SELECTING THE CORRECT ABSTRACT CATEGORY

traditional topics, click here for guidelines that may help.

ACMCIP SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS

ACMCIP Scientific Sessions represent the interests of the American Committee of Molecular,
Cellular and Immunoparasitology, a subgroup of ASTMH. This Burroughs Wellcome Fund-
supported effort honors abstracts that show excellence in their area. These sessions feature
cross-parasite approaches to Molecular, Cellular and Immunoparasitology. These abstracts are
joined by award-winning presentations from the Woods Hole Immunoparasitology, Molecular
Parasitology, Midwest Neglected Infectious Diseases Meeting and, in alternating years, the
Kinetoplastid Molecular Cell Biology Meetings. All abstract submissions indicating a preference
for oral presentation for the categories indicated below will be considered for inclusion in
ACMCIP Scientific Sessions. Abstracts not selected for ACMCIP sessions will then be considered

The ASTMH is an international society committed to equity and global impact through the treatment and prevention of tropical infectious diseases.
Our diverse membership comes from more than 115 countries and engages with an enormous array of infectious diseases, cultures, ethnicities, and
countries. We come from academia, research institutes, implementation programs, industry, multilateral organizations, foundations, and governments,
gathering annually to exchange data, share learning, and honor contributions from the field and the lab.

As a Society, we are committed to the open exchange of ideas, freedom of thought and expression, and productive scientific debate that are central to
ASTMH Inclusion/ our mission. These require an open and diverse environment that is built on dignity and mutual respect for all members, participants, and staff, free of
Respect Statement discrimination based on personal attributes including but not limited to ethnicity, color, national origin, age, religion, socioeconomic status, disability,
sexual orientation, gender, and gender identity or expression. We affirm the key principles of inclusion, diversity, and respect for all people. In a world of
rich diversity, the advancement of science depends on the intellectual breadth and depth of a diverse ASTMH, one that informs and enriches the shape and
content of scientific discourse. These principles guide the actions of ASTMH’s leaders, members, and staff in advancing the goals of the Society.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

SELECTION CRITERIA AND PRESENTATION FORMAT

 Abstracts
are evaluated based on the scientific strength of the research, timeliness of the
findings and whether the results significantly impact current research or clinical approaches,
and how the abstract fits into a broader thematic focus of the Annual Meeting.
 For
most abstract categories, the Scientific Program Committee develops session themes after
all submissions have been received and reviewed.
 Acceptance
rates for oral abstracts vary by category and by meeting year. The acceptance rate
for the last five Annual Meetings averaged 33%, and ranged from 29% in 2023 to 35% in 2021.
Most abstracts not selected for oral presentation will be assigned as poster presentations.

 A
small number of abstracts selected for poster presentation by the Malaria Subcommittee will
be featured as brief oral “Lightning Talks” during a designated timeframe determined by the
Scientific Program Committee.
 Abstract
presenters selected for oral presentation for a Scientific Session (oral abstract session)
who are unable to attend the Annual Meeting in person will have the option to submit a pre-
recorded presentation. Please note: The 2024 Annual Meeting will not include an option for
ePoster presentations.
 NEW
THIS YEAR: Abstracts with a Focus on Educational Content: Educational content is
increasingly relevant to all disciplines within ASTMH, as well as to those at all career stages. If
the topic of your abstract is focused on educational content (e.g., instructive/didactic content)
rather than scientific research, please check the box in the abstract submission site for
Educational Content.

In order to optimize the quality of your abstract and likelihood of acceptance:

Adhere to all recommendations in the Call for Abstracts

Include adequate background information such as hypothesis and rationale

Include a brief description of methods

Focus on preliminary findings and results achieved to-date

Select the correct abstract submission category

LATE-BREAKER ABSTRACTS AND THE ADVANTAGES

OF EARLY SUBMISSION
Late-Breaker Abstracts will be due in late July.

The Late-Breaker Abstract submission fee is $80 US.

Timeliness of the data will be a major factor in the evaluation process.

 Due
to the high volume of submissions, the acceptance rate for oral presentations is
approximately 5%.
 Due
to publishing deadlines, Late-Breaker session agendas and abstracts do not appear
in the Program Book.
 Late-Breaker
Abstract submission should not be used as a backup to the April submission
deadline.

When considerable research data is anticipated for collection between April and the Annual Meeting,
submitters are advised to submit their abstracts for the April 17 (i.e., non-Late-Breaker) deadline,
providing information on the importance of the study, preliminary findings, anticipated completion
date and anticipated impact. If the abstract involves work in progress, please ensure that sufficient
data will be ready to present by the time of the ASTMH meeting.

YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD

APPLICATION DEADLINE: APRIL 24, 2024
 This
award recognizes the work of outstanding young investigators and encourages young
scientists to pursue careers in various aspects of tropical disease research. Winners receive a
cash award.
