team, Arash is the one with the ability to influence others.
Depending on his aptitude and experience, he will advise his colleague on how to carry out a
specific task. Additionally, he will impart a soft skill to his members. For instance, emotional
intelligence and communication.

- Every morning prior to reporting to work, all employees in the Green Team are required to
pause and express gratitude for any accomplishments, whether they are individual or collective.
This can involve praising finished tasks, extraordinary efforts, or accomplished milestones.

- Example: To celebrate each success, all Green Team members are required to attend a
morning briefing. Even though it's a tiny victory, they should all enjoy it as a mark of respect and
hard work. They simply praise everyone for their efforts and hard work while sitting in a large
group.

● Open Communication Channels (Regular Team Meetings) :


- Arrange for the Green Team members to meet once a week to discuss updates on the
projects, exchange problems, and come up with solutions. The agenda includes progress
reports, updates on particular activities, and a period set aside for open debate.

- Example: Every evening before they leave the workplace, all of the Green Team members are
required to gather for a regular meeting where they review any reports, projects, or impending
events. A member of the Green Team needs to sit and talk, expressing their personal viewpoints
and opinions. In every project they undertake, they have to report on their progress. Other than
that, everyone must disclose their problems, if they have any, in order to receive mentorship.

vision of a successful business driven by holistic care.
