If the study has followed or framed or is based on any framework that should be
mentioned here.
Some data related to the secondary objectives and even related to your project
work may already been researched and published. This information comes in
the literature survey. It is expected that students present the essence of the
article and refer to the source (book, article, website, etc) in the references.
Students are expected to survey the available literature of the related topic from
authenticated sources.
CHAPTER 3
INDUSTRY ANALYSIS/COMPANY PROFILE
(You may collect data using either qualitative and / or quantitative methods,
depending on the objectives and scope of the study. Questionnaire is the most
widely used tool for collection of quantitative primary data.)
Primary data: If you have collected data for your project report using primary
sources. The data gathered by primary data collection methods should be
specific to the research’s motive. The primary data collection methods used
should be mentioned whether it is through quantitative or through qualitative
methods. Tools used for data collection such a survey, polls, interviews,
company data from trusted sources.
(If primary data not used for the report this section can be skipped)
Secondary data: If the project report is prepared using secondary data, sources
of such data need to be mentioned. For example – government reports, financial
statements, press releases, websites. The names of such sources should be
mentioned.
(If secondary data not used for the report this section can be skipped)
Tools for data collection: Tools used for data collection such as rating scale,
attitude scales, tests, checklists should be mentioned here.
Methods used for collecting the data: Methods used for data collection such
as Focus groups, Oral histories, questionnaires – online or paper, observation,
company data and reports, website articles, existing data from research journals,
polls from trusted sources should be mentioned here.
Sampling techniques: The process used for sampling such as identifying the
target population (population of interest), defining the sample frame, listing of
target sample (people studied) should be mentioned. The methods used for
finding the sample such as Probability or non – probability and their sub
categorizations should be mentioned here.
Sample size: the number of observations used for determining the estimations
of a given population is known as sample size. Students should mention the
steps followed to finalize the sample size and also mention the sample size.
Statistical analysis of data: The main function of this part is to present data in
an organized form, discuss its significance, analyze it and make inferences.
o Students are required to maintain hard copies of the filled questionnaires
(raw data) and a soft copy of the data in the form of an excel datasheet.
o “A picture is always better than a thousand words” - though the saying is
true it is essential to remember the following points:
Include graphs, charts, or other graphical presentations wherever
necessary but do not overdo it, because too many graphs will
reduce the clarity of your analysis.
Make sure that all figures included in the report are labelled
(number and title).
Graphs, and charts should be explained properly with proper
reference to the corresponding data.
When a table, graph or diagram is used in the project report, make
sure that the body text of the report provides appropriate
references.
Tables need to be appropriately designed i.e. it is easy to create a
complex table with several columns and rows but difficult to read
the data and observe the trends. If possible, split the table into a
number of sub-tables and provide a summary table giving a
general idea of it.
If the figures mentioned are more than five or six digits, it is better
to present them in thousands, lakhs, or crores. In case of
percentages, round off the digit to two decimal places.
CONCLUSIONS
Conclusion should be made by conceptual representations through logical inferences
drawn and judgements formed on the basis of analysis of data presented in the report.
All conclusions must be supported by data presented in the report to this stage. If here
are a large number of conclusions, they may be itemized in the descending order of
their importance. Conclusions are a very important part of the project work done by a
student. Examiners pay a great deal of attention to the process of drawing conclusions.
They are concerned with the basis on which specific conclusions are drawn. Hence,
conclusions should be clearly linked with the research done as part of the project work.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Recommendations should be clearly mentioned, technically feasible and economically
viable action plan provided by researcher to the organization for solving problem under
consideration (fulfilment of objectives).
BIBLIOGRAPHY/REFERENCES
All the references should be referred to in the text and arranged alphabetically.
Attach
Questionnaire
Charts & Graphs
Other relevant documents,
Product catalogues, etc.
Data collection and analysis of the data collected through this Questionnaire
will be the cornerstone on which your findings, suggestions / recommendations
will be based. Hence, a proper Questionnaire is extremely important for a
successful project.
Introduction / Purpose of the study - Before you start with questions, explain
that this is an academic study and that the data collected will help you
understand the various views held by different groups of consumers of the
product under study.
Start the questionnaire with warm up questions, which are related to the topic
but are not the core questions e.g. if you are doing a survey for employee
satisfaction about the welfare facilities in the organization, warm up question
could be “How many years have you been working in this organization?”
Proceed on to ask the core questions, which serve your objectives. Maintain a
natural flow – one question leading to the next, rather than jumping from topic
to topic in a haphazard manner.
