The first Alpro Pharmacy opened on February 1, 2002, when Ph.Low Swee Siong and his partner Ph.Hiew Fei Tsong
decided to enter the pharmacy company after finishing their required pharmacy duty in a nearby hospital. During a
succession of positions with Kuala Lumpur's biggest pharmacies, Low became increasingly informed and disillusioned
with what he considered as outdated, product-price-oriented, and complacent methods of running a pharmacy. The
question "Where was the desire to provide superb customer service?" was raised. had inspired him to build his visionary
community pharmacy, Alpro Pharmacy.

The consumer profile of alpro pharmacies in Malaysia varies based on factors such as geography, demography, and the
specific services provided by the pharmacy. However, below is a summary of the usual consumer profile for alpro
pharmacies.
First is local residents is main customer of Alpro pharmacies cause The majority of pharmacy consumers in Malaysia are
locals looking for a variety of health care products and services. This includes over-the-counter drugs, vitamins,
supplements, personal care products, and medical equipment.
Second is families Families account for a large proportion of alpro pharmacy consumers in Malaysia. Parents frequently
visit alpro pharmacies to buy prescriptions and health care goods for themselves and their children. They may also see
chemists for assistance on minor diseases or general health issues.
Then Elderly population Malaysia has an increasing older population, and many of them rely on alpro pharmacies for
their prescription. They may require prescription drugs to treat chronic diseases like as hypertension, diabetes, and
arthritis, as well as over-the-counter items to maintain overall health.
Next is Tourists & Expatriates Pharmacies in tourist locations and urban areas with a high expatriate population frequently
cater to the requirements of visitors and foreign residents in Malaysia. These clients may need prescriptions for travel-
related diseases, as well as recognizable brands of health care supplies from their home nations and Health Conscious
customers as the emphasis on health and wellbeing grows, Malaysia is seeing an increase in the number of health-
conscious customers. These clients may look to pharmacies for natural and organic items, nutritional supplements, and
alternative medications.
After that Patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma, make regular visits to alpro
pharmacies to renew medicines and monitor their health. Pharmacies may provide extra services to these clients, such as
drug counselling, adherence assistance, and illness management programme.
3.0 MACRO ENVIRONEMNT
3.1 Political Factor
Political issues can have a substantial impact on alpro pharmacies in Malaysia, since government laws and regulations
can affect many areas of their business. Here are some major political considerations influencing pharmacies in Malaysia
Regulatory Compliance Pharmacies in Malaysia must follow rules established by government bodies such as the Ministry
of Health (MOH). These rules control licensing, drug registration, advertising, and professional requirements for chemists.
Changes in regulatory requirements can have an impact on pharmacy operations, necessitating modifications to comply
with new laws or regulations.
Second factor is Health care Policy Government health care policies and efforts can have an impact on pharmacy
practices and patient access to pharmaceuticals. Policies relating to universal health care coverage, prescription pricing,
reimbursement methods, and public health campaigns can all have an influence on pharmaceutical product and service
demand.
Third factor is Drug Pricing and Subsidies The Malaysian government regulates drug prices and offers subsidies for
necessary pharmaceuticals through programme like the National Medicine Policy (DUNAS). Changes in drug pricing
regulations or subsidies can have an impact on pharmacy income and consumer medicine affordability.
Next factor is Intellectual Property Rights Political choices involving intellectual property rights, such as patent laws and
trade agreements, can affect the availability of generic pharmaceuticals and the introduction of new treatments to the
market. Pharmacies may need to adjust their product offers and pricing strategies due to changes in patent protection or
the availability of generic alternatives and other factor is Public Health Emergencies during public health emergencies
such as disease outbreaks or pandemics, pharmacies may be subject to government orders aimed at preventing disease
transmission and providing access to critical drugs. Pharmacies may need to take steps such as storing pharmaceuticals,
instituting infection control standards, or engaging in immunization efforts.
Last factor is Government support programs aimed at improving health care infrastructure or promoting public health
initiatives can indirectly benefit pharmacies by increasing access to health care services and driving demand for
pharmaceutical products. Pharmacies may participate in government-funded health care programs or collaborate with
public health authorities to deliver services to undeserved communities.
Overall, political issues have a substantial impact on the operating environment for pharmacies in Malaysia, impacting
regulatory compliance, market dynamics, and health care service delivery to the public. Pharmacies must keep current
on political events and adjust their strategy accordingly in order to overcome regulatory difficulties and capitalize on new
possibilities in the health care industry.
3.2 Economic Factor
Economic considerations can have a significant influence on Malaysian pharmacies, affecting both operational dynamics
and client behaviour. Here are some important economic aspects influencing pharmacies.
