Comprehension Passage:
The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. It stretches over 13,000
miles and winds through the northern part of China. This massive wall was built over many
centuries, starting more than two thousand years ago.
The main purpose of the Great Wall was to protect China from invasions by nomadic tribes from the
north. It was not just one continuous wall; instead, it consisted of many walls and fortifications built
by different Chinese dynasties. These walls were made of various materials, including stone, brick,
and earth.
Building the Great Wall was an enormous task
that required the hard work of many people.
Laborers, soldiers, and craftsmen all contributed
to its construction. Some parts of the wall were
even built on steep and rugged terrain, making
the work even more challenging.
Today, the Great Wall of China is a UNESCO
World Heritage site and a symbol of China's rich
history and culture. It attracts millions of tourists
from around the world who come to marvel at
its sheer size and beauty.
