Samuel Beckett was born on 13th April 1906 in Dublin, Ireland. His father’s name is William
Frank Beckett,and his mother’s name is Merry Née Roe. His father worked as surveyor of

and lives in majority Catholic society. He began school in kindergarten at the age of five, and a
year after, he began to study languages and also learned to play piano. When he was young, he

he published his work Proust (criticism) in London. In 1932, he then went back to Paris and
worked as teacher again. During the war in Paris, he worked in the France Resistance Group to
look for information on German troops and resist Germany. In 1945, Beckett visited Ireland and
joined the Red Cross to help people. Since that, he tried to write many literary works, and one of
them was En Attendant Godot. Because of this work, he got the Nobel Prize in 1970.
