assembling the early model

box and requires the following

Note that the top shelf has a warning label. It should be

STAND ASSEMBLY

Please follow the instructions


provided to assemble the stand.

are loosely attached to
the top plate and pulled
as wide apart as
possible.
• Note: When placing the
Ax printer onto the
stand be careful not to
trap your fingers
between the printer
base and the angle

in a cardboard box with:
– Starter Kit
– ITM
– Power lead
– Touch Panel, Touch

are not standard.

– Remove all parts from packaging
taking care not to create any
untidiness or trip hazards.

– Ensure all parts are present as per


S.O.A. documentation and WO
instructions.

– Ensure you have all parts to


complete install before continuing.

– Arrange for packaging to be


recycled where possible/necessary.

Basic Printer Assembly


Printer Assembly
• Assembly Tools

You will need the


following tools:
• Allen Keys
• Flat blade
screwdriver (for DVI
cable).
• Torx driver set.
Printer Assembly
• Printer Mounting

Mount the printer to the stand taking care not to


trap your fingers between the base of the printer
and the stand brackets. Screws supplied with stand.

The printers are either 16kg (Ax150i) or 22kg


(Ax350i) dry, so are suitable for 1 man lifting with
properly assessed lifting techniques.

Secure the printer to the stand-brackets and the


stand-brackets to the stand.

Do NOT fit the fluids or ITM yet!!!

• Mounting Basic Touch Panel (AX350i only)

Take the UI mount bracket c/w


screws from the packaging.

Remove the 4 existing screws


from the top of the Ax350i (as
they are just filler plugs and too
short to secure the bracket).

Secure the bracket to the top


of the Ax350i cabinet using the
longer screws provided with
the bracket.

• Mounting Basic Touch Panel (AX350i only)

Connect and secure the


DVI lead to the Touch Panel
before mounting the TP to
the printer with 7”.

Mount the Touch Panel to


the bracket using the fixings
provide. Optional position
to elevate height by 35mm

Connect the other end of


the DVI cable to the printer
on the rear of the cabinet
and secure.

• Hardware Packs and Inspection.

Fit any additional Hardware Packs to the printer as per the


SOA or WO instructions provided (See next slide for layout
of connections). Should be factory fitted as standard

While the electrical panel is open check all connections are


secure, components located correctly and that the SIM and
SD cards are seated correctly in their slots.

Then ensure that the electrical panel cover is securely


replaced and that no cables are trapped near the door hinges
at the base of the panel.

Connect any external air supply required.

• Applying Electrical Power
Check that the electrical panel cover is securely
fastened.

Inspect the mains power lead for damage and


correct fuse (3A or 5A)!

Install the electrical power cable, tightening the


supply connector securely to the rear of the
printer unit with the two screws.

Test the earth continuity between the printer


cabinet and a suitable earth point.The earth
continuity should be less than <0.3Ω.

Apply the power to the printer. This should


illuminate an LED at the printer Power button
before booting up.

Printer Configuration

Do not fit the iTech module or ink-up the


printer yet!

The Time and Date must be set correctly and


fluid level sensors may need calibrating first.

Otherwise the QMM calibration (RFID) may be


confused and ruin the fluid cartridge usage!

Boot the printer up. This takes approx. 3mins

Navigate to the Setup page –


‘System Information’ button.

Click the ‘Software Versions’ tab


to check the software version.

If required, upgrade the software


to the latest release version.
• Instructions for upgrading are in a
separate document.

Navigate to the Setup


page – ‘Wizards’ tab.

Click to run the


‘Installation Wizard’.

Check that the Language,


Keyboard and Currency
are set correctly.

Press the required box to


adjust.

Click the ‘right’ arrow to


continue.

Set Date and Time as


required.

Press the required box to


adjust.

Once both are set click


‘Advanced Settings’.

Then click the ‘right’ arrow


to continue.

Ensure Ethernet is
ENABLED.

