Next Steps

The next steps depend on whether your child has one or more offers, and if your family is planning to

this school in fall 2024, there is nothing else you need to do.
If your child has received more than one offer, you will need to choose between them and
accept one offer by Friday, April 5, 2024. Accept your offer one of the following ways:
Online with your Myschools.nyc account or
Through your current school counselor
Find out if the school(s) in this offer letter will be holding virtual or in-person open houses and/or
orientations by checking their website(s) or contacting the school directly.
If your child will not be attending a NYC public school for fall 2024, you need to contact your
child’s current school counselor to opt out.
Please note that if your child has permanently moved out of New York City or does not meet
8 th grade promotion requirements, high school offers are no longer valid.

Schools use waitlists to fill any open seats after offers are made. Please read the last page of this letter
to see where your child is automatically waitlisted. If you would like to remain on a waitlist, there is
nothing else you need to do. If you would like to add your child to additional waitlists,

SCREENED PROGRAMS

Screened without Assessment

All applicants are divided into five screened admissions groups based on their grades ––learn more
at schools.nyc.gov/ScreenedHS.

The Group in the table is your child’s admissions group for these programs; applicants have the
same group for all Screened without Assessment programs.

The Admissions Position is where your child falls compared to all other applicants based on their
group and random number. For example, if a child's position is 744, there are 743 applicants that
are either in a higher group or are in their same group with stronger random numbers. Learn about
random numbers at schools.nyc.gov/RandomNumbers.

Screened with Assessment

For some screened programs, applicants complete an admissions assessment that is created and
scored by each school. Applicants’ assessment scores and group are then combined with a
weighted average to produce a final score on a scale of 0-100––learn more at
schools.nyc.gov/AssessmentHS.

The Score shown in the table is your child's weighted average.

The Admissions Position is where your child falls compared to all other applicants' scores. For
example, if a child’s position is 552, there are 551 applicants with a higher score.

AUDITION PROGRAMS

These programs evaluate auditions on a 0-100 scale.

The Score shown in the table is your child’s audition score. Each school has its own evaluation
process, so the same audition may have different scores.

The Admissions Position shown is how your child scored compared to other applicants.

Applicants to LaGuardia High School do not have an admissions position.

PLEASE NOTE

The Admissions Position does not consider a student’s General Education (GE) or Students with
Disabilities (SWD) status, or admissions priorities. This position only shows the number of students
with a higher position overall.

Testing Specialized High Schools are not part of the high school application and do not appear on
this table.

If you did not receive an offer to one of these programs in the table, it is because either

You received an offer to a program you listed higher on your application, or

All seats in your seat group (GE / SWD) were filled by students in a higher position, or a higher
priority group.
