I am bad at everything. I spend 9 hours
memorising the Quran a day and I fail
to learn a verse. I try to help my
parents but I make mistakes. Am I a
bad Muslim?

You are a good muslim, very good muslim.
And i really mean it.
Read your question again, you say “i fail to memorize”,
“i make mistakes”, and you think you are bad because
of that.
But what you really should focus on is the “I spend 9
hours memorising the Quran” and “i try to help my
parents”.
That’s enough to make you good.
And do you think Allah Almighty will judge your
mistakes?

(286) Allāh does not charge a soul except [with that
within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of]
what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the
consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord,
do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten
or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like
that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and
burden us not with that which we have no ability to
bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy
upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over
the disbelieving people."
Also don’t worry about memorising the Quran, Omar
ibn AlKhattab the second caliph took 12 years to
memorize chapter 2.
And that wasn’t a shame. Bacause prophet Muhammad
(peace be upon him) said:
"The one who is proficient in the recitation of the
Qur'an will be with the honourable and obedient scribes
(angels) and he who recites the Qur'an and finds it
difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the
best way possible, will have two rewards."
Riyad as-Salihin 994
So instead of thinking about your results, think about
your efforts, and know that Allah Almighty knows about
all.

No! You aren't.
1st - Your actions are based on your intentions.
2nd- At least you are trying to learn the Quran. You
have no idea how much happy Allah is going to be.
3rd- It takes time to learn the Quran, even a single
verse so don't worry about it. Just keep on practising.
4th- Try listening to the verses and then memorize
them. Plus you need to identify which type of learner
you are. Auditory, visual or kinesthetic? When you are
clear about your learning style, then practice the Quran
in that way.

I read this earlier today and I think it might help:
“According to how small you look at the sin is how great
it will be in the sight of Allaah, and according to how
greatly you look at the sin the smaller it will be in the
sight of Allaah.”
Al-Qaadhee ‘Iyaad [As-Siyar, 8/428]
It sounds like you very much care about being a good
person in the eyes of Allah, so he will notice your good
intentions. Since you seem very worried about making
mistakes, this just tells you how much of a good person
you are!

I wouldn’t say I’m the perfect Muslim. I am typical like
any other teenagers—I love modest fashion, English
novels, movies, music, etc. I love to be on my device (I
don’t have any social media besides twitter though.)
But I know when to put a limit to them and perform my
religious duties as well.
I almost fully pray 5 times a day [I miss fajr as I
oversleep even with the alarm on ]. I’d like to read an
Islamic book if I find it intriguing. I try fasting fully every
Ramadan (I plan to do fasting besides Ramadan as
well). I read the Quran on weekends

Related Are Muslims good or bad?
You'll get good Muslims & you'll get bad Muslims, it's
just the same as any other religion.
Same as you get good christians & bad christians.
A person isn't & cannot be defined by what they call
their God, skin colour or place of birth. It's the choices
you make & the paths in life you take that defines you
as a person.
Never, judge a book by its cover.

As a muslim who also had to memorize a lot of surahs, I

It was stressful and I would never be able to recite the

Related How do you memorize Quran?
Memorizing the Qur’an is a great achievement for any
muslim as long as his intention is pure for the sake of
Allah and not to please other people or to show off.
So here are a few steps I consider are very important in
order to memorize the Qur’an:
Make the intention in your heart and only to
please Allah and no one Else!
Make it the number 1 goal in your life. if its not
your most important goal, you will probably
postpone memorizing and do other things that
seem more important to you.
Go to a known Scholar of Qur’an and be sure
that he is a Hafiz and has a Sanad, make a

Related If you don't pray 5 times a day, does that

I don’t pray five times a day. Yes, this is not what a
good Muslim does. But I have been told by wiser, more
experienced Muslims that it’s not so much that you are
a bad Muslim as that you are losing the opportunity to
get closer to God and transform your life and your
psyche for the better. Most of the practices of any faith
are not to benefit God ( who is self-sufficient and needs
nothing) but to improve and heal us.