First is Consumer Spending Power: The degree of consumer spending power has a direct impact on pharmacy
consumers' purchase behaviour. During times of economic success, consumers may have more disposable income to
spend on health care products and services, resulting in higher sales for pharmacies. During economic downturns or
periods of financial hardship, customers may reduce non-essential expenditure, which has an influence on pharmacy
sales.
Second is Health care Expenditure Government health care spending and finance policies can have an impact on
pharmaceutical product and service demand. Changes in health care expenditure priorities, such as increased
investment in public health programme or expanded health care coverage, may lead to increased use of pharmacy
services and demand for pharmaceuticals.
Third is Inflation and Currency Fluctuations Inflation and currency fluctuations can have an impact on pharmaceutical
product prices as well as pharmacy operational costs. Rising inflation may result in higher prices for pharmaceuticals and
health care supplies, making them less affordable for consumers. Currency changes can also affect the price of imported
pharmaceuticals and raw materials used in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Fourth is Employment and income distribution patterns can have an impact on pharmacy customers' demographics and
purchase behaviour. High unemployment or underemployment may result in lower consumer expenditure on health
care items and services. In contrast, increased employment and pay growth may promote demand for pharmaceutical
items and generate revenue growth.
Next is Government Policies and Taxation Government policies on taxation, commerce, and business regulation can
have an impact on pharmacies' profitability and competitiveness. Changes in tax rates, import taxes, or regulatory
requirements may have an influence on pharmacy operations' cost structure and pharmaceutical product pricing
strategies.
After that is Health Insurance Coverage The availability and scope of health insurance coverage can have an impact on
pharmacy use patterns and patient out-of-pocket costs. Changes in insurance coverage and reimbursement regulations
may cause fluctuations in demand for prescription prescriptions and over-the-counter items at pharmacies.
Lastly is Economic reasons might encourage investments in technology and automation in the pharmaceutical industry.
To increase productivity, lower labour costs, and improve the customer experience, pharmacies may implement
innovative technology like as automated dispensing systems, electronic health records, or telepharmacy services.
Overall, economic variables have a significant impact on the business climate for pharmacies in Malaysia, impacting
customer behaviour, market dynamics, and regulatory landscape. Pharmacies must regularly watch economic trends and
adjust their strategy to handle hurdles and capitalize on opportunities in the ever changing health care sector.
3.3 Sosio-cultural Factor
Socio-cultural factors significantly influence the operation and consumer interaction within pharmacies in Malaysia.
Here's how these factors impact pharmacies.
First is Health Awareness and Education Sociocultural influences impact community health awareness and education
levels. Pharmacies frequently participate in health promotion and education by disseminating information on preventive
health care, medication adherence, and healthy lifestyle options. Sociocultural attitudes towards health and well being
might impact demand for various products and services provided by pharmacies.
Second is Cultural ideas and practices have the potential to impact pharmacy consumers' health care-seeking behaviour
and treatment preferences. Pharmacies may meet cultural preferences for traditional or alternative medications, herbal
cures, or religious beliefs that influence prescription adherence and treatment results. Understanding cultural sensitivities
and preferences is critical to providing culturally competent care and fostering trust in varied groups.
Third is Family and community support networks play a critical role in health care decision-making and treatment
compliance. Pharmacies may function as trusted health care providers in their communities, providing personalized
services and developing long-term connections with clients. Socio-cultural norms governing family involvement in
health care decisions and care giving obligations might have an impact on pharmacy use and consumer loyalty.
Next is Language and Communication Malaysia has a diversified population with different races, languages, and cultural
backgrounds. Pharmacies must be able to successfully interact with clients in their preferred language while also
accommodating cultural disparities in communication methods and degrees of health literacy. Multilingual signs,
packaging, and staff training can help to make pharmacy services more accessible and inclusive.
Next is gender roles and health preferences might impact the sorts of health care goods and services that pharmacy
clients choose. Women, for example, may have specific health care needs in the areas of reproductive health, family
planning, and prenatal care. Pharmacies may provide specialized goods and counselling services customized to the
requirements of certain gender groups.
Then Urbanisation and Lifestyle Changes: As Malaysian society has urbanized and changed, health care demands and
consumer preferences have shifted. Urban pharmacies may see an increase in demand for convenience-oriented
services such as online prescription refills, home delivery, and longer hours to meet busy lifestyles. Sedentary lifestyles,
eating habits, and stress management are examples of socio-cultural changes associated with urbanisation that might
influence the prevalence of chronic illnesses and create demand for related health care goods. Lastly is , Stigma and
Mental Health Awareness Socio-cultural attitudes about mental health, as well as the stigma associated with mental
illness, can influence access to and use of mental health services such as counselling and medication management.
Pharmacies may play a role in raising mental health awareness, decreasing stigma, and offering supportive services to
those seeking help with mental health issues.
Understanding and resolving socio-cultural aspects is critical for alpro pharmacies to effectively serve varied groups,
build trust and engagement with clients, and promote better health outcomes in Malaysian society.
