1.0 Preparation And Application of Prime Coating
1.1 The prime coat shall be SS-1K and shall be approved by Engineer
1.2 Joint Dipping shall be carried out to check the compliance of the specific
requirements and the finished levels of the completed road-base.
1.3 Once the road-base level is achieved, a layer of prime coat can be
sprayed on.
1.4 The surface shall be prepared by cleaning with a power broom and
compressed air of all loose materials before applying the prime coat.
1.5 The prime coat will be sprayed and shall be allowed to cure at least 24
hours before the premix can be laid. No traffic is allowed to travel on
the sprayed surface. The rate for spreading shall be 0.55 to 1.0 litre/m 2
2.0 Preparation of Binder Course (BC) – (AC28)
3.0 The ACBC will be laid in one layer of 60 mm compacted thickness as indicated in
relevant drawings.
All laying, rolling and finishing work will be carried out in accordance with the
relevant specification and laying shall commence along the lower side of the
carriage way and progress to the higher side.
4.0 The minimum temperature at the commencement or compaction rolling will be
110 °c and the temperature shall be checked at regular intervals before paving
restart after each interruption of paving operation
The paver shall be operated continuously and the supply of bituminous mix shall
be regulated so as to enable continuous paving.
5.0 Transverse joints in a paving lane shall be kept t a practical minimum and
intermittent stopping and restarting of the paver shall be avoided as far as is
practicable.
The vertical face of transverse joint shall be made by using a premix cutter
6.0 The rolling patterns for the ABCD shall be two static passes, two vibrating passes,
ten passes for tyre roller and two final static passes.
7.0 Joint dipping shall be carried out to check for compliance with the specific
requirement.
8.0 ACBC shall not be opened to traffic until compaction has been completed and
the material has cooled down.
