In the last 50 years, we have witnessed rapid developments in
technology. Today there are jobs and devices that 10 years ago we
could not even imagine, and they are currently participating in the
creation of our everyday life. It's almost unbelievable how much
technology has changed our lives – and many are rightly questioned
whether we live better or weaker now than before mass
technology and the Internet.
The two split sides are debating whether technology is good or bad –
and it's important to know that neither side is entirely right.
NamelytechnologyIt has brought us a lot of good, but unfortunately it
has also created a lot of bad things in our lives. Most of us today are
willing to pay tribute (with health and emotion) so that we can enjoy the
benefits of technology.
Below we will list 14 positive and negative effects that technology
leaves on our lives. Of course, most readers of this portal will agree
that technology has moved the world forward and enabled us to do
fantastic things. But the same majority are aware that technology has
some negative consequences on life. Without further ado, here's what
the use of computers, smartphones and the Internet brings us
positive and negative:
Dependence on technology
Although technology addiction is not talked about much in the media,
experts warn that this addiction could become one of the main health
problems of the future. Many of us, and perhaps even you, are addicted
to technology – whether we want to admit it or not. When you just
remember how many hours a day you spend in front of small and big
screens and how hard it is for you to leave your phone for a day – things
are more than clear.
Technology has brought us a lot of good in life, but we have
become too dependent on the capabilities of technology. It appeared
quickly, spread en masse among people – and people were simply
unprepared and uneducated to embrace technology into their lives. If
you ask experts, most of us have embraced technology too strongly –
which will cause us big problems in the future. Hospital wards are
already springing up in the world that have one task – to treat tech
addicts. How big this problem will become we will understand only the
moment we become aware of how much our life is tied to technology.
Ability to communicate with people around the
world
When we connect technological solutions to the Internet, we get almost
the perfect channel for communication. Never before in history have you
been able to communicate with a person on the other side of the world
in two mouse clicks for free. To make matters even better, not only can
you communicate by texting and voice chatting – but you can literally
see the other person in real time via video communication.
The possibility of simple, fast and accessible communication has opened
many doors for people in private and business life. In particular, we will
emphasize the private life in which people can now maintain long-
distance relationships both with their love partners, as well as with all
relatives and friends who they want to contact at a given moment. Of
course, moving communication to the Internet has somewhat alienated
people in the real world – so now we talk less and less live over coffee
and beer (which is certainly not good).
Treatment of hitherto incurable diseases
The development of technology has caused unprecedented advances in
medicine. Today, we have amazing technologically advanced devices
available that can treat until recently incurable diseases. Of course,
health professionals and professionals play a major role in the process of
dealing with the disease, but the vast majority of this would not be
possible with the extreme development of technology. Not only has
technology become an active helper in solving health problems, but it is
increasingly replacing man in performing complicated health
tasks.
When we hear stories about new devices in the health sector – some
things still seem amazing to us, to be achievable. For example, today in
the world there are devices that perform extremely complex operations,
and they can be operated by doctors on the other side of the world.
Further development of such devices will create opportunities for the
largest experts regardless of their location – to perform complex
operations around the world. But that's only a fraction of the
opportunities technology has brought to the healthcare sector. If we
could single out one area where technology has left the biggest mark – it
would definitely be a health system.
Eye problems
Although technology on the one hand creates incredible opportunities to
improve the health picture of the entire world's population, on the other
hand it also harms human health. Here we would like to point out that
technology is not itself to blame for people's health problems, but the
responsibility lies with the users of the technology themselves. This is
where the rapid mass expansion of technological devices comes to the
fore again, without sufficient time to adapt to this rapid development.
For example, in Croatia, we are still debating whether computer science
should be a compulsory subject in school. On the other hand, we have
children who know how to use smartphones and computers from
an early age (for example, 3 years old). Thus, computer science
should not only be a compulsory subject in school, but the entire school
system should adapt to the technologically advanced period in which we
live. There is too little knowledge and education focused on this – which
positive and negative things bring us mass use of technology.
