PART-2 (USER MANUAL FOR VTECH)
Introduction
The VTECH Make "Water Velocity Logger" is a small electronic hand-held device that can be used to measure
flow velocity from mechanically rotating current meter. A superior feature of the is its ability to store up-to five
current meters data at a time and interface directly to a Laptop, PocketPC, or other computing device and provide
data in MS-Excel File Format that can be used externally to compute discharge. Current Meters perform a mechanical
switch closure can be used with the to produce a clean, noise-free signal. To measure and compute velocity, the provides
flexibility to User to Program it for upto 5 Current meters calibration equation with up to three rating equations for each
current meter.

The operates with two AA batteries which can be easily replaceable in the field. It offers connectivity
between the current meter and a using a connecting lead. Commands can be sent to the using 8 keys
provided to perform a measurement and make operating selections. The can perform upto 100 pulse/sec.
The also provides configurable average time counter to improve measurements for extremely slow rotating
current meters or for high speed rotating current meters. The does not need to be connected to an external
device to operate. The itself is a complete data logger for measuring water velocities with user configuration
facility. The visual indicators, LCD, Keyboard and internal buzzer of the can be used to make a conventional
current meter measurement and compute water velocity. User can view recorded data as well as delete the
abrupt data in the field. Further data can be downloaded to Laptop/any computer using USB port in MS-Excel
File format.
As you continue to read this manual, many features and operating capabilities of the will be revealed and
described. The is extremely easy to use and yet versatile enough to offer selections to operate in a wide
variety of scenarios and field settings. A single press of a button can Start/Stop a measurement.
Product Overview
The can measure and display velocity. Velocity will be displayed in meters/second (m/sec). When a
measurement is being made, the counts contact closures, measures elapse time, and computes velocity to a
resolution of 0.01 m/sec. The velocity is computed based on a selection of a meter rating again chosen from
a menu. During a measurement, the measures the number of accumulating meter contact closures and
elapsed time at 1-second intervals. At the end of the measuring period, a final count of the total number of
contact closures and total measurement time is computed internally. From this data, internal program can
compute velocity for a discharge computation.

One of the most important operating features of the is the ability to signal process each contact closure.
Contact closures from any type of meter are inherently noisy causing miscounting or double counting. The
samples the input signal from the connected meter and examines the signal to determine if a contact closure
has occurred and if successive signals are of the same characteristics. The then determines contact closure
conditions and either counts the signal closure or eliminates the condition as a noise pulse and does not count
the signal. The offers (2) modes of operation, i.e. Velocity Mode and Rev. Counter mode by pressing Menu
button & selecting the required mode. The comes with a backlit feature allows user to perform measurement in
low light or no light condition along with LCD contrast setting, Key-Tone Setting, Current Meter Revolution
Tone Settings. As an added benefit, whenever the is inactive, the will y5y55 automatically turn itself Off after
5 minutes to help conserve the batteries. When the turns Off, all important settings are saved in memory,
eliminating the burden of re-setting up the device when the unit is turned back On. To turn it On, simply press
the ON/OFF button and all previous settings are restored ready for the user to begin a measurement.
