3 Cisco System 2 x 10/100 Ethernet ports 10/100 Mbps 10.30.9.71
10. Is there wi-fi capability in the
LAN? If yes,
The answer is yes,
i. What is the Wi-fi access point address?
10.30.127.254
ii. How many devices / IP addresses does it support?
255.255.192.0 (or /18) = 18 bit used for the network portion
Ipv4 used 32 bits, so to find the bit of host portion, we need to subtract the total bit
with network portion.
Total bit of Host Portion= 32-18=14 bits.
Number of Hosts=2^Number of Host Bits−2
=2^14 -2
=16382
iii. What is the bandwidth?
100 Mbps
If no,
iv. What additional devices are needed?
v. Where will you connect them?
vi. What will be its IP address?
11. Is there internet access in the lab?
If not, what changes to the hardware / software must be made ?
If yes, what is the IP address of the router / gateway ?
The answer is yes (10.30.127.254)
ping 10.30.127.254
Pinging 10.30.127.254 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 10.30.127.254: bytes=32 time=29ms TTL=255
Reply from 10.30.127.254: bytes=32 time=28ms TTL=255
Reply from 10.30.127.254: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=255
Reply from 10.30.127.254: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=255
Ping statistics for 10.30.127.254:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 6ms, Maximum = 29ms, Average = 20ms
12. Draw the Network Topology (show how machines and servers are connected
using connectivity devices)
13. If 20 more machines have to be added to the network, what changes must be made to
the network?
To add 20 more machines to the network, ensure our current subnet can accommodate
the additional IP addresses, potentially by expanding or creating a new subnet, and
update DHCP settings accordingly. Check that network switches have enough available
ports and the infrastructure can handle increased traffic. Update firewall rules, access
control policies, and DNS configurations. Physically connect the new machines,
ensuring proper cabling and power supply. Adjust network management and monitoring
tools, and review security measures, including network segmentation and QoS settings.
Finally, document all changes and continuously monitor network performance and
security.
14. If the network is to be divided into four subnetworks having 50 machines each, give a plan to
do so. What additional devices will be needed ? Give the IP address of each subnetwork and
the address ranges for hosts in each subnetwork.
To divide the network into four subnetworks with 50 machines each, use a subnet mask of
/26, providing 64 addresses per subnet (62 usable for hosts). For an IPv4 network starting at
192.168.1.0/24, the subnets will be 192.168.1.0/26 (hosts: 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.62),
192.168.1.64/26 (hosts: 192.168.1.65 - 192.168.1.126), 192.168.1.128/26 (hosts:
192.168.1.129 - 192.168.1.190), and 192.168.1.192/26 (hosts: 192.168.1.193 -
192.168.1.254). Additional devices needed include a router capable of handling multiple
subnets and possibly additional switches if current ones lack sufficient ports. Update DHCP,
DNS, firewall rules, and access controls to accommodate the new subnets.