If we go back to the individual, things are more than clear – we stare at
small and large screens all day long and this leaves an indelible mark on
our eyes. People were used to seeing the world from a distance, and
today we spend half the day staring at a screen that is only 20-30
centimeters away from our eyes. The eyes cannot fully adapt to this,
so the problem of visual impairment arises. Although today we have
screens that do not radiate dangerous light and glasses that do not allow
dangerous light to reach our eyes – the fact is that vision problems are
becoming more pronounced. This trend is likely to continue in the future
– as children from an increasingly young age begin to stare at the
screen.
Problems with the spine and posture
Probably never again in history has the importance of movement and
exercise been expressed in the media – towards the past few years.
Despite this, people are moving less and more and more neglecting their
health. Movement is the essence of bodily functioning and therefore we
must practice it daily to a sufficient extent. A large number of people
and children are "nailed" to their screens, both smartphones and
computers, and rarely think that it would be wise to walk or at least
stretch every 30 minutes. Unfortunately, this leaves a big mark on our
locomotor system, but also on all other body elements.
Problems with the spine are becoming more pronounced nowadays, and
with excessive sitting, the problem of obesity arises. Then, obesity
binds many other health problems to itself (especially the heart suffers)
and thus we enter into a vicious circle – which is not at all in favor of our
health. If we want to preserve our health, we should use the benefits of
technology wiser. For example, we should get up from the computer
every half hour, take a walk, stretch our arms, legs and eyes – thus
allowing the body to take a break from technology. Although many
will blame technology for all of the above problems, the fact is that the
main culprit is actually – the user of the technology. We determine for
ourselves how we use technology and it is not our fault in health
problems.
Incredible education opportunities
A large number of people don't really realize how much data is in the
online world. Technology has given us access to all this data – creating
an amazing learning platform. You can "hide in a mouse hole" standard
school system, if we compare the quality of the content in school desks
with the content on the Internet. Of course, the task of the school
system is to transfer knowledge to students, but also to educate new
generations. On the other hand, a huge amount of information on the
Internet confuses potential students considerably – because it is difficult
to distinguish quality content from bad content. Of course, it is difficult
to learn independently – that is, without someone to guide you through
the whole process.
Although the internet has problems in the field of transferring knowledge
to students, things are very clear – the internet is an amazing
learning platform. Online, you can listen to the world's best lecturers
from the best faculties and scientific organizations – in any field at any
time. Through the Internet, you can learn how to play the guitar,
process wood, fold your own electric car, make a spacecraft, etc. The
possibilities of learning online are practically limitless and it is
somewhat regrettable that people use the Internet to a very small
extent to learn new skills. The best thing about the Internet is that you
can choose how to learn yourself, so you can learn – reading, listening,
watching videos or actively participating in solving specific problems
through interactive applications. The Internet offers us knowledge on a
platter – let's use it.
Constant destruction of the flow of thought
Software solution manufacturers deliberately install mechanisms that are
tasked with destroying our train of thought. Although it may sound
harsh, the fact is that by constantly peeking at the smartphone screen –
we are actually impairing the quality of what we are doing at a given
moment. Constant notifications (notifications) that occur on our
smartphone sound or image are responsible for the destruction of the
flow of thought. When our brain hears that a new message has arrived
on our phone, it becomes curious – and makes us pick up the phone in
our hands and check who is writing to us. Of course, we have
notifications in almost every app today – so these same notifications
come to us all day in everyday tasks.
If we say that technology undermines our work – we would be wrong.
Again, the blame should be placed on the user himself, who has the
opportunity to turn off notifications – but almost never does. If we
turned off notifications (or the entire device) every day, we would create
an opportunity for ourselves to carry out the tasks we planned
unhindered. But most of us have become accustomed to coexisting with
notifications – so we leave electronic devices constantly distracting us.
So, with the help of technology, we are constantly destroying our
thoughts – which is by no means good.