In recent years, technological improvements have had a huge influence on alpro pharmacies, transforming how they
operate and provide services. Here are some significant technical elements that affect pharmacies:
Automation and robots: Pharmacies are increasingly using automation and robots for operations including drug
dispensing, inventory management, and prescription packing. This increases efficiency, accuracy, and lowers the
likelihood of mistakes.
Electronic Health information (EHR): Integrating with EHR systems enables pharmacists to access patient information,
manage medication histories, and work more efficiently with healthcare professionals. This leads to more informed
decisions and better patient care.
Telepharmacy allows chemists to remotely assess and authorise prescriptions, educate patients via telecommunication,
and expand pharmacy services to underserved areas. Online Pharmacies: The growth of online pharmacies provides
patients with quick access to drugs, allowing them to obtain prescriptions online and have them delivered to their door.
This digital shift has broadened the scope of pharmaceutical services.
Mobile Apps: Pharmacies are creating mobile apps that will allow consumers to refill prescriptions, receive medication
reminders, access health information, and connect with pharmacists more easily.
Medication Management Systems: These systems assist patients in managing their prescriptions by offering personalised
dose regimens, reminders, and alerts for potential drug interactions or adverse effects.
ALPRO Pharmacy Analytics: Data analytics may help pharmacies optimise inventory management, estimate medicine
demand, discover patterns in patient behaviour, and improve operational efficiency. Personalized Medicine:
Technological advancements facilitate the development of personalized medicine, which involves tailoring therapies to
individual patients based on genetic, environmental, and lifestyle characteristics. Pharmacies play an important role in
dispensing and monitoring these specialized drugs.
Regulatory Compliance Tools: Technology helps pharmacies meet regulatory standards such prescription monitoring,
reporting adverse medication occurrences, and ensuring patient confidentiality.
Block chain technology improves openness and security in the medicine supply chain, allowing pharmacies to trace
medication provenance and prevent counterfeit pharmaceuticals.
These technology components combine to create a more efficient, accessible, and patient-centered pharmacy
experience, resulting in better health care results and consumer satisfaction.
3.5 Environmental Factor
Environmental considerations can have a considerable influence on Alpro pharmacy, influencing both operational
sustainability and client health results. Here are some important environmental aspects that pharmacists should address.
First is garbage Management Alpro Pharmacies create a wide range of garbage, including outdated pharmaceuticals,
packing materials, and hazardous substances like needles and syringes. Proper waste management techniques are vital
for reducing environmental damage and complying with pharmaceutical waste disposal requirements. Pharmacies may
develop recycling programmed, engage in drug take-back campaigns, and guarantee proper waste segregation and
disposal.
Second is Energy Efficiency: Pharmacies' energy use may have an impact on the environment as well as operating costs.
Pharmacies may minimize energy consumption by installing energy-efficient lighting, heating, ventilation, and air
conditioning (HVAC) systems, optimizing equipment utilization, and adopting energy-saving initiatives. Renewable
energy sources, such as solar power, can also be investigated to minimize dependency on fossil fuels and greenhouse
gas emissions.
Third is Green Building Design Pharmacies may promote sustainable building practices by employing environmentally
friendly construction materials, adding natural lighting and ventilation, and designing layouts that reduce energy
consumption and waste creation.
Fourth is Transportation Impact Both pharmacy delivery services and supply chain logistics add to carbon emissions.
Opting for electric or hybrid delivery trucks, combining goods, and establishing efficient routing can all help to lessen
environmental effect.
Next is Packaging Reduction Pharmacies may reduce packaging waste by utilizing environmentally friendly materials,
creating take-back programme for abandoned pharmaceutical containers, and encouraging consumers to utilize
reusable prescription vials.
Fifth is Water Conservation By using water-saving technology like as low-flow fixtures and efficient irrigation systems for
landscaping, pharmacies may minimize their water consumption and contribute to water conservation.
Then Chemical Management Proper handling and disposal of chemicals used in compounding or cleaning procedures is
critical for preventing pollution of water sources and soil.Sustainable buying Choosing suppliers who priorities
sustainable methods, such as buying drugs and products from ecologically responsible manufacturers, helps to improve
overall environmental stewardship.
When it comes to legal aspects affecting alpro pharmacies in Malaysia, numerous major rules and requirements must be
met in order to maintain compliance and sustain professional standards. Here are some essential legal criteria that
pharmacies in Malaysia must comply with.
The Pharmacy Act 1952 controls the licensing and regulation of pharmacists and pharmacies in Malaysia. It describes the
credentials needed for chemists, the licensing requirements for pharmacy locations, and the norms of practice.
The Poisons Act of 1952 controls the import, export, sale, and distribution of poisons and medical drugs in Malaysia.
Pharmacies must meet licensing and record-keeping standards for prohibited drugs.