Click Edit to change


the Network

The following settings will allow the


printer to communicate with a DCI
box if connected directly via ethernet
cable.
Non-standard DCI configurations
may differ.

• Deselect the ‘Enable DHCP’ so there is no tick


(static IP).
• Set:
• IP address 172.16.0.100
• Sub net 255.255.255.0
• Default gateway 172.16.0.1
• Domain name dps.local

• Click the green tick to continue.

Email alerts can be enabled but


are outside the scope of this
basic setup document.

Ensure there is a tick in the


‘Don’t show this Wizard again’
box.

Click the ‘Complete’ button.

Printer Inking Up –

Fluid Level Sensor Calibration

• Fluid Level Calibration

At install or after a software update the


printer may recommend a fluid calibration.

If required perform the following:

Ensure there is no fluid in the solvent


reservoirs and the iTech module is not fitted.

Navigate to Setup / Diagnostics and the Tests


tab.

Swipe the menu up and at the bottom of the list


of programs the Calibrate Ink sensor and
Calibrate solvent sensor.

Press each button in turn to calibrate the ink


and solvent sensor with no fluids present. A
status box will appear for approx. 10sec
confirming the calibration is occurring.

After calibrating both sensors the printer is


now ready to ink up and bleed/prime!

Navigate to the Setup page –


‘System Information’ button.

Overview confirm ink type model


and nozzle.

If required to change then service


key is required to allow selection.
Fitting of ITM

Using correct wash lubricate


low drip valves and ITM.

Fit ITM into position until


fully locked in.

Proceed to check fluids


Printer Ink-up
• Calibration and Checks

Ensure that the iTech module is the correct type:

• ITM02 for dye based


• ITM03 for Heavy Duty inks

Without opening the fluids, offer up the cartridges to the


Quality Management Module to interrogate the system and
ensure the correct ink is in use.

Three solid green lights should appear on the QMM after a


short period of flashing.

If any RED or AMBER lights appear, check the screen for any
errors and check the ink type and printer setup!
Printer Ink-up
• Fluid filling

Now, using the correct PPE, fit and deposit the fluids.

Do not remove the flow assist valves from the


MUM or ITM.

Navigate to the Fluid Level indication screen in the


swipe-down menu at the Home screen.

You should now see the fluid levels increasing in real


time.

Also the level status indications in the bottom status


bar should eventually change colour.

Remove the gutter line bung at the print head!


Printer Ink-up
• Bleeding/Priming
Once both fluid level indications are green,
you are ready to bleed/prime the ink system
and head.

From the ‘Setup’ menu select the ‘Wizards’


tab.

Select the ‘Ink Priming wizard’.

Press ‘Start’.

The priming process will start and bleed out
the primary and secondary ink circuit. Also
the print head including the flush line.

After several minutes the indication will


report ‘The priming process has finished’.

Press OK to return to the Wizard screen.

Check the screen for further errors.


Printer Settings
• Inspection Menu

Inspection can be found under Setup/Adjustments


menu on the Inspection tab.

In this section there is the possibility to set an


inspection reminder.

Also there is a place to enter information about


parts replacements which will be logged in the
Domino Cloud.

Pressing ‘Add’ will allow you to enter details


about component replacements with comments.
Printer Start

Double check that the gutter


bung is removed and then
sequence the printer ON.

The printer will perform a


further bleed/purge on the
first start-up.

menu can be used to
set orientation and
print delays.

The Printer Optimisation menu contains:

- Print delay (mm)

- Invert (Global)

- Reverse (Global)

- Print Height (adjustment from calibrated


height).
• Bold and I.C. Gap are in SETUP / GLOBAL PRINT
SETTINGS / APPEARANCE.

Installing a DCI unit (Domino Cloud Interface)

– The DCI unit is provided with


installation instructions to
install. Please follow them
carefully.
– On early models an additional
230V a.c. power point is
required to power the DCI
unit.
– Following are instructions to
assemble another box with
twin extension socket to
power both the printer and
DCI from one 230V socket.

external power supply which
was not IP66.
