World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) aims to put a spotlight on the hurdles that people
with autism and others living with autism face every day. As a growing global health issue
owing to its increasing exposure in the press and common knowledge, autism is an issue
that is only gaining more understanding and WAAD activities are planned every year to
further increase and develop world knowledge of children and adults who have autism
spectrum disorder (ASD).

April 30th
This tradition that began in Mexico in 1925, is celebrated on April 30 . The idea was born
from the first “World Conference for the Well-being of Children” that was held in Geneva,
Switzerland in August 1925. At that time several countries selected days to celebrate
children.
Children’s Day has been celebrated annually in Mexico since 1925. Children are recognized
as an important part of society so the day focuses on the importance of loving, accepting
and appreciating children.
Schools host special events inviting parents to celebrate and share Children’s Day with
students. Parties are held and children take part in activities like face painting, story-telling,
art workshops, and plays.
