1. Project Summary
A power system analysis for Texas Instruments Philippines Inc. located at Loakan
Road, Baguio. Load flow analysis calculation, short circuit analysis, protection
coordination and arc flash analysis are performed to verify system safety and adequacy.
• Verify if voltage drop on the panels are within tolerable limits using load flow
analysis, taking into account the existing equipment
• Determine calculated fault duties, taking into account the existing equipment as a
reference for new equipment ratings
• Recommend protective device settings which selectively isolate faults in a manner
which is consistent with the basic system design and applicable codes and
standards. These recommendations will be given to achieve an optimum balance
between protection and selective fault isolation.
• Determine arc flash incident energy levels and PPE requirements.
2. Executive Summary
Voltage drop across all panels are within acceptable limits. Please refer to Section 4
for more details.
All devices within the project scope were found to have acceptable short circuit
interrupting ratings when compared to system fault duties. Please refer to Sections
3.2 and 4.1 and Appendix 1, 3, 4 for more detailed information.
The recommended device settings provided in this report should provide adequate
system protection and coordination. However, there are cases of unavoidable non-
selectivity between protective devices. Please refer to Section 3.3 and 4.3 and
Appendix 5 & 6 for more detailed information.
The arc flash hazard calculations within this study are based on the as-found
settings. As such, all protective devices must be verified to be still set as per this
study prior to the application of the corresponding arc flash hazard labels. No work
should be done on or around any energized equipment without the use of a proper
level of PPE and adequate training. Please refer to Sections 3.4 and 4.4 and
Appendix 7 for more detailed information.

3. Methodology
Three phase, line to line, single line to ground and double line to ground faults are
calculated to determine the highest fault current as a reference for equipment short circuit
withstand and interrupting ratings.
Ø =
Where:
I3Øpu = Per unit three-phase fault
E = Per unit voltage, equal to 1
Z1 = Positive sequence impedance
Where:
ISLGpu = Per unit single line to ground fault
Z1 = Positive sequence impedance
Z2 = Negative sequence impedance
Z0 = Zero sequence impedance
=−
=−
PSS-1603-2402-01 R2 Texas Instruments Philippines Inc. 02/29/2024 Kevin Fajardo, PEE PSSv1.0 2
Where:
= Phase A positive sequence current
= Phase A negative sequence current
= Phase A zero sequence current
The calculation uses 100MVA base for all scenarios. The summary of the calculated faults
to be used as basis for kAIC and Short Circuit Withstand Ratings for devices and
equipment are shown in Appendix 3
Arc flash evaluations are used in conjunction with the client’s/facility operator’s
safety policy to determine the required personal protective equipment (PPE) when
working on or near energized equipment. Many electrical injuries are burns that are
the result from exposure to the energies liberated during an arcing fault. The burns
are typically second and third degree in nature and are often fatal.
The calculation method used is in accordance with the Philippine Electrical Code
2017, IEEE 1584-2018 Guide for Performing Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations and NFPA
70E-2021 Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace
The arc flash analysis will determine the incident energy level on each operable
equipment while energized to guide personnel on appropriate PPE to wear while
working:

Based on the PPE descriptions detailed above, all resulting arc flash hazard labels will
be similar to that as shown below.

4. Findings and recommendations
All panels have acceptable voltage drop values as shown by the load flow analysis in
Appendix 2.
Based on the calculation of the maximum possible fault current on all locations, the actual
ratings of installed devices are evaluated if it can safely isolate faulted circuits and
withstand mechanical damage brought by short circuits. All devices within the project
scope were found to have acceptable short circuit ratings when compared to system fault
duties. Complete short circuit analysis input & output reports as well as device evaluation
tables are contained in the Appendices.
The recommended device settings provided in this report should provide adequate system
protection and coordination. However, there are a few cases of unavoidable non-
selectivity between levels of protective devices as indicated by the overlapping of
characteristic curves. These cases are inevitable due to the particular characteristics of
each device. The recommended settings were chosen to maximize system reliability while
minimizing conditions of jeopardized system selectivity. It is recommended to implement
the settings as indicated in the Appendix and thoroughly test the devices to assure proper
operation within the manufacturer’s tolerances. See Appendix 6 for more details on the
device characteristic curves.
The arc flash hazard calculations within this study are based on the recommended
settings. As such, all recommended settings must be successfully implemented prior to
the application of the corresponding arc flash hazard labels. These recommended settings
were typically chosen to provide optimum protective device selectivity while minimizing the
resulting arc flash incident energy at each location where possible. No work should be
done on or around any energized equipment without the use of a proper level of PPE and
adequate training. An arc flash hazard summary/data table and labels are included in the
Appendix which provides full details of the analysis and the results.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Arc flash hazard analysis methods and calculations used within
this study are based on the protective devices operating as designed and being applied,
maintained and tested as per the manufacturer’s specifications and accepted industry
standards. Periodic maintenance and testing of the electrical equipment is highly
recommended as endorsed by the NFPA-70B Standard, Recommended Standard for
Electrical Equipment Maintenance, to confirm the safe and acceptable operation of the
power system equipment and protective devices.

5. Closing Remarks
Power system studies are an important part of the electrical engineering processes and
continuously proves to provide safe, reliable and efficient systems. A full power system
study that includes voltage drop calculation, load flow analysis, short circuit analysis,
protection coordination and arc flash analysis is highly recommended.
This study is intended for use by qualified individuals to help facilitate the installation,
operation, maintenance and safety of the electrical power system as depicted. Modification
of equipment, changes to system configuration, adjustment of trip-unit settings, and/or
failure to properly maintain equipment may invalidate these results.
